No gather step basically. Some lob pass you the ball, and you catch it you have to dribble immediately. In nba, you can gather step. E.g lob pass, hands catch ball same time left foot move, right foot move then left foot move again it's ok. In fiba that's a travel

You would be surprise at how many refs at a young level call that travel. Where im from, there are refs who clearly haven't attended any modern any rules or referee workshops in the past decade because they still call that particular spin a travel. But also, one of the reasons they are showing it is not because it is something new, but they're trying to contrast it with the Deandre Jordan move to say "these two zero steps are the same move; these two moves are the same: therefore legal"

NO. you are quoting the wrong rule. It is a separate rule within 25.2 If you are both feet on the ground, catching the ball then you are right If we are moving and catching the ball, we are to release it before our second step. Look correct me if I'm wrong by all means, but the video is titled 'rule changes', so people referring to this as 'only legal in the nba' seem to be missing ( I think ) the point. That is, that FIBA is now adopting the two steps before shooting rule of the NBA that would previously resulted in a travelling violation in international games. I'm glad they have if it is indeed the case, because it allows players a lot more flair on offense, & will means less confusion amongst fans.

Art. 25.2.1: A player who catches the ball while he is progressing, or upon completion of a dribble, may take two steps in coming to a stop, passing or shooting the ball: ▬ If receiving the ball the player shall release the ball to start his dribble before his second step. ▬ The first step occurs when one foot or both feet touch the floor after gaining control of the ball. ▬ The second step occurs after the first step when the other foot touches the floor or both feet touch the floor simultaneously. ▬ If the player who comes to a stop on his first step has both feet on the floor or they touch the floor simultaneously he may pivot using either foot as his pivot foot. If he then jumps with both feet no foot may return to the floor before the ball is released from the hand(s). ▬ If a player lands with one foot he may only pivot using that foot. ▬ If a player jumps off one foot on the first step he may land with both feet simultaneously for the second step. In this situation, the player may not pivot with either foot. If one foot or both feet then leave the floor no foot may return to the floor before the ball is released from the hand(s). ▬ If both feet are off the floor and the player lands on both feet simultaneously, the moment one foot is lifted the other foot becomes the pivot foot. ▬ A player may not touch the floor consecutively with the same foot or both feet after ending his dribble or gaining control of the ball.

You right about the travel violation but your reasoning is wrong. :) 1st: You allowed to pick up your pivot foot. Fiba Rules: "To pass or shoot for a field goal (!!!), the player may jump off a pivot foot, but neither foot may be returned to the floor before the ball is released from the hand(s)" 2nd: It is a travel violation because WHEN she picks up the ball (gaining control of the ball). Fiba Rules: "The first step occurs (!!!) when one foot or both feet touch the floor after gaining control of the ball (!!!)" It would be a legal 0 Step (and not a travel) in her case, if she would have planted her swing foot 1st and THEN gained control of the ball by picking it up with both hands. So video-editor is wrong aswell. ;)

phurin kosumapinun what are you taking ab she never gets touched
@cjzanders54306 жыл бұрын
She traveled. You don’t get 2 more steps after that. What she should’ve done was cross over around the 3 point line and create space. The defender is too tall. That was a losing battle.

c'est un marché! L'arbitre a totalement raison !

I think both situation happened before the new travelling rule was introduced. Thats why the officials called travelling violation

Even experts unable to judge travelling in NBA matches especially when players are running to dunk. It needs a balance between fair play and commercial profits...

@cappy1.890 Жыл бұрын
Yes,the 0 step is used and all but you still can't take out the fake that he grabed the ball with both hands then dribbled wich make's it a doubble dribble and therefor a travel
@wat4504 Жыл бұрын
You can still dribble after catching the ball with 2 hands

I think DJ pick up the ball from the pass and gather step "0 step" and then step first before he dribble the ball. And i think he needs to dribble first before the steps. This is opion only. Sorry for my english😂

First on he picked up the ball u can’t bounce if u pick it up idk if he did lol.

20 years ago i did the same. I told coaches its not a travel. Smh now
@dralger5 жыл бұрын
You didn't understand step zero. Even with step zero both situations are traveling. Step zero is a concept only when the player receives the ball. The rules for start dribbling from standing or stop dribbling are unchanged. DeAndre Jordan is still a traveling because he has to start the dribbling before step 1. That is the reason why they changed the rule by introducing a step zero and not by increase the number of possible steps by one.

So from the first clip, double dribbles aren’t a thing that exist in FIBA apparently?
@jeffreyhall14536 жыл бұрын
Spin move is illegal as soon as you land on your pivot foot again. Meaning you have to spin and shoot off of one hand. When you plant your foot you change pivots and it counts as a travel. The first play looked alright tho for the NBA . The second is a spin only legal in the NBA and not in any high or college play. Research the rule

@bestbronzethreshna62746 жыл бұрын
no fiba is now using more nba rules because euro steps and spin moves should be legal moves everywhere.
@montecarlo19986 жыл бұрын
The SPIN MOVE became Illegal when she picked up the ball with two hands, that's when counting starts, her left foot became her pivot then she spins, lift the pivot then land it again, clearly a travel. It will be legal and the 0 step would apply "gather step" if she spins and uses her one hand then plant her right foot then both hands, then her right becomes her pivot, lift it and take a shot, that is the LEGAL move.

the "0" step?! This is what is wrong with basketball today and why no current player will ever be the greatest ever.......the rules have been watered down too much.
@atkuhns35626 жыл бұрын
You obviously never watch basketball in the 70s and 80s. And don't be such a potty mouth.
@atkuhns35626 жыл бұрын
The fact that players are allowed to travel, double dribble, flop, and pin the ball against the backboard has watered down the game to the point that it is more like watching a WWE event that an actual sport. It might be a faster game today but it just isnt the same and I feel that it is for the worse. With your way of looking at it why have the players dribble the ball at all? Think of all the amazing moves they could do then.......
@atkuhns35626 жыл бұрын
Okay, thanks for your time. You are a foul mouth but I appreciate the conversation.

@zeokenX we used to do stepbacks, eurosteps and spin moves with strict rules as you call It, then if a 17 yo kid can do It, why a professional player can't? Why they need to have more permissive rules to do such moves? Aren't they good at It?

@gyrowave6 жыл бұрын
Travel violation is about eluding or taking advantage on an opponent , the step thing is about the pivot foot on starting a drible, you will gain distance and can't be stopped . . . .all the rest is details, don't stop the game if its not necessary!
@sooperfy2 жыл бұрын
True. But in a way. If a player can’t properly dribble according to regulation than they are taking advantage of the other team whether theyre bringing the ball up with everyone back on defense or a fast break.

So instead of confusing ppl just say ur allowed three steps. Because if u start counting at 0 ur allowed three steps now.
