Therapy dogs and emotional support dogs ARE PETS. They are not Service Dogs. A Service Dog is a specific status defined by ADA law and has federal rights to public access.

I took care of an ex boyfriend’s cat after his mother became ill, and he needed to leave the state to care for her..He ended up being away for over a year, and when he returned, he realized that Marvin the cat was completely settled in with me and bonded..We decided I would just keep him…I don’t even really like cats 😂😂

I wound up with my brothers two dogs when he lost his job and had to move where he couldnt keep them. I fed them, loved them, paid very high vet bills - the one dog had stones in his bladder. We were very attached. After three years my brother wanted them back. He came for Christmas, collected his cat, got his two dogs and I drove him home, three hours away. The place he was renting was a former garage and it was filthy!! No way did I want to leave them there. This is my oldest half-brother and hes a bully. He pushed us out of the door and locked it. I could hear the dogs whining and barking. I still feel guilty about letting them go.

There is a major difference between a service dog and a therapy dog. A service dog is a task trained animal that helps 1 person who has a disability, it has public access rights like restaurants and grocery stores, a service dog also has extensive amount of training (It usually takes 2 years to fully train a service dog). A therapy dog helps multiple people like in a hospital and does not need to be tasks trained but should have basic obedience training, and does not have public access rights. An emotional support dog does not need any training, it provides comfort to the owner by simply existing and it doesn't have public access rights whatsoever. I feel like this needs to be taught in school, the difference between a service dog, a therapy dog and an emotional support dog.

No report on illness or anything depending on how little research you do on the seller. Adoption costs around me are on average $100. And many shelters do provide health information. Many shelters foster in order to determine the dog's proclivities toward children, other animals, other people. I'd respect your choice more if you just said you didn't want to instead of trying to rationalize it with your nonsensical argument.

I am just confused why this gentleman would buy a dog for $1,200 and claim it was meant to be a service dog. I know that service dogs are easily over $12k... sometimes up to $20k for a very specialized dog. Service dog training starts so early to make sure the dog is suitable. Maybe he was confused and meant he wanted a emotional support animal for his child. $1,200 is in the price range of a regular purebred golden, not a service golden.

You can train any service dog yourself. There are people that have used dogs from a shelter as service dogs, they just have to have the right temperament. You don't have to pay 20k for one, but that's typically the cost of the animal plus training if through an organization. But it sounds like he's trying to claim it's meant to be a service dog because he thinks it'll be advantageous for his lawsuit.

A dog bought online not trained to be a service dog is not a therapy dog. Its a dog. Service dogs are trained for a long time and it cost a lot. Regular dog training to train a dog to behave isnt service training. Service dogs are trained from a young age and not sold until they pass and are grown, not puppies. These people take these pets in restaurants arguing theyre emotional support dogs which is crap. Ruining it for real service dogs. Everyone has stress, anxiety etc. Pets are good for that

There is no "licensing" for service or therapy dogs. You can get a nonsense certificate online from they dont mean ANYTHING. Actual service dogs can run up to like 10k because they are trained for a specific task to aid certain disabilities from the time they are a puppy. But when it comes to therapy dogs or emotional support dogs, ANY dog can be one but it doesnt give the owners the same rights as actual service dogs. They are treated like medical equipment. I had an emotional support cat and when she passed, we adopted a dog from the shelter. She was about 2 years at the time. I trained her myself to follow basic commands and have excellent recall. She is my emotional support dog. But I am not out here calling her anything else (except my goofy perfect little land seal ❤) and trying to pass her off as more than a pet who helps with my emotional trauma. This guy is a piece of work.... he made a choice and left his sons oh so important therapy dog with someone else for MONTHS. He admits his son was perfectly fine without the dog and now he comes back and demands it back and when he doesnt get it back, he then sues her for obedience training and a useless certificate? He should have been paying HER for the care of the dog. Then he would have a good case to get his dog back because she was acting as a long term kennel at the owners expense. But he didnt, therefore she doesnt have to give the dog back. He can either pay her all he should have paid her for the care of the dog in order to get it back, or she can keep the dog and let go of any expenses that were incurred. He really has some nerve!
