What I liked about this thesis is that it's not trying to replace ISU judges with AI, but rather, provide more timely information to help judges make the correct decisions. He still had faith in the judges after all these years of unfair judging, as if the calls they made are due to the impossible tasks they were asked to do, not the politics behind big ferderations.

I was tremendously impressed with Yuzuru long before watching this video. He is incredibly skilled kinaesthetically, elegant, graceful, strong, athletic, intelligent, humble, handsome and sexy. This thesis adds a helluva lot more to my opinion of this man. At the moment, I suspect that the ISU is conservatively resistant and protectionist against anything that challenges their sense of privilege and status. I think that this approach to the technical aspects of figure skating will eventually come about, as it has in gymnastics and other sports, leaving judges to mark on aesthetics, interpretation, artistry and performance.
Yuzu will win because the truth always wins ❗ EVIL IS SHOWN BUT "HAS SHORT LEGS"! Yuzu is a very intelligent Person and has yet to make itself felt in history...💪👏👏

Although Yuzuru Hanyu is the athlete who is most persecuted by the current scoring system, he still does his best to make sure that the sport is scored fairly. While I admire his broad-mindedness, I also admire the fact that he really loves figure skating and has dedicated himself to it. Finally, I would like to thank the video producer for the professional explanation, which not only let me, an amateur, know the physics of the 3 types of jumps, but also inspired me with some ideas that I can apply to my usual scientific work.
When I did my thesis, I was only aiming for good GPA, knowing my thesis was just gonna end up collecting dust in a shelf on the uni's library. BUT his thesis is different. Hell, *HE IS* DIFFERENT!! He can change the world of figure skating, we all know how he pours his soul into the sport. Don't argue with me, I'm stating facts. He already changed my world anyway.

He certainly combined beauty and brains! I see his thesis as something that will inevitably lead the way in the evolution of the sport. Implementing these principles would eliminate many failings in the judging system and improve the overall performance levels of skaters. It is a Process already used in many precision sports like gymnastics, giving the judges less opportunity for bias and more freedom to concentrate on the artistic components of figure skating.🙂🇨🇦
the problem is that the ISU likes the status quo...they actively do not want to apply the technology because then it would be much more difficult for them to manipulate the results. They will do everything they can to postpone it. Big feds, mainly RusFed and USFed want to keep their monopoly as long as they can...AI would level the field, make the sport more objective and therefore more interesting for the outsiders...ISU doesn´t care about this, they care about their egos, power and money from backdoor deals with broadcasting companies and among each other. They will eventually have to adapt to the 21st century, but it won´t be so soon. I read a great quote about Hanyu recently: Legacy means planting the seeds of the garden you will never get to see for yourself. That is what he does...he is not the only one with ideas about the AI, but I am glad that he is involving himself in it, because of his status, thare are always people and media interested...

This is why I admire Yuzuru Hanyu so much. You can clearly see how passionate he is in his career in figuring skating that he uses all his knowledge and experience to create something every skater could possibly have great use of as well as for these sly judges to stop manipulating and tweaking their scores. I sincerely hope that the ISU will stop being a blind eye to this🙄
ISU literally needs to take this into consideration. The unfair judging has been getting too much it makes me so mad how skaters are underscored and overscored. Now, alot of the skaters does not get the scores they actually deserve from their performances because of unfair judging. This could really solve so much problems. If they can do it for gymnastics, they should definitely do it for skating. Besides, yuzuru hanyu has even made a whole thesis about it and has even conducted the experiment. It. can definitely work.
ISU must be trembling cause their long history of underscoring and favoring skaters will be over if Yuzu's thesis is put to work in reality. Judges and their really biased ruling will not be necessary anymore :)
Some federations will push back if they try to introduce this. Coaches have been getting away with teaching skaters how to cheat jumps for years now. They keep doing it because no-one ever calls them out on it (judges I mean). Skaters and fans can all see what's going on, but the judging remains "blinkered" to it. They know exactly who cheats jumps and who doesn't, but they give them high scores anyway. It's time this was stopped! It's honestly ridiculous 🙄

