FFXIV Lore- Palace of the Dead & The Necromancer

The final fantasy crossover explains up to floor 100, but beyond that is still a mystery. Floor 151+ you appear to be so deep down that you’re starting to enter the realm of the Aetherial Sea. At least that’s what I believe is to explain the bizarre appearance of those floors. We see the same kind of distortion on the bottom floors of Orthos, but that makes sense for the Allagans. The bottom floors of Palace of the Dead on the other hand is still shrouded in mystery. There are what appears to be ruins scattered in the distortion of the bottom floors, and on floor 200 you can see fallen structures at the bottom. The architecture almost seem to resemble structures of the Ancients.. I wonder if PotD was a hint to them, long before the idea of the Ancients were fully fleshed out by the developers.

Thanks for this. Palace of the Dead is one of the many things in ARR that I would unlock and get the opening story to, only to wait several weeks for friends to become free to do it with me so that by the time I finally did it, I forgot the story for WHY I was doing it.

I've seen people entering the Palace beyond floors 100 and at the bottom most floor... is a crystal pumpkin and a peaceful park with a bench. Maybe the one who created the palace created that room first. Needless to say, it's a relief for those who survive the warped abominations for Floors 100-199.

The topic ive been waiting for! Deep Dungeon Lore! Cant wait for HoH and the future Deep Dungeon we are getting. HoH story was lackluster unlike PotD, mayhaps there is more information we dont know?

Death is actually a lovely chap in a suit, with glasses and a cup of coffee. an accountant type of guy that just does his job for eternity. He is very talkative and would really wish people would understand that it's nothing personal. it's just his job.

you are both wrong, death has golden eyes and his hair is burgundy with a white streak. He wears a stylish black military coat, adorned with gold on the chest and white fur along the trimmings, and white gloves. He is also constantly on a mood.

I was one of the many adventures that investigated the place and knew Edda personally, as I ran into her band many times and attended her so called wedding. In that forsaken palace I found her spirit again and in the thrall of that vile necromancer and freed her from his influence. Professor while I can't prove it and at the time I dismissed it as her mad ravings...she mentioned a voice in diary. A voice that brought her onto the path of necromancy. What if that voice was him? I can't help but wonder.

Not gonna lie, I'm rather bummed to find out PotD was just a crossover with Tactics Ogre instead of its own thing withing FFXIV. I remember getting down to the bottom finally and checking everything out as we went along, and having all these thoughts about how mysterious it was and maybe the devs finally made something original and made it with the intention of being mysterious. I always had a feeling it was a place that lay "somewhere between," but I also assumed that without the full explanation, it was MEANT to be mysterious. Sad to find out that, once again, Squeenix can't seem to come up with anything TRULY original apart from MSQ and MSQ bosses and just ripped from another game. Still, I loved running PotD when it was new to me :D
