Alireza genius strat: 1. practice 200 bullet games per day. 2. run low on time to make classic = bullet. 3. profit. Love the games this year!

I am so happy to see AliReza win. The way he looked so dejected after his loss to Vidit. But now Gukesh looked even more forlorn. Hope he bounces back with a win.

All the commenters are amazing! David Howell and Robert Hess are very likeable and Leko analyzes the game really well. All of them do a great job of analyzing the games. Also big respect to the moderators in the chat. I could listen to these commenters for much longer :)

David Howell is the best chess commentator… he is a top 100 player unlike Danya or Hess, but also has conversational / explanation skills that Danya and Hess have. Leko is great because he speaks softly, doesn’t get in the way, and provides great analysis of a former top 10 player.

@@georgeray649 the engine absolutely did see that. It’s the best move it just isn’t an easy move to execute after. The commentators often talk about the moves being practical or not. This is what they mean. Some moves complicate a position and when you’re low on time that can be bad for you even if it would be more accurate.

28:00 Nak-Nepo is a fine mainline Petroff, with thousands of games in this position after white's move 10. It is notable that _92% of those games have been decisive!_ For the Caruana-Prag French after move 8, it is _96%!_ Perhaps to do with the completely open files early on in both games (?)

Not to be disrespectful, just asking, why do these tournaments usually have a 'wildcard' or 'weaker' player? (N Abasov)
@dw96969
@dw96969 2 ай бұрын
Abasov is not a "wild card", He qualified for the tournament like everyone else. Ratings are not used to shortlist candidates otherwise top 7 players by rating will be chosen every year and it would be kind of boring and someone who is young and hasn't reached their top rating yet won't get the chance. choosing candidates in other ways makes other tournaments interesting too as there is something big like candidates on the line and an unexpected player like abasov can reach here.

Tbh Gukesh played kinda strange in time trouble. Can’t expect to push pawns a4 a5 a6 without any considerations about own king safety and hope to win. Anand would’ve won this in his youth, he had that killer instinct Gukesh still lacks.

Utter nonsense. No one who has ever played chess at a high level would agree with this absurd take. Ever noticed the best chess players in the world are also the best at Fischer Random / Chess960? How do you explain that?
@sam9239
@sam9239 2 ай бұрын
That’s a ludicrous statement. Yes, today’s GM’s are very well prepared. But that preparation is what keeps the GM’s stronger. Resources + mental logic. You need both. That’s why today’s GM’s smash Fischer. The prep and the skill. Stop being a nostalgia merchant and appreciate the study.