Nice job to summarize Hanyu's thesis and make people who don't understand FS and Japanese to understand easily. Hanyu is the pioneer of Figure skating who really want to improve this sport by starting with a fair competing environment which is ISU failed to provide for years. Hanyu is also a very brave man who doesn't afraid to speak out the truth that the judging system is full of flaws and bias. The figure skating is losing audience because it's lack of integrity and fairness for years and ISU treat the audience and athletes like fools. Some athletes keep getting high scores from judges with wrong technique which is so unfair to athletes who work so hard to execute correct tech. If ISU can't find a way to enforce their judges to follow the rules they made by themselves, they really should use motion capture, images analysis, and computer tech to solve the problems. These kind of tech is already applied to so many sports field, there is no excuse ISU can't try to do it. BTW, ISU should take his advice seriously and stop underscoring him. Belittling Hanyu won't diminish his greatness. He is true GOAT who have great skating skills and intelligent science brain with strong passion. ISU and the world should treasure this kind of genius. It's hard to find another skater like him.

Comment, read 😊 Thank you for praising YUZURU's treatise. The treatise he wrote is the reality and future outlook for the figure skating world he envisions. Nowadays, jumping fraud is common. If you look at Pro Turkey, even beginners can understand the badness of scoring. I don't want to compare YUZURU and Nathan Chen ... 😓 YUZU's performance has reached a considerable level both technically and artistically. Nathan is gradually getting better in terms of art, but ... l As far as Nathan's protocol is concerned, GOE beyond the acting content is exploding. I don't think it will improve even if I re-educate Jatch. YUZURU got all the titles. To that end, he has made considerable efforts. He has overcome many difficulties such as illness and collision at Link. Fans have seen such a situation. Recently, he has been unable to win. He also has some acting failures in his own acting ... It is even said that cheating by Jatch is also a factor. Now he is challenging an unknown territory. 4A (quad accelerator) where no one is flying I hurt my body and practice quad his accelerator for 2 hours a day. Quad Successful accelerator is his ultimate goal. He is not interested in the Beijing Olympics. He has already won the gold medal at the Olympics, so he doesn't seem to want any more. Many of us, Japanese fans, wish him the success of his quad his accelerator. After that, I just hope that he will contribute to the development of figure skating after his retirement. The thesis he proposed is just the first step 👍 He has a wise idea. He has a personality that allows him to share pain with others. The sum of the prize money, commercial income, bounty (country), event income, etc. that he won in figure skating is a considerable amount. He has donated 200 million yen (Japanese yen) so far. Ten years ago, there was a big earthquake in Japan. (Tsunami also happened.) Many people were killed and the situation was devastating. The house was washed away, the family died, and injured one after another. He was also one of the victims. His house was also washed away by Tsunami. His home was gone and his family of four spent several days evacuating to a nearby physical education center. He said, "I may not be able to continue skating ..." It seems that he thought. However, with the efforts of his mother and the skating teacher, I was able to continue with the support of those around me. The gold medal at the Sochi Olympics was really due to his own efforts and the support of those around him. So he began to give back with that gratitude. He always donates to disaster areas that occur almost every year in Japan. He may only see his acting for a short while, but he has no choice but to cheer him on.

It is no secret that the sport is dying and not many take it seriously (including the ISU). But by implementing something like this, I feel that more people will take this seriously. At this point, the only reason I feel that the ISU don't implement something like is because I think the big federations and their skaters would suffer if they implement a fair judging system where they (big Fed skaters) would not enjoy certain bonuses.

