We’ve got Mat in the all-new Hyundai IONIQ 5 N, and it’s about to go head-to-head against a Lamborghini Aventador SV!
So let’s see how these two speedsters compare. Starting with the Hyundai, it’s powered by two electric motors that can produce 650hp and 770Nm of torque. This power is sent to all four wheels, and naturally being an EV, it’s pretty heavy, tipping the scales at 2,235kg. However, considering the amount of power, it’s relatively cheap, costing just £65,000.
Then alongside it, we have the mighty Lambo. It’s powered by a 6.5-litre naturally-aspirated V12, and this can produce 750hp and 690Nm. Power is sent to all four wheels via a 7-speed automatic gearbox, and it’s a whole lot lighter than the IONIQ, weighing in at 1,525kg. It’s a whole lot more expensive though, costing from £238,000!
The Lambo has more power, so will it be a walkover? Or will electric power prevail against this supercar? There’s only one way to find out… LET’S RACE!

They are better, just accept it. An EV in the same price range as this Lambo, like the Sapphire will crush it in a drag race AND have more comfortable seats, better infotainment and better air conditioning etc. It isn't about saving the environment for me (which EVs don't) Its about speed and power for the money, and EVs crush gas cars on that front, all there is to it. If they cut the price on a BMW M3 in half I'll buy it, until then I'll take an EV. They all WAY overcharge for gas cars above 500 HP.

Misha Charoudin tested the Hyundai ioniq 5 N on the Nurburgring. And the fake gear shifting actually affects the performance of the car on track. Additionally the Hyundai is one of the very few that can go rave on the track twice without having to charge it again.

So i drive on the Nürburgring here in Germany twice a Month during Touristenfahrten (which is each Weekend) and a while ago there were 3 Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ns with me on the Track, and i've see a lot of EVs on the Nürburgring the past Years, but the Ioniq 5N was definitely the most track-capable. I never driven one, but i'm impressed how good they do on the Nürburgring. And before the Tesla Boys jump in, lots of Teslas on the Nürburgring, including Plaids, but all of them aren't remotely as good at difficult Spots and Corners as the Ioniq 5N is Prost & Cheers from Berchtesgaden in the Bavarian Alps

So the scenario where it would make the most sense didn't happen. The car would still be slower than the Lambo, but in tests run by others they averaged 0.2 seconds faster with boost. It's a bit naughty from Matt.

$65,000 for 650 hp is one hell of a conversion rate, not many vehicles can compete with that. I love that even “cheaper” vehicles are getting fast, just not a fan of the weight of electric vehicles and the braking just never really feels comfortable. If they can figure out the brakes and weight issues, I’d be much more into EV’s but right now I just see these super fast ones as outside of my comfort zone to drive.

The braking distance is determined by the traction coefficient of the tires, so regen braking should logically make no difference whatsoever.

yeah regen braking works by capturing the otherwise lost energy of the wheels spinning the motor under momentum, creating resistance which slows down the car, but it functions completely independently of the brakes, which need to be able to handle a lot more stopping power that would destroy the motor.

It depends. Regen braking is done by the motor, and can change brake pressure between 100 and 1000 times a second (depending on implementation), while some of the better ABS systems can do it just 15 times a second. That means if you can rely on regen for regulating brake pressure, you don't get the micro-slides of ABS. It's not enough to save the Ioniq, it simply has too much weight and not enough tire surface area.
