Wish I could take you back to Japan in the early 1960s Mark. I was a Tennessee hillbilly whose only experience with fish was fried catfish but that changed with my first taste of sushi and sashimi. I grew to love everything about their culture, especially their food. I have shared the last 60 years with a Japanese wife. ❤

@datHDgameplay Жыл бұрын
it's a risk you take. just chew your food well. :)
@longschlongjohnson6470 Жыл бұрын
Fresh will always be more risky than cooked or deep frozen. I don't think the average home freezer will be cold enough to significantly reduce your chance of catching something. You can risk it fresh or purchase frozen, which is what Mark did here.

here in North eastern Australia, mozambique and blue tilapia are really invasive. We have to kill them and throw them away by law. Which means it's illegal to be in possession of even the fillets. However they are fun to fish for they fight reasonably hard and can be caught with small hooks and baits like bread and worms. I have seen people catch them on lures rarely.

Tilapia tastes real muddy like all other fresh water fish. I've never heard of anyone eating it raw. Actually, I've never heard of anyone eating any fresh water fish other than salmon and trout raw.
@metroid158 Жыл бұрын
You're not supposed to eat any freshwater fish raw because of the bacteria they have. All fish that can be eaten raw are saltwater. Those tilapia sold for sushi are actually tilapia farmed in salt water their whole lives, as they live in both fresh and saltwater.
@krnpowr Жыл бұрын
@@metroid158 Ah.. gotcha. I didn't know there was saltwater tilapia. That's why I was saying that Tilpia, like all other freshwater fish, tastes muddy as fuck. You have to season and cook the shit out of them, literally.

Question: Why is the frozen tilapia good for sushi but the fresh is not? Is it because it has been frozen, which would kill any parasites? Just wondering.
