@StefanMarjoram3 жыл бұрын
You're right, it did have some originally - but only so that Count Soukhanov could use it on the road. Record attempts were done without. Having sat in the passenger seat on long journeys I know exactly why he requested them - carbon monoxide poisoning! The car now has a set of pipes for touring - but they can easily be removed for spectacle. It runs pretty much the same with or without. This video shows the very first time the engine started. Now with much attention paid to the ignition and valve gear it starts and runs much more happily :) Here's a gallery from a trip across France... flic.kr/s/aHsmHzXQvz

Gentlemen. Absolutely fantastic machinery preservation I hope for all to enjoy forever. Fiat if I am not mistaken were the first Italian company to go motor racing on the Italian constructors side. As for the huge engine I am not surprised as their engineering technicians created the magnificent aero engine Fiat AS9 which powered the Macchi M72 to an all speed air speed record for float aeroplanes in the 1930s that still stands today. I digress wonderful peice of video sound work she really snarls growls lovely .Is there a preservation trust to keep her going I should be interested to join if so. I believe she was made to challenge the speed record of the blitzen. Notable Fiat racing driver Felice Nazzaro and sadly killed New Yorker David Bruce Brown who lost his life in a practice for the1912 American Grand prix .just to let readers know the seaplane mentioned can be seen at the Italian airforce museum the Reggia aeronautica in Italy and the engine in turin at Fiat museum. 🙂

I can't give you an exact figure - but having just done a 500 mile road trip I can say that we did stop at a lot of stations - though it's not as horrendous as you might think because the engine turns incredibly slowly by today's standards. 128mph at 1000rpm :)
