The evidence for fiber is so overwhelming and consistent I'm convinced someone must lie to themselves to stay convinced fiber is "useless". I routinely get over 70g/day and its not laborious or challenging. My breakfast alone has over 35g of fiber. Im very close to crossing 100g of fiber in a single day, got to 95 the other day.
@chickenballs-balls6 сағат бұрын
the challenge for me is getting fiber without the carbs, I'm getting "enough" right now for sure but it's nowhere near the dietary recommendation (which everyone should take with a grain of salt, maybe a dash more likely) but yeah. for anyone curious why I say "enough", I lowered my veggies when I increased my protein and fat because I felt fine, but after maybe a month of that I started burping a lot (there's also a possibility that something triggered this, iodine from kelp to be exact, but even after stopping kelp, it persisted) it went on for maybe 2 months. I increased my veggies again, next day I would say my burping was no longer noticeable.

I not only have taken care of my hemorrhoid problem, but I lost some weight which was an unexpected result. If you suffer in the backside, give fiber a try. No one was expecting this topic of conversation. But I couldn't let him just think this was normal and ok. I explained to him that he should not be struggling and what he was describing as an imbalanced diet. He needed fruits, vegetables, and fiber to move things along. Sometimes it seems to me that many people pick a view on questions like this and will stick to it no matter what. Many of the effects of food take time to accumulate and can be hard to distinguish from other factors on a person by person basis. So, absent direct immediate personal evidence, people pick whatever beliefs they want. Personally it seems insane to suggest that eating fruits, beans and vegetables isn’t healthy. But I also can’t waste time worrying if people want to believe it.

@stellasternchen11 сағат бұрын
I doubt that will lead to much. Feldmann is focused on mechanisms and his model ignoring outcome data or flaws that have been pointed out. Norwitz has lost it in my opinion, as his goal now seems popularity, cherry picking data in his videos, calling doing mini challenges science/evidence. He also likes to „please“ whoever he is talking to, backpaddeling… Not sure if that would be helpful in a debate. Budoff, well. Let‘s say his methologies in studies seem to be questionable. He is the one that used mineral oil (a laxative) as a placebo in the clinical trial of the drug vazkepa (omega-3) trying to show benefit in treating high risk cvd patients. Purposefully to show benefit where there is not? The data was actually not reproducible. Maybe I would enjoy Lane debating him pointing out the various flaws of the ongoing LMHR study design and his post hoc analyses that have been published so far, while the main study data is still missing.

The fact all food in nature including aninal contains fiber makes this point moronic. Meat fiber is tendons, sinew, fur, feathers as well as the undigested and partially digested contents of the digestive tract that obligate canvore animals do eat in nature. Had shawn ever hunted anything in his life he would have noticed the fur and feathers in the scat of wolves and coyotes. Plus fiber is how the human digestive system regulates digestion. Those who have have gas issues from fiber is primarily from a combination of fiber and high sugar and starch creating fermentation in the gut. Humans are not hind gut fermenters like a gorilla for example we have no cecum.

"prevents nutrient absorption" is actually somewhat correct in a context. Soluble fiber can bloom preexisting SIBO (small intestinal bacteria overgrowth), which would include "good bacteria" which feeds on soluble fiber. Even good bacteria can block nutrients in SIBO. There is a wide range guess of the population that might have SIBO, and it's possible minor SIBO could affect as high as a third or more of the population. In that regard, the carnivore crowd accidentally has some validity because the main induction of SIBO is excessive carbs, which carnivores wouldn't worry about. In healthy populations, yes, soluble fiber only has a positive effect because bacteria is relegated to the lower intestine, and should be encouraged. So it's a "mostly false." (from what I have heard. No PhD on my name lol. But I'm big on daily fiber)

The whole bacterial overgrowth thing is hugely exaggerated
@WholeCosmos13 сағат бұрын
that is why you eat probiotics with the fiber like a probiotic supplement or yogurt or any fermented foods like kimchee, sauerkraut etc... to repopulate the gut and outcompete harmful bacteria.
@scottrogers149312 сағат бұрын
@@timmat8029 "citation required." Lol. No thanks. It's a social media post. Dispute it if you wish.... Fact: SIBO is a bacterial overgrowth in the small intestine known to block nutrient absorption, causing deficiencies and weight loss over time. Fact: because it's bacteria, it feeds on...bacteria food, such as prebiotic and carbohydrate sources. Thus, feeding it creates a positive growth environment for it. No citation needed for that obvious statement about SIBO you can discover on about ten seconds on a Google search... as for SIBO being a diseased State requiring treatment, of course. That's why I distinguished it from a healthy population.

I'm confused by the last part of the video - you seem to view the carnivore diet negatively in general, but then say it's fine to do it as an elimination diet. But if someone feel good and feels better than they ever did on that, what is the problem with continuing it, not reintroducing other foods to "see that what you can tolerate"? And, unless I'm misunderstanding the meaning of "tolerate", wouldn't it be better to just eat food that you feel good eating rather than trying to tolerate other foods because society says you're supposed to be eating those foods?
@Pemulis112 сағат бұрын
I dunno. I'm pretty suspicious of all the fiber love, and yeah - much of your microbiome needs fiber to thrive, but if that's the part of your microbiome that eats fiber, then why would you need it if you're not eating fiber? Personally, the less fiber it I eat, the less I even think about pooping - about the same time every day I spend about twenty seconds on it, then only a courtesy wipe because there's no mess. Sometimes I do crave some veggies or fruit and when I do, I eat it. Probably, overall, no matter your fiber level the thing that's gonna get you most healthy is avoiding the big 3 of highly processed, no added sugar, and no seed oils. As for 'studies', I wish it were reasonable to have more confidence in them, but most of them are so ridiculously compromised by conflicts of interest that they're borderline worthless.
@stellasternchen11 сағат бұрын
A study has to get funded by someone. They all do have conflicts of interests, may it be the University, the author or a company. If you go by that you would need to reject all studies. To look if you can trust a study, you need to look at the methods section. If there is something fishy, you‘ll find it there. If you want to understand the fermentation of fiber by our microbiome and how we get energy out of it you might look at our cousins, the great apes. They can do that to a higher degree having a more diverse microbiome.
