I have only done direct pours.... looking forward to trying moulds.

They're much easier because if you make a mistake, you can just remake it and you don't waste the setting or have to try to get it out. They're more secure too! Nikki

Thanks so much for this. Personally I prefer moulds - direct pour still scares me

Same! I've been doing this for 6 years and direct pour scares me too. We are all human and make mistakes, if I make a mistake with a cabochon/stone/orb/bead I can just return it to the client along with the ashes etc. If I make a mistake with a direct pour, I have to start again with a new setting or take time to remove the resin and start again. I tend to make at least two at once so they have slight colour variations and it reduces client complaints. Here's my blog about filled v cabochons keepsakersupplies.com/filled-vs-rubover-cabochon-settings/ Nikki

I think direct pours look lovely, and they're faster and easier but I would ask you to consider doing cabochons/stones so that you can send clients a proof photo. Here's my blog with the pros and cons keepsakersupplies.com/filled-vs-rubover-cabochon-settings/ My main concern with direct pours is that some clients will say, "I don't like the colour or the way the ashes sit" and there's no way to change it (it's hard to remove the resin again). Making a few stones and sending proof photos cuts way down on those kinds of complaints. Hope that helps Nikki

Thank you for this! I prefer molds, I'm always scared I'll mess up the rings with direct pours!

Same! Plus we can send pics for the client to approve (not that some don’t change their minds anyway later) Nikki

Where do you buy molds for the gems

I make them by hand, they're for sale along with everything else I've used in the video on KeepsakerSupplies.com (links in the video description). Hope that helps! Nikki
