They come out and see that they are perfectly fine.They finally told her if she called anymore she would be in trouble. With human babies with breast milk they get sufficient water. Formula fed babies need water but after a certain age. Check with your pediatrician to see when they advise adding water. It is not in the 0-3 month age range, it has been too long but check with the pediatrician.
@JeanBrewer9 ай бұрын
@@serenitysealed485 6 months old Key facts. If your baby is under 6 months old, they only need to drink breast milk or infant formula. From 6 months of age, you can give your baby small amounts of water, if needed, in addition to their breast milk or formula feeds.

I had a horse die because of someone's ignorance and arrogance. Actually went to the extent of having her husband prank call me as the humane society. The person who threatened to report you clearly has never had very young baby animals.🙄 As far as your question…once the calves get bigger & it starts getting hot then yes even calves still drinking milk should be given access to water. But that’s once they’re at least 3+ months old. Even then it’s just primarily once it’s really hot weather…like last summer. Babies like that calf not only doesn’t need water but having a trough low enough for it to access unless VERY shallow could be risky as it or especially newborn calves could get in & get stuck &/or cold from being wet while the weather is still getting cool at night. Full disclosure my experience is with other breeds of cattle not longhorns. I’m sure the couple you purchased all those beautiful longhorns from could give you a more exact answer on when longhorn calves need access to water. As I know that breed is far more hearty than others. So the answer may be different for them. Regardless I know you ALWAYS do what’s best for ALL your animals.❤ But you asked so sharing what little I know. Glad to see your dreams of a growing herd of longhorns is coming true! Love watching them come up through all the trees. Going to look magical once all the leaves come in. Although I do love how June doesn’t let any of the longhorn push her or Frank around.😂 Highlands may look like the fluffy puppy dogs of the cow world but they are tough!! BTW…has Rae seen the videos of the miniature highland cows? A couple of those would fit right in with the alpacas & goats.😂❤

❤ PLEASE keep on preaching Chad! 1999 my hubby & I got our 14 acre farm. He married into my love of horses & this farm was perfect for our carriage driving. It came with a boarder, sr owner & 32ish yr old standardbred mare. The horse had many health issues & really needed the last act of kindness. I had 3 visits from the humane society for abuse & neglect of this horse. Guilty until proven innocent - which turns out to be never. Even though the horse was not mine & mine was in great shape, I was the one written up. The visits happened over a 5 yr period. The last visit, the owner was in a nursing home, so I called the son, told him I had called the vet & would be sending him the bills for euthanizing & burial. 5 yrs later we go to the humane society shelter to adopt a dog, we were rejected - we had a record! I’m now down to my last pony, she lives outside 24/7/365, has a run in, 100 gal water tank, I get hay for the year - grass hay, low carb as pony has Cushing’s and needs a restricted diet. She gets hay twice a day, very little grass- it’s too rich for her metabolism. The vet comes annually, equine dentist visits as needed, farrier every 8 weeks. She is on a daily med, $360 for 160 tablets, she gets one daily. I body clip her 2 times per year, She doesn’t shed out because of the Cushing’s. |I had a visit from the humane society in November, somebody reported neglect, we don’t get to meet our accuser. The guy took pictures of everything, asked a ton of questions & I had to prove my innocence. She a registered Norwegian Fjord, they are not cheap, she’s my 4th & my last. I wish people would mind their own business, or if you just can’t, come knock on the door, our phone numbers are posted if I’m not home, I will educate you. I’ve taught stable management, riding and driving & have been involved with horses for over 65 years, owned Fjords since 1988. Thanks for letting me vent, it gets so frustrating when people make a judgement and are making it ignorant of the facts. It’s no harm to them, but it is to me & my husband. When we couldn’t adopt that dog, even with small and large animal vet references, a vet tech who worked at the shelter, that had known us for years, that hurts. You and Rae are doing a great job and your animals are all well cared for and absolutely loved. God bless and the family. Again thanks for letting me vent, much appreciated! ❤️🇺🇸🙏

Well, if anyone DOES come out to check on your animals due to calls/reports, you can get on a friendly basis with them lol. I was reported by jealous neighbors on my old horse I had, and they would have to come out 1-2x a month!!! They stopped and talked the first time , and i walked them through EVERYTHING I did for my horse. Her food/water, balnkets,Pasture care,ect. After that when they came out they just did a drive by and waved , and went on their way. Inspectors out here in PA HAVE to check on reports they get, even if its the same address they know the animal is ok. Eventually it stopped, and this year I dont have a horse as i found her a new home with another old horse. No horse, no call (until they start reporting me for my chickens,ducks, and turkey lol). Take everything with a grain of salt, and laugh the stupidity of others away. I know the inspectors know my horse was well taken care of, and jealous people like to make everyone else miserable. Pfft on them, walk on and have a good day.

Even though I was NOT the one who asked about your water set up for calves, I DO have answers for you. Calves that are with mama 24/7 do NOT NEED water, especially not this EARLY. When the calves are starting to be weened by mama & on mostly solid food, will begin to need water, but NOT now. I think you have several months before that would be an issue. You can always get another shorter water trough for them then. For right now, you are fine. Later, this summer, when the heat is bad, you might consider one, but for now, I wouldn't worry about it. Breast FED babies do NOT require water, either. That calf is fed on demand, just like MOST breastfeeding human moms do, and baby cows or baby humans do not need water. 😊 You guys are doing an AWESOME job on your new ranch!! Glad the wild dogs aren't bothering you guys any more. 😊
