I was diagnosed in my mid-twenties. I already had several other chronic conditions, and kept ignoring the symptoms because they overlap with my "normal" baseline. But the memory loss was really scary. I was experiencing early dimensa symptoms. The neuropathy, insomnia, paranoia, movement disorder, fatigue, and ulcers were unbearable. I kept getting blood tests for regular anemia with normal results, until a neurologist checked a FULL blood panel. I felt like I was dying, because I was. Injections are the only way to survive and recover. I live a functional life because of shots every other week.

Hi Jameson, I have pernicious anemia as well. I would have had no idea if it wasn’t for my doc randomly testing for it when I was 18 yrs old. I’m now 21 and still dealing with side effects. It’s taken a while to get the right injection schedule, for a while I had 1 injection a month and I wasn’t improving. So now I’m back to 2x per week for a while and then 1x per week and it should help my brain fog and fatigue. It’s not an easy condition to deal with that’s for sure, I also have neuropathic pain from it. After my diagnosis it felt kind of scary having to rely on b12 injections for life. I agree it really makes you think about how important our health is for our quality of life.

The problem that a lot of people face, and this is where people end up in danger, is that a lot of Drs WILL perform blood tests for vitamin B12 levels... HOWEVER they AREN'T performing the tests for ACTIVE B12. So Drs read the results of the test and say "nope you're fine" and send you on your way. A person can have an astronomical Free B12 level, but it doesn't matter how high that level is, if the ACTIVE B12 level is low, and continues to be low, or continues to get lower over time. That's when the body starts tapping out and produces a LOT of symptoms that can be easily attributed to things other than pernicious anaemia. The amount of drugs, such as antidepressants and whatnot, that are being unnecessarily prescribed to people who don't actually have what they're being diagnosed with, is incredible. Drs need to be made more aware of the importance of requesting ACTIVE B12 instead of, or as well as normal B12.

Sure, when you have a Metabolism, Nutritional Disorder the Nerve fibers are no longer able to generate a coating to cover its fibers. This is very painful and very uncomfortable in certain areas of the body, for me? It was my Emotional state, I can easily seem autistic and become upset. Other areas like your eyes. My eyes have permanent black spots from the fibrers not being covered, my Left leg or thigh area near base of sciatica nerve was damaged. And a few other places of nerves, it’s painful. And it gets better than goes back to being painful. I have accepted this as normal now. And manage with medications here and there. My emotional state is quite difficult sometimes. And my braine’s nerves certainly has been affected. So I do have weird things happen like I will get anxiety for no reason, and sometime I almost fall down because my equilibrium is unsteady. And also if I am exposed to heights I almost fall down from being unable to handle the view of Joe guys in front of me. It’s very strange. It’s a strange illness and it does suck. I hope your pain is not like mine and your life is improving if your Ill. You matter and I’m always here if your sick and need to share. JS

Doctors often get this Diagnosis wrong. Seek a Doctor who will treat you with a few B12 Shots to see if that corrects your issue. The problem with B12 Tablets over the counter is...They are incredibly hard on your Kidneys. They damaged mine and I could feel flank pain from the Tablets when I took them. Stop taking them. They are not that useful in my opinion. But everyone is different and no one is the same. Your Blood B12 Levels maybe high at the moment. However this is where Doctors get fixated on the blood test even though the blood test is incorrect for metabolizing B12 inside your cells. Even Though your blood test is high in B12, your intracellular is still depleted and possibly having a difficult time reuptaking B12 inside the cells to make them work & function better. This is what happened to me. I needed Injections to stabilize. It took me about 2 years of treatment/injections and continued injections after I was leveled off to get out of the dark hole of being deficient. I would seek a different Doctor share this what I am sharing with you. It may help you. I will also volunteer with you that I do not feel your illness is as progressed as mine. I was having episodes of weird nerve problems and almost passing out. Plus pain in my large nerves in my body and also my vision is permanently affected and so is my mental health. Make sure they also check your ACTIVE B12 as well as the normal B12 tests. Also, if you're suffering pernicious anaemia, you will find that oral b12 supplements will not help much at all. Although it might help a little. PA sufferers are not able to absorb B12 through the stomach lining, as the stomach doesn't make enough intrinsic factor, which is what binds the B12 so that it can be absorbed through the stomach lining. Injections sort of side-step this problem. Hence, they are more effective at getting, or keeping, the levels up where they need to be.

