Thank you for that! Hmmm…I guess I should try foliar feeding. Your figs certainly look super healthy!

Your video is excellent, how long can I keep the plants in those 5 gallon pots and how often to prune?
@backyardfigs2 ай бұрын
These buckets are great to start young plants, and usually ready for up potting after one or two seasons. But, you can keep your trees in them for much longer if their size is kept smaller. In that case it would be beneficial to root prune every season.

I do the same thing. I make comfrey for fertilizer. Do compost and worm compost teas. I also make fish fertilizeand use lactobacillus and even Bokashi in my brews. And use liquid kelp on on all my seeding and cuttings. I use diluted brew almost every time I water. And not just for my fig trees but my vegetable garden. Right now I’m preparing my garden for next season. I use a layer of last year shredded leaves, a layer of compost and top that with my compost brew. I cover everything with landscape material. In the spring I do another soil drench with Jadam brew wait 3 to 4 weeks and plant. The only thing I have to buy is the kelp.

We do have similar program, but yours is superior. I am planning to add JMS in my arsenal.

I see you have been bitten by the fig collection bug! 😂. I’m down sizing as I figure out my favorite verities as well as those that produce well. I’m also in Michigan. North of Detroit. Never heard of the VeriSil product before. I also fertilize organically.

"Fig Migration" is a great term.

Thank you for the informative video. What type of black ground sheeting are you using, and what is it's purpose? I've seen this in other videos, but no explanation as to why it is being used. Thanks

Hi, I am using X Home 5oz 4ft x 150ft Weed Barrier, Heavy-Duty Garden Weed Barrier. Main purpose is to make working around plants easier, eliminating grass and weeds. Also adds more heat to the area, if you live in colder climate. Less insects, too.

@@backyardfigs Thanks for the reply. I would use this for the weeds and bugs, but I live in SoCal in an area where it consistently gets above 100 degrees during the Summer months, so I have plenty of heat here in Zone 10a. I wonder if it comes in white which would be more reflective of the sun/heat?

@@neurocognitive Yes, they do come in white for that purpose, not in my brand. I found Bootstrap Farmer Heavy Duty Landscape Fabric - White 5 Ounce 4' x 250' on Amazon.
