As a Niners fan, it was a disaster. A few decent intermediate plays doesn't negate the full half of inefficiency.

By now I'm sure that you've seen Purdy can make ANY play that Lance can, and about 1,000 that Lance can't. There was a scramble throw to Deebo in the Tampa Bay where Purdy kept his eyes downfield and threw a strike that went over 20 yards in the air. Purdy is the highest rated rookie QB in history, and through his first 17 games is the highest rated QB in NFL history. He has FIVE games in that span with 3+ TD's and a QB rating of 140+, which is a record for a QB's first two seasons. Kurt Warner had the record of three such games.

I saw him cross over another defender, again sending the defender to the ground then high stepped it to the sideline for a big gain. After the game one of the opposing players said that White QBs aren’t allowed to do that. Brock just laughed at him. I’ve seen Brock burst straight up the middle through the line to walk in for a TD. I’ve seen him throw 50+ yards THROUGH THE AIR multiple times, right on the money for TDs. He’s one of the best red zone QBs, he has the highest qbr in the league, he has the most TDs during the weeks he played, one of the best TD-INT ratios in the league. What else do you want him to do? I been watching football since 1957. Saw the shotgun invented by the Niners; the "Alley Op" passes on black and white TV. Seen a lot of football and a lot of quarterbacks in my time. I can tell when a QB has it and when he doesn't. Lance does not have it. He has trouble with the lay ups and that is a killer since the name of the game is keep the ball moving forward. I no longer have expectations of him being a starting QB.

He was actually making the lay ups in this game tho. That wasn’t the issue in this game. The problem is the game is simply too fast for him right now. He was holding on to the ball too long and not making the right reads or seeing the field. I chunk that up to a lack of reps. He desperately needed them his rookie year and never got them. Then he only plays 1 game and a half before he gets injured his 2nd year. I know ppl think that’s an excuse but I think that’s the biggest issue. He hasn’t played a full season of football since what 2019-2020 season. That’s 2 full years of months of no football. Started a total of 4 games within that time frame too. That’s bad for development. 49ers drafting him now was probably the worst team he could possibly go to. Their in win now mode and don’t have the patience to develop a raw QB such as Trey. Don’t know what the hell Kyle and Lynch were thinking. Best thing to do is to send him to a team rebuilding and let him flourish there.

I don't get how there could be any question at quarterback for the 49ers, Brock Purdy already showed us everything we needed to see. Sure, he was throwing to a top-notch skill group so Deebo, Kittle, and the rest get a good amount of credit, but even taking that into account Purdy was kicking ass from when he got his first start to the moment he got knocked out of the NFC championship. He had poise, accuracy, the ability to actually throw a deep ball, and he wasn't a statue in the pocket either. Even if he's already most of the way to his celling, that's still plenty good enough for the 49ers to win a super bowl.

Entering the pre-season, Lance had an uphill battle. He's competing with Purdy who has an actually good resume last season. Lance got hurt before having any real chance to show what he's got, Jimmy G. actually abruptly came in and did well covering things, then got hurt. Then Purdy came in out of nowhere and played well in 9 regular season games to include making it to the NFC championship. Feel bad for Lance, though. Just simply never had the chance to truly play games due to crazy circumstances. 3rd year guy, sure, but on field experience as a QB isn't there, and we have seen so little. The team is built to win now and it can't afford to give time to develop a QB. Most especially now since Purdy has that resume I mentioned and proven himself. The first game of the 49ers this season is over and he showed why it was the right move to have him be the starter. I'm sure Lance is glad to be gone from S.F. but Dallas isn't any better. Prescott is over there. I highly, highly doubt Dak is going to play to such a bad level that he's going to lose his starting job there to Lance. Unless Dak goes down to a big injury, Lance isn't going to get the playtime he needs in Big D.

The untrained eye wouldn’t be able to pick up on it, and even though it’s somewhat of a nitpick, it does matter when you are competing for a starting job against a QB in whom you have an advantage over in that skill department, and that skill isn’t living up to its full potential.

