(Endwalker spoilers) I wonder if the Power of Transcendent Words is the sundered form of the same power that a certain blue entelechy has. She uses it to communicate in much the same way.

I mean, there's a scene during EW where they're discussing that Dynamis is the reason people with the echo can effectively speak any language (as long as it's to a sentient being), they're feeling the Dynamis fluctuations and interpreting those to understand what the person means. I was surprised to not see and Endwalker spoiler warning, because you learn so much about how the Echo works from Meteion and the scenes in Elpis.

@@ayanhart Doesn't really add up though, the Echo is a remnant of a power we had when we were whole. We couldn't use Dynamis when we were whole.

The Echo is also the Blessing of Light. Now with a *certain someone gone*, there wont' be any more Echo users and the question is up for debate if we're even _protected_ by the Echo anymore. That being said, we've gorged on so much Aether that we're probably unkillable by now anyway.

7:20 - I was curious if you were going to mention it, but doesn't seem that way... but in 1.0 the Echo was really odd. It wasn't just that we relived someone's memories or feelings, but rather for that memory we were ACTUALLY THERE. People in the memory would actually acknowledge or even interact with the WoL while the WoL was experiencing the memory, though the implication is that this somehow still didn't actually affect future events, and that it wasn't actual time traveling or anything like that. The three intros in 1.0 were technically not in the present time (though it was on purpose that this wasn't obvious, as the intent was for Minfillia to reveal to us later that we had the Echo and we had unknowingly been experiencing past events as if they were current. Ultimately I think this was changed to a much more obvious Echo for 2.0 as the fact that we were active particpants in Echoes was probably confusing a lot of people as to when scenes were actually taking place... but it would still be interesting if this was referenced or perhaps if the WoL's new Echo starting manifesting a bit of this in future expansions. The closest we got to an 1.0 Echo experience was probably when we went inside Cid's mind during the event of Bozja and had active combat with his father and Varis.

Yeah we can't really use much of the 1.0 lore after a lot of it was either changed or written out of the lore entirely. So I keep the 1.0 lore as more like, fun facts, than concrete data anymore.

It's sort of intimated as much in game, Fordola's Echo-based combat foresight is sort of described as seeing attacks coming.

Also the reason we get to retry trials with an echo bonus. The failure never actually happened, it was a vision of a bad future that we now know to avoid.

I... am gonna need a source for that "Transcendent Worlds" ability. I can't recall anything that even partially suggested the ability to willingly hop back and forth between worlds with ease. Or is this an explanation given for that relic we grabbed at the foot of Syrcus Tower to go back to the first? Which I admittedly failed to find an answer to thus far.

Another delightful lesson, if I do say so myself! Your lectures are always both rousing and impressively researched, especially given the taboo of discussing the nature of the echo and what it's power means, given the often calamitous events that are to follow after it manifests in the people en masse. If I may impose upon a vaunted scholar such as yourself, I should like to submit unto you a suggestion for a future lecture? I have been ever impressed by the lifelike behavior and craftsmanship that goes into the construction of Mammets, which both find their way into society as laborers, pets, and even fashion statements! I've often wondered where the art of modern mammeteering got it's start, how mammets function, and how we've gotten to the point where Mammets can so seamlessly imitate such lifelike things as animals and effigies of individuals of great import?

In 1.0, Echo awakening showed you the final days of Amaurot. In 2.0 and forward, you see yourself slay Lahabrea. So if you played during 1.0, congratulations, you are the true reborn Azem.

Mikoto's Echo is the most peculiar, because given what we know now in Endwalker (spoiler explanation below) that instead of peering into the past but the future instead, it doesn't make sense. . . . . . . ... Because one of the Echo's abilities is basically an ancient's old ability to interact with the memory aether imprinted in the surroundings by piecing together the "ripples" scattered in the ambient aether and in turn peer through "history". The other is also tapping with someone else's memory aether as they are recalling. How something that has yet to exist be readable is still beyond reason.

That's assuming that Aether ripples are bound by time. It's possible that Aether ripples go both ways in the flow of time so that things that happen in the future can flow back to previous times. However, since FF time seems to follow the "infinite worlds" theory to resolve time paradoxes, that would imply that you'd have many different, possibly conflicting, ripples going back to a particular point in time which seems like a problem. It does help to explain why that power is so rare, but that wouldn't show why Mikoto's power is always 100% accurate unless we posit that it works like Schrodinger's cat and the fact that she "sees" a particular future is what locks it in.

Maybe Mikotos ability is not to peer into the future, but maybe to percieve the flow and presence of all aether at once. And, since everything is aether, knowing where it is and where it flows could potentially predict the future of where it is going to be, giving a glimpse into the future that manifests as a vision

Well it depends how you assume time works, everything is built of aether so the future could simply be strands of potential world paths/states in the aether like the questing roots of a tree (sort of like quantum collapse)

Doubt it, they've pretty much explained exactly how everything works during EW, there's not much more to know. SPOILERS below btw. Transcendent Word is simply us using Dynamis/Akasa, just like Meteion does to speak to us at first. Transcendent Time is an ability which comes from the Ancients - presumably Hydaelyn's blessing grants those with it the ability to harness the power, though in an unrefined way. The Ancients could use the ability at will and with intention, whereas for those with Hydaelyn's blessing it's just luck whether you even get a vision, nevermind it being relevant. Transcendent Worlds is a bit weirder, but it likely is just Hydaelyn's influence holding those with Her blessing together All the other abilities are basically just variations on those; Krile's ability to follow Aether is just a weaker version of the ability Hythlodaeus and Hades have to see Aether, and Mikoto's foresight is just feeling how the Aether and/or Dynamis is changing and interpreting that to 'see' the future.

I think you're confused on the Endwalker thingy, it is stated on the wiki that whoever awakens the echo also gets Hydaelyn blessing of light, since she knew whoever awaken it could be the saviour of the world, she just didn't know who until she met you. Even Zenos has it since he said he has had visions of the final days since childhood, and then even more with the resonance. Kind of the undead prophecy on Dark Souls, anyone would have been the hero, it just so happens to be you xD

Where did the wiki get that information though? That doesn't really line up for me, since we have things like Nabriales saying he could get into the Rising Stones because we lost our blessing, even though Echo-bearing Minfilia was there.

@@tristant.7581 In Shadowbringers, end of 5.2, Elidibus makes a starshower appear, people are awakened to the Echo and they hear Hydaelyn's voice. Elidibus then goes to explain that the voice they hear is basically a recording that repeats forever and those who hear it are granted the blessing.

@@JohnDCrafton The blessing is just people who receive crystals of light, from what I understood. Hydealyn calling out to those with the echo isn't her blessing them. And Zeno's was a very specific situation where having the genes of an Ancient was clearly having an unexpected effect.

@@siyrean She's not calling out "to those with the echo", she's just calling out to anyone, and only those with the echo can hear. She gives the blessing to those who answer the call. Elidibus literally called all of those people "Warriors of Light", so unless you think someone can be a warrior of light without having the blessing, then it's pretty clear. Or else Elidibus was just lying about everything.