@@JamesonSharp this doctor is my second opinion unfortunately. My insurance seems to give me clinics and people who don’t seem to know about b12.I tried a hematologist but she was really rotten to me and gave me 10 minutes and didn’t even hear my symptoms she didn’t ask just said I deal with iron issues only . I guess I wasted her time

My onc/hemo said it was just as good to use OTC supplements under the tongue. Is this really just as good as shots? (I have tried it for 2 years now and am just this week having terrible symptoms that won’t let up after just letting the supp stop. Since I have no ileum from right hemicolectomy 9 years ago, have high risk.). Since it’s OTC, do we even know if one brand is as good as another?

I feel your Pain and Struggle, in my opinion Supplements are not worth the bang. If I found myself in your situation? I’d very much much inject myself once a month Cyanclobalomine 1mcg to see how that feels. I bet that makes a big difference in how you feel. Eat a strict diet of 1 apple a day and exercise 2-3 times a week and your life will improve. I’m very certain of this formula as it works for me. Injections in the Intramuscular are the only way to go in my opinion. 🙏

Sorry for your suffering, but you're lucky you only suffered for a year before figuring it out. I am in year 9 of severe neurological issues that have been constant and now progressed to epilepsy. I have trouble walking. Not a single doctor suggested b12/ folate deficiency - they would rather assume I have mental illness. (Until the seizures were finally proven). Also you are lucky your B12 deficiency showed on bloodwork. Sometimes b12 can test normal because it circulates in your blood, but your tissues cannot absorb it. I suspect this deficiency based on the fact I have some genetic mutations that predispose me to impaired metabolism of b12/ folate. It's probably too late to reverse the damage done this past decade.

How often are you injecting B12 Now..?
@JamesonSharp
@JamesonSharp 2 жыл бұрын
Personally I inject once a month. However my regiment is not the standard. When I began injecting Cyanclobalomine it was once a month. But this was not enough. So at about 9months in? I went on a regiment of injecting once a week for almost 4 -1/2 weeks. Then back to one eye a month. That 4 injections lifted me up out of serious nerve damage. But did not cure me or leave me without damage and disability. I struggle daily with my nerve problems and psychiatric changes. Nothing is ever complete. But I have noticed something bizarre. But deadly serious. I must routinely exercise. Or I will die. Meaning my body begins malfunctioning normally and in other crazy metabolic ways. I feel my big toe gets gout if I have NOT exercised or worked out enough. But at least it’s a warning to keep it moving and be vigilant about caring and training my body as a Fighter in MMA activities. I hope this is insightful and I’d be happy to be helpful in any way possible. I wish you the best Good sir. Thank you.🙏

Once a month only???? I need every day!! Try at least 2xweek. Which is the way with neurological damage 2 years. You can do better!!!! B12 methylcobalamin and adenosylcobalamin injections saved my life. I'm on carnivore diet to maybe tackle the autoimmunity or whatever I don't absorb.

Good Evening Tyler, Im so sorry your having illness. I can only share from my experiences which were very dire. I feel like from the description you shared you should give the treatment time. I would suggest to your attending personal physicians to try Micronutrient Blood Tests. Id also begin Exercising or finding a activity that keeps you active. Because in all seriousness I had to force myself to train Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in order to get my body's functions moving. It took me literally 1-1/2year to get better to a point where I could tell I had no more arrythmias and attacks related to metabolic panic. I know that is weird sounding but if you are deficient you will have "EPISODES OF PANIC AND WEIRD BLOOD PRESSURE PROBLEMS" Anyways exercise, seek additional help or opinions. BUT LISTEN TO YOUR BODY!! Your quality of life is what you make of it. It's will be painful moving forward. But Commit and FIGHT!!! Much Love To You. And I feel your pain. Here anytime. JS.

I absolutely had a Heart Arrhythmia issue, and because my anemia was so bad I had issues with breathing. And also because my blood was super thin, my hemoglobin was affected. I also had over hydration problems at times. This caused an issue with my Potassium levels and functions. My kidneys were affected and sometimes ached. My arrhythmia episodes lasted for 2 years. My arrhythmia was terrifying it would happen out of nowhere. Please be in tune with your body’s chemistry, educate yourself on the metabolic changes. And do seek parental b12 therapy from your Doctor. If your Doctor doesn’t listen while you explain your illness or keep your future therapy satisfactory for you? Fire THEM and seek a different physicians care. Not medical advice just my course of actions i have taken in my illness. Be STRONG Sri. ❤️