And his thesis, as you correctly translated and interpreted, shows his natural ability to analyze every element of both technical and artistic body movements on the ice. Coach Brian did help Yuzuru enhance this special ability by leading his "image training".. As you show the comment by Takeshi Honda, he continued the image training on the ground while he couldn't stand on the ice, until 2 or 3 weeks before the 2018 Olympic game. THANK YOU!! You are great, not only translating but also "validating" Yuzuru's thesis and his interpretation of "what they figure skating is supposed to be".... I know that Yuzuru has been frustrated, not just about some unfairness, but rather the lack of in-depth knowledge of the judges about those technical yet kinetic elements.
@harumih.37273 жыл бұрын
Yuzuru started the study of human body mechanics and kinetics even before he joined Waseda, did you know that? He already knew the relationships of jumps, heights, speed, and physics, etc, thanks to the input from Gislan coach. His notes were full of numbers within names of jumps, and he always carried the note wherever he went. Yuzuru has a brain to think of jumps and spins and steps in terms of numbers and kinetics. He demonstrated this "thinking" when he performed the Origin at the 2018 R Cup free skating, after the ankle ligament injury. He was indeed "calculating numbers of jumps and scores".

He even recalculates his program layout on the spot while skating. Massive brain.
@@subi4231 Does google translate do a better job when you use it from English to Japanese? From Japanese to English it is almost ridiculous. 😂

Yuzuru is such an amazing figure skater, he is not only talented but also a genius! He is one of the serious and fair athletes and some judging system should learn from him.. Yes.. The fairness. Some peeps out there already brag abt judges are the one who rule it and we need to rely and believe it all for what they scored. But tbh they could make an error judgement from the limited human ability to see all details with that speeeeeeeed. Not talking about bias....and the way they volunteer to judge tho. Jeez...

Just read through the english translation and i have to say, props to you guys! the thesis was very easy to read without any confusing words or needlessly complicated words, and i could understand all the points and descriptions of the experiment with ease. but wow, this thesis is basically yuzuru looking at the judges and saying "well since you cant do your job well enough, let me find a solution that may help." i mean, thats crazy. imagine a tennis star writing an entire paper on researching another way to enhance the referee's ability to regulate a match. that is such a diss LOL anyways, yuzuru's paper was written very well. he included all of the necessary points of his experiment, including the background of the experiment, the objective, what he intends to prove/find through this paper and experiment, the specifics of the equipment used for the experiment, all the precautions and preparations he and his team did before, during, and after the experiment, clear pictures and illustrations of the data collected, very technically accurate but easy to understand explanations of figure skating jumps and spins (he wrote his thesis for review by a panel of lecturers, who may not know anything about figure skating). he explained his rationale behind each action he undertook, and also expressed his thoughts where they were needed. not only did he gather the data and performed the experiment, he also recommended places where the technology could be used, in other words, he did some work thinking of how the data collected could be applied in the field of figure skating. i also didnt know that there were figure skating choreographers who purposely choreographed jumps such that the judges could not see if they took off from the correct edge (see page 17 of google document, 2nd paragraph) thats such a dirty way of doing the sport, but i suppose part of the problem lies with the judges for being unable to judge jumps accurately enough to prevent it from happening

Appreciate your comment a lot!! Yes Hanyu’s thesis was an eye opener to us the fans. It was an absolute pleasure translating his thesis and made this video for him and for his fans to understand what kind of genius brain and sincere mind he has. Our respect for him shot up 10 levels after reading his thesis lol 😂 he’s more than just THE skater to us, but THE man we look up to. Wish Hanyu be involved in some kinds of AI research after his skating career. He’s too precious for the world. Do share it to more people if you can. I think it’s not just for figure skating but to everyone who’s interested in learning something new, this will be helpful. Thank you 😊 ~

I hope his treatise will reach as many people as possible. He loves figure skating more than anyone . That's why he wrote the treatise .This is a great treatise with an eye on the future of figure skating. He's not for himself, but for the future of young skaters and figure skating. I hope the day when the technology he researched can be realized in the future will come soon.
