I had a 550, hooked it to my 4020 for breaking alfalfa. A very easy pulling plow, well made but not enough clearance for cornstalks. It was a joy to use, like a hot knife through butter. A JD guy but IH always made the best tillage equipment. Looks like you could use some new shins and probably landslides too. A beautiful day to be turning dirt for sure. Wish I had smell o vision. Not much ploughing being done anymore. I was one of the last die hard guys still ploughing, but time and high fuel cost have turned my head now too. I have ploughed hundreds of acres with my old 966 and MF 880 auto reset plough. And ripping your finger on a plough bolt head is a hard lesson everyone learns, me included. I use a angle grinder with a fibre wheel to cut bolts off, works good to. Your ground looks like it will work down nice. Those old tractors were built for that kinda work!
@williammatzek46602 жыл бұрын
Alan I could say this video makes you a pooper scooper. I need to admit this I need to haul manure. That would make me a pooper scooper. When dad was alive he told me this. About 30 ft out from the trees I dug down. I got below where the chisel had run the dirt was full of little orange tree roots.
@kl19582 жыл бұрын
Hi Alan....Gee your ground works up nice! That goes to show you what manure, crop rotation , and green manure does to improve the tilth of the soil! What is your soil sandy loam or silt loam? Well menno I am also a United States farmer Small operation about four or five states south and east of Alan there. And we still mold board here we're in Pennsylvania getting more and more guys going toward no till and cover crops but on our place our equipment is all geared for conventional and I'm 61 years old I'm not anxious to make the lifestyle changes needed to do that. With our small acreage we don't necessarily have to. If we were large acreage we probably would go for the fuel savings etc. My grandfather did a lot of custom work over the years feeling silos and picking corn and he always said his estimation was at the farms and Farmers that had a lot of organic material such as manure particularly and also corn stalks and we're plowing down good sides did not have the erosion issues at people that would stay in row crops nearly steadily would have. That's our estimation around here anyway on this farm.

We have all the corn on corn turned we have to go to the side now it's looking pretty good mostly that's where we put lying down is on the ground that is getting turned from hay to corn this year we only needed ton and a half kind of pointless to bring in the big spreader truck for that so I'm going after turning the half or two ton of pill ties in the morning we'll throw that on there and then we can start plowing in the afternoon with one outfit and the other outfits like yours it needs a little iron work before we can start using it again after last fall small grain and this springs oats ground it needs a little new iron before we can put it to work.
