It's hard to imagine a better piece of music to portray terminal insanity. The track plays in two pivotal scenes - Shion laughing in madness as she watches Rika commit suicide to escape her torture and Keichii seeing Rena as she takes the school hostage, describing the look in her eyes as alien, beyond consolation of the human social world. Both scenes culminations of two characters slowly drifting deeper and deeper beyond sanity. When Festivals plays, we are stricken at seeing just how far beyond the point of no return they have gotten and in fact barely resemble their former selves. Such good shit.

That's interesting, although I do remember the song being played multiple times through the game, for me the moment it struck me the most was when Miyoko returned to the orphanage. The descriptions are messed up, the audio makes no sense (thanks to the statics), and you get to live from the "vilain"'s perspective the birth of the original madness, the madness that doomed the village on hundreds of timelines. The fact that you did not mention it shows you didn't see things that I saw, or most likely you saw things I didn't see. That's what makes this game so great, we could discuss it over and over again and discover something everytime. Damn, now I have to play it again!

It took a couple of listens, but there's a very, very powerful component in this track that is so hidden yet it's in plain sight. The second overlay of static that starts at 3:50 and envelops the soundtrack adds a very harrowing atmosphere to the song, giving it a sense of deep-rooted dread. That static though? That's not static. That's *screaming.* Crushed, distorted screaming. Jesus christ.

@@upliftdaily7510 Well I doubt anyone can prove that, but slowing it down it certainly sounds more like "Ah" than the typical flat "Kch" sound you always hear. Especially the change in tone at 4:16. I guess static by nature is inconsistent, so it could really be anything. It really does sound like a mix between harsh static and children wailing.

i wouldn't be opposed to saying it's a feedback loop run through distortion and a mixer or something. i've done that often enough and managed to get sounds like that. filters are key to achieving vowel like resonances from noise that said, yeah, it definitely gives the sensation of screaming and carries such a power because of that in my opinion, the distorted percussion on top of that as well
