Fighting Rain out on the job

Storms were forecast and the boys head out to see how much they can get done before they roll in. We go behind the scenes on our jobs and see what happens outside of our normal work and filming.

I kinda like what Seth was doing, I liked the footage and that he was asking the questions. Some people watching may not know why things are being done a certain way, could save someone some extra work that they didn't have to do by doing it differently.

Its an interesting view from seth, from someone who has zero experience in the construction field. It all depends which way you want to take a view, this is more like the 3rd person views, like when a kid goes by a construction site and sees the guys running all the equipment, and wants to know. Kinda reminds me of a “dirty jobs” type of perspective.

Sam's narration is right to the point and I like how you guys are focusing on the crew and tasks, and the way you show off the equipment through the crew's eyes is great. (everyone reviews shiny new toys but doesn't necissarily show onsite maintenance, issues, breakdowns)

I think that Seth is going to be great addition to the channel. A lot of people here are in the industry and understand the in's and out's, but there are others that are like Seth and don't know. So having Seth ask the questions that we can't is great. Sure it's going to take time for the guys to warm up to him and get used to having him around asking questions, but they will. Sometimes a new hire has a hidden talent that proves to be way more valuable than anything that is known. Seth is an absolute gem hidden in the dirt. His camera shots are priceless. His understanding and knowledge are as valuable as his ability to operate a camera. When it comes to cameramen, there are two types, there are camera holders and there are camera operators. When it comes to drivers, there are two types; steering wheel holders and vehicle operators. If he is at the same pay as he was the first time you handed him a camera, consider a pay raise and free home cooked meals. Be safe and go get 'em. -Matt

my little trick when I'm doing demo of something like bricks or concrete is I put a ton or two on recycled asphalt or sand in the bed to protect it. comparing apples to oranges since I'm talking about tri axle dump trucks and you're loading a dump trailer but it comes in handy to protect the floor which is the number one goal for both of us.

Also if you decide to keep this format because hes doing alot of moving around the job site as someone who has a passing for videoography i recommended a gimbal. This way he can be safe and watch where hes stepping and still get a very smooth shot.

We found it's easier to grease a machine at the end of the day when the machine has been used and the grease points have been warmed up and ran and they seem to take grease much better :) just a helpful tip from a long time operator

I can see Seth's input on the job site being realy helpful for a new guy with a lot of questions. Although they kind of seem dumb to those of us that have done it for a long time, A lot of these questions get asked on my sites. I am currently training a new guy and these are the types of questions that you don't really think to explain as a foreman.

What I really liked was nobody was stood about. Whilst waiting, can't remember his name, greased up the CAT that's a good member of staff. Just wanted to share a work accident story - one of my co workers was greasing the skid steer with the arms up and machine running just like your guy was doing and the guy inside moved the arms the wrong way and crushed his hip !! By far worst work accident I ever witnessed. Just thought I mention watching your guys do the same thing...I know you have a group of good guys that are careful

I’ve seen a few other channels try this out where the channel has grown from one person shooting it and commentating but then an outside cameraman and producer like this come in. Never the same feel as someone internally doing it. KZbin seems to succeed when it’s a person like Stan from the inside shooting things or one of the guys already on staff doing it, bringing in an outsider while I see the attraction (more videos, less hands on work from Stan) but we’re all here for Stan with Sam and others shooting from time to time.

I like it, I am sure the guys like it too, it takes that responsibility off of them and allows them to just work. I think less talking and more just videoing. Maybe if he knew what was going on (and with time it will get batter), he would be able to explain the process of what is going on. Give him some time to see if he picks it up, but I like it.

Check out the Univer-Co lock on grease fittings if your in the market for new lock heads. We use them on aircraft all the time and they help out in tight spots with a good life span.
