1990 a mate of mine who drummed in a band with the then unknown Tim Burgess of the Charlatans made a compilation tape for me, containing tracks by Fields, Joy Division, Hüsker Dü, the Chameleons and many others after I'd indicated to him my disillusionment with music. I'd gotten into PWEI, Ned"s, the Wonder Stuff and some others by then.....but then I played THAT tape....Moonchild still one of my all-time favourites...Elizium still gets me in that dreamlike state without the use of mind altering substances....the haunting, mesmeric voice of McCoy and the arrangement around it still sends shivers more than 30 years later....🖤

Love both and overall might prefer Neph, but Andrew probably actually has the better lyrics. Carl is more apocalyptic dreamscape.

@@vsander09 Think you summed it it perfectly. Andrews lyrics are often 'clever' wordplay, subverting know phrases, double meanings and the such, Carls more ethereal mystic.

It IS a bit different. This version is called "One More NIghtmare (Trees Come Down A. D.)", and was issued some 20 years after the original one.

TCD is one of my favorite FotN songs. I have only ever heard the single version, where the good part of the song is only the last third and the rest is kind of boring. Here, they just do the good bit. Excellent.

This band isn't about atmosphere, isn't about the music, isnt about the look, it's about a concept. Carl McCoy said in many interviews they approach the Nephilim idea around concepts , related to automatic writing, automatic perception of a spiritual world following in occult or esoteric ideals; thus the music is played in a dirgelike form of Post-Punk to Goth Rock which is aimed to enhance the conceptual objective of the band. So yes, the music is great, yeah the dark Gothic cowboy look is cool, however all this matches a conceptual basis, without this like Carl McCoy puts it there would not be a F.O.T.N and this was also said by Peter Yates and Tony Petitt, and Nod Wright as well has mentioned the lack of expression in their live shows has been something the band laughs away at most often. Because without the concept for F.O.T.N, there would be equally good music to sustain it, that's simple to understand I suppose.
