you can also track the perf hole and lock it, or try to use keyframes in ROI settings

Certainly, your approach should be effective provided that the previous generation didn't misalign anything in the transfer, that happens occasionally on internegatives and positive prints and it can cause some issues. So, relying on the frame borders is your best bet.

@@fabiocolor Also, there is a use-case for keeping the "Outside frame" switched on - when you have optical soundtrack and you are using DVO Flicker. What happens is that when you just stabilise in lets say using only DVO SteadyII, you are going to get a lot of light fluctuations in DVO Flicker when you do not mask the optical soundtrack.

The blanking in frame lock is indeed quite useful for most procedures. Typically, I only restore the borders for the final delivery.

Do you have any tips or solutions for dealing with warped film, such as heat damage; causing it to shrink in a pattern every few frames?
@fabiocolor6 ай бұрын
In Phoenix, there is a filter called DVO Warp that automatically detects and corrects vertical warping. It's a convenient 'set it and forget it' solution for most cases.

@@fabiocolor Thank you! That's actually what I've been using, I may just need to tweak it better since I neglected to read the manual on it. ❤️❤️❤️ Most of my issue is ironically horizontal warping.* It shrinks inwards 😭

A neat trick is to rotate the image with a pan and scan and disable blanking a bit convulated but works fine.

For film restoration work, I prefer using Phoenix. When it comes to color correction, I find Resolve and Nucoda to be quite effective. And for more challenging tasks involving VFX and complex restorations, I rely on NukeX.
