Seeing an engine hanging in mid air is always nerve wrecking. Espeically when it's over a Ferrari! Nice job getting her in there. That's a tight squeeze for sure!

The task of inserting a Ferrari 308 engine into the said car is not trivial - but in your case was completed without incident by using highly experienced technicians that inherently understand how to complete such a tasks and are able to work in a 'synchronised manner'. I too have used a similar aproach when confronted with a moderately complex task - to which 'we' completed the task almost effortlessly and without incident. In cases where I've had little choice but to use kind assistants with little mechanical knowledge, the degree of difficulty in completing moderately complex tasks increases signficantly - which usually necessitates an exhausting amount of communication and numerous 'back-and-forth checks' in order to avoid calamities. They can also be very stressful on the said relationships. Well done and look forward to the next episode of the Ferrari 308 restoration.

that's where the real fun begins! Getting it running is one thing, getting it running right is another. You gotta have the knowledge to get 4 webers set right.....I saw a guy tuning a miura carbs, by ear...."number 3 is running lean" what? how can you tell"???? Supposedly, if you have the right meter that fits over a carb while you're tuning it, you can get it close.

Hey Lou. Don't say, "We're experts." Instead, say, "I'm a professional." This is a line from Ferris Bueller when they took the 1961 Ferrari 250GT California to the garage structure in Downtown Chicago. Cheers!:)

Great job just before summer time! It's great that you had help, I put mine in all alone on a dirty driveway and it was less fun. Videos like yours is how us shade tree mechanics stay alive! Please keep it up!

thanks. I will do my best to keep it up.

Good job Lou, nice to see the engine going back in, that is very big visual progress. Now you can start working on the upgrades you talked about for the engine as you keep assembling it. Nice to see you have a few friends able to give you a hand. Also hope the fender bender wasn't too big of a hassle. keep up the good work, and look forward to more Project 308

How I took mine out on my own was one thing. ( I was a younger man though..) As I see now its not going in the same way without some very good help. those two spacers are for the rear. the fronts are cone like and are 13/16" tall. i can send you a pic with some measurements if you dont already have them.
@LouTrottier7 күн бұрын
there seems to be two variations of the spacers. another comment suggests to 20mm spacers in front.

Shes coming along, your getting there. Can't wait to hear her first start. Also, don't, and I mean don't ever put an overhead shot in where you did again with the engine like that. I thought for sure the only reason I was seeing that shot was you were going to cut to a image of the engine in the wrong place on the car. Scared the crap out of me. But other than that, keep it coming.

Hi Lou 20 mm tube metal spacer at the front of the engine & none at the rear just a flat washer on all mounts between cross member.. Hope this helps Mark Somerset England

Woohoo, the lump is back in the hole! I bought a set used spacers from GT Car Parts which may be an easier option than making?

11:21 now you know why all modern ones go in from underneath! I still say there's NO reason they can't be streamlined with 1 or 2 major electrical connectors instead of 7804.

@@LouTrottier You prob have realized as a mech that engineers never think about repairs or working on the vehicles after they're produced.
@SkylarkCamperAdventures7 күн бұрын
That engine was too pretty to put back in but if needs must 👍
@LouTrottier6 күн бұрын
Right!!!
@stevewilliams63488 күн бұрын
I used very short studs in the rear mounts to help locate the mounts in the cross member for the initial seating of the engine. Then remove them and install the factory bolts once the engine is correctly positioned.

thanks

Hey Lou....the engine mounts sag with age and tend to end up interfering with the gear shift linkage from the gearbox. Wonder if the old mounts had been assisted by the addition of more spacers as a quick and dirty fix and so may not all be necessary with the new mounts ??....just sayin
@LouTrottier6 күн бұрын
It may come to that.
@andynicoll85667 күн бұрын
You likely know this channel but it came up in my side feed, Normal Guy Supercar, shows a 308 in the thumbnail. Who knows maybe he can show you those pesky bolts/spacers. OK... on the edit, the vid is 2 months old and it was a repair prior to sale so it's probably gone... swing and a miss lol. I tried.
@LouTrottier6 күн бұрын
Thanks mate.

So in Canada you measure in the up direction in inches and the down direction in centimetres? Here in Australia we use millimeters in both directions 😂
@LouTrottier7 күн бұрын
LOL.. In Canada pretty much everything comes from the US. Tape measures are unfortunately predominantly in inches so searching for the metric readings is always a task, so we as Canadians just learn to suck it up and operate in both metric and imperial.

What’s the lift name that the 308 is sitting on?

its a mid-rise scissor lift from a company called Direct lift
