FIELD TRIP WITH PATRICK BLANC IN TANZANIA 3 - USAMBARA, AMBONI CAVES & PEMBA

The botanist Patrick Blanc, inventor of the Vertical Garden (Mur Végétal) takes you to a Field Trip in the northeastern part of Tanzania : the East Usambara Mountains with a very high level of biodiversity and endemic species, the Amboni Caves where the Saintpaulia was discovered in the 19th century and Pemba, the northern island of the Zanzibar archipelago where endemic species are protected in the Ngezi forest.

Fascinating! Thank you for uploading this field trip. No wonder so many people fail to keep their "African Violets" alive at home... they receive their _Saintpaulia_ as potted plants from the garden centre or florist and incorrectly assume this is how they should be grown. Then they blame themselves for a "brown thumb" when it promptly dies on them. Seeing _Saintpaulia_ spp as they grow in their native habitat makes it clear how they are to be kept alive.

I didn't know that the genus Saintpaulia had merged with the Streptocarpus... In my mind I was amazed at how those Streptocarpus look so much like Saintpaulias! Thanks for sharing this video! I had already seen images of Saintpaulia in its habitat, but in a film and with the teachings of Patrick Blanc, it's something else! Well, I just started watching the video... I'm looking forward to watch the rest!

Mais le site existe avec près de 10 000 photos, toutes légendées. Il suffit de taper Patrick Blanc ou bien vertical garden et on tombe dessus.

. Not in Tanzania but in Cameroon, I was on your website and I saw salacia zenkeri and it is one of my new favourite plants. If no one grows it I will have to go and collect it myself because it is so incredible. (You don't have any seeds do you haha)?

Yes, Salacia zenkeri is incredibly beautiful and it exhales a strong and strange perfume of mice ! According to what I know this species is not cultivated in any Botanical Garden of the world. Quite common along the forest streams in the Campo area in Cameroon and flowering in September and other months around..