I want to start by saying it wasn’t a good day for Lance. I also think the O Line was a problem. I don’t understand the play call on the TD that was nearly a pick. Just watching this game you can tell Lance struggle scrambling or bootlegging to the left. There are like 3-4 plays it happens. He needs to readjust his footing, otherwise he won’t get enough velocity to throw it between two defenders. A bootleg to that side and his first read in the middle of the field? You’d think they would have better packages in the red zone.

I’m a niner fan, and I will give my hot take: Lance drafted higher because of racial quotas(BLM); he wasn’t good enough to be a 3rd pick at all, no matter the college video footage, and it showed the minute he stepped into a game and all the sports analists were like “what was that? Wasn’t he the 3rd pick overall??”. He got really unlucky with the injury, but still when he suited up he showed he was too green to be the”franchise QB” of a team that is known for having competent if not HOF quarterbacks all the time. I hope he can have a decent career after all and a reasonable reboot in Dallas; but he was a bad choice and Shanahan once again displayed his tone deaf attitude and went for the numbers rather than paying attention to the player context

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. The NFL is not Pop Warner. Why should I hang on to a guy I thought was going to be my number 1 inside two seasons then I find out he needs three years to be developed? This is especially true when I got another guy who surprisingly is ready to go right now. Was it a fluke? Yeah but some flukes are good and some are bad. It is what it is.

Watching this and comparing to the Niner offense now. The offense was extremely basic when Trey played. It’s clear Brock can handle about 10 times the complexity that Trey could handle. And Shanahan trusts Brock with the entire offensive playbook which is important, and Brock has proven himself worthy of that trust. Trey just couldn’t get it done.

Yeah Lance didn't do great but I still wanna see Purdy in action for a drive or two in the preseason. It's an awfully big assumption that he's gonna be the same. People just assume he's not going to pull a Tua from the Dolphins. He has not been very good in training camp and has thrown a bunch of picks. Yeah, I get that Niners QB's don't tend to do the greatest in training compared to game time and he has been going against the starting defense, but still, people are counting their chickens before they hatch. Can we wait a couple more games before we label him "the real deal"?

Not saying it's worth doing a video on it but the Giants UDFA Tommy DeVito easily outplayed career backup Nate Sudfeld in the Lions game even with inferior talent around him - especially the offensive line. Tyrod Taylor has been incredibly unreliable as the backup for the Giants and his very short series against the Lions Monday was the first time as a Giant one of his drives didn't end with a turnover or being injured - he was 3/4 for 7 yards. I'm not trying to pump up DeVito as this year's Brock Purdy but there is a good chance he gets snaps as a backup or even as a starter this season if Daniel Jones goes down so that's something you may want to keep an eye on.

@@Daniel70324 Wouldn't call it great. He looked competent against 2nd and 3rd stringers with a lot of pressure in his face. Hard to know how it translates but it looks like he's NFL caliber. Wouldn't mind if he turned into Jeff Hostetler but I'd settle for an okay backup.

Tons of people were harsh on him yesterday including me as well. I take back what I said. The o-line plays were awful given that those were backups who might not even see the field this season. To be fair, Purdy did indeed play with the likes of Kittle, Aiyuk, Deebo, Jauan Jennings, and CMC. None of them were on the field to accommodate Lance. If they were on the field and Lance still couldn't deliver to them, then yeah we have a huge concern that must be addressed relating to Lance.

With what so far 10 picks in training camp and including joint practices ( 4 picks from the same team Trey played against) wouldn’t you or a head coach be worried of the hits Brock is gonna take? Or how his arm or body would react to those hits? Game speed timing or how about working on those picks or not being in position for dropped picks to happen? First, we DO know who the starter is, it is Purdy, that’s exactly why Lance is starting this game instead of Purdy, Shanahan is trying to determine back up spot between Lance and Darnold, and this game showed it most likely will be Darnold. Can Lance make some plays? Of course, he is a football quarterback, but as you say yourself, how can anyone believe this is a good performance by Lance. As far as the play Lance makes that you think Purdy wouldn’t, did you watch the 49ers last season? Purdy , makes those plays, and he has the accuracy as well. I think Lance has two more pre seasons games to make his case, but so far, it doesn’t look encouraging.
