My county line splitter has a small hole in the bolt that goes into the top of my hydraulic tank. Bubbles out fluid after working for a bit. Is this normal?
@robtemple34453 жыл бұрын
Ok, thanks for the log splitter fluid refill tutorial, BUT..... you left out one critical step, & that is once you fill to correct level, then start engine & move the ram back & forth several times, then recheck fluid level, & verify correct level. Repeat until fluid level stabilizes. Then you're done. Thanks

Hey mate just wondering if this bleeds the system when doing so? I’m planning to change the fluid in my machine and wasn’t sure if needed to bleed the lines.

I have the same splitter and the decal from MTD for hyrdo oil reads "3-3.5 inches from top of tank"

also, recheck your fluid level after starting , because once its fired up , you will be filling the hoses and filter, if you drained it all out to begin with...

You didn't mention why you use hydraulic oil when you took out hydraulic fluid does it make a difference

@JOGO the tank is on the right side of the log splitter. When I said one inch from the top I meant to fill the oil until there is 1 inch of room left at the top of the tank.

Mine keeps shooting out of the fill plug. Why is that?

Mine was doing that when I had the machine on a slope. I spun it around so the fill plug was on the higher side and it stopped

Why didn't you show where it was filled up to when you filled in ? Did you mean 1 inch from the top of the fill tube or the top of the filler tube ?

Where’s the oil plug to drain the oil? Wanted to change the oil on the family’s splitter but can’t find it?
@theatlantichomesteader18605 жыл бұрын
John R. In my system there is no “drain plug” you have to siphon or pump the oil out of the tank. I would not suggest The siphon method as you can seriously damage your mouth and internal organs if you are using the old-fashioned method. If you have a pump for the siphon that would be better. I used a reverse oil pump to take out all the oil in the tank. www.amazon.com/EWK-Pneumatic-Changer-Extractor-Remover/dp/B06WD64H8Z/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?keywords=manual+oil+pump&qid=1556496073&s=gateway&sr=8-3 that is a link were you can get one yourself. Keep in mind I am not endorsed by this product in any way. I am simply providing a link for one of my viewers.

Unfortunately there isn't a drain plug, just pull the bottom hose off of the tank and let it run out. Put the hose back on and refill the reservoir with the hydraulic fluid your splitter recommends. Check the manual for how often you need to change the fluid and filter.

There’s no drain plug you just gotta pick it up and hold it upside down until it’s Empty

You would be correct! I made this video my sophomore year of high school after my dad told me to go change the hydraulic oil on the log splitter. As it turns out! The log splitter developed a major leak in the rod seal/wiper area of the ram and we ended up having to send it in for some work. To this day, I don't know if what I did was the cause of the leak (I feel like it might have been since I overfilled the tank ). But I do know that if I needed to change the oil again, I would NOT follow this video. I keep this video up because it signifies a point in my life where I was just starting to get into mechanics and fixing things. I don't believe in taking back actions that were done in the past and so this video, for better or for worse, will remain up on my page. If you don't like it, leave a shrewd comment letting me know how much of a buffoon I am! That's the beauty of KZbin!
