I LOVE that you use torque wrenches! Nobody else does.

A very well explained tutorial Nato, no paragraphs out of the electrical code of practice book with sub clauses. They’re for professionals to study then omit or translate into two maybe three words for DIYers. Just the right amount of information.

Ferrules are a great way to reduce the chance of having strands of wire go "astray" during the installation - especially in tight and difficult to access areas. Any connection, where the wire is crimped and not just drilled by a screw should have a ferrule attached. In the latter case, the thin wall of the ferrule could make a mess of things when tightened down... Victron - at times - does include recommendations in their documentation, that just is not 100% clear. Your video shows very nicely, that common sense is the correct approach. Thank you!

Thank you again for a very clear video. Likewise, you introduced me to ferrules and I've been using them diligently ever since. Still plan to get a square crimper for ferrules for those fat MPPT cable connections

More to say about ferrules from personal experience. If the terminal is such type where a bolt directly screws into wire - using a wire without ferrule a bolt will definitely cut some strains and you end up having a bad contact to a bolt itself. You now have the wire with fewer strains, cutted strains can potentially fall out the terminal and touch cutted strains from the nearest terminal. And when you have to remove and reattach that wire for some rework or inspection - you'll want to strip it again where its not broken. Once used a ferrule and I'm never to lazy to not use it at all connections. And my FLIR thermal camera tells me I'm doing it right.

How many times can you reuse a ferrule? As in take out of the connector block and put back in?
@EXPLORISTlifeАй бұрын
It's a lot.

If I’m taking a lead, a grnd, and a neutral to the back of a male plug can I use this. I had for shaped connectors but was told those were no good and to cut them off.

Thanks for the video! Currently designing a battery back up system so we don't go without again (lost power for a week during Helene) Planning for a 3000W inverter on a 24v system. Do I need to spend the money on a low frequency inverter to run my fridge/freezer? they are around 3 times the price, but I am struggling to find a video explaining if they are necessary or not.
@EXPLORISTlifeАй бұрын
Perhaps you’d fine the inverters we have in our store at shop.explorist.life useful. 🧐🫣. They will, without a shadow of a doubt, run your refrigerator.

How do Ferrules behave if you put a wire lug over them ?

I think you'll find our video covering wire lug crimping helpful: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mH-WdHp5htF4kNE

If you didn’t have any ferrules, couldn’t you just solder up the tip of the wire alone with out a ferrule? It would be a solid tip.
@EXPLORISTlifeАй бұрын
Why would you not have any ferrules? They come in all of our wiring kits. You'd get ferrules at the same time you get lugs/wire/fuses/etc. 🤨😅 In all seriousness, though: Aside from soldering taking longer than ferrules and soldering taking a bit more skill than ferrules; soldering actually makes a WORSE connection due to thermal stress where the wires go from stranded to soldered.

@I was just wondering for people that don’t have the extra bucks for Ferrules and it’s took. 🤷♂️
@EXPLORISTlifeАй бұрын
And when that weak point created by soldering breaks and melts the charge controller termina; how expensive would it be to replace? Let's be clear here that ferrules are less than $0.10 each and the tool is like $20. I'm not asking y'all to spend $1000's of dollar on specialty tools. Spend the $20 now so you have a safe and reliable system.
