Ok the theory that people aren't just falling completely randomly into the backrooms, and that their electromagnetic-wave-generating technology is messing with the interference given off by the portal opening and causing them to fall in, is actually a genius idea. Literally creating null zones on accident.

Can be debunked tho On Found Footage #2, the girl throws wood chips and a baseball into the back rooms, and almost certainly more things before getting her camera nearby. And no, it's not because she "opened" it with an EM device so subsequent things could be thrown inside, otherwise, the car that noclipped in would've made every single car to travel that lane to eventually noclip too

@thescottishwookie7999
@thescottishwookie7999 Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, that wouldn't explain why they are infecting people and attempting to impersonate them, The Thing style. My guess is that they're neither a "Virus" nor an "Anti-Cheat", but a scrapped "Enemy Mob" that was supposed to conflict with humans and counter them, in a sense. A mob AI that would evolve non-stop in an effort to infect whatever it came into contact with, and thus give Humans an incentive to evolve further in order to combat them, and exterminate them, but were ultimately too dangerous to other living beings that didn't have the advantages that Humans have. Since these "mobs" were based on Bacteria, my guess is that the backrooms is meant to keep them alongside all of the other "cut content", but since they are "AI", they wandered and evolved in the Backrooms.

the electromagnetism theory here actually has a lot of weight, imo. The term that came to mind was "destructive interference"; that is, when waves of opposing frequency interact their magnitudes cancel each other as he pointed out. However, the "null zones" that are referred to are *physical* and this raises the question again: how were the backrooms created? They definitely seem procedural, and these "null zones" point to some governing variables behind the way they generate. Perhaps the universal variables that dictate the universe are also a seed of sorts for the backrooms. EM frequency somehow dictates the 3-dimensional space of the rooms at a static point in time, and matching EM frequency and spacial position in the real world "softens" the barrier by destructive interference to such an extent that it fuzzes the simulation's interpretations and pushes things through the threshold. This also points towards some worthwhile experiments. Destructive interference only nullifies both signals fully when the signals are of the same frequency and out of phase by half of a wavelength. Amplitude, however, must also match to perfectly nullify a signal. This begs the question- by what accuracy does the simulation float variables? How precise must a signal be before mistakes are made? This also could mean that destructive interference need not be perfect as well, since if the threshold isn't perfectly sustained then a small window of any other close-to-perfect frequency could eventually nullify the signal enough to break the barrier. This is especially dangerous, since the degrees of freedom for accepting an EM signal as a free ticket to the backrooms increases and the number of combinations likewise increases by orders of magnitude. TLDR: Assuming EM waves are cause for people falling into the backrooms and the simulation theory holds water, the less accurate the simulation is, the more likely any signal is to cause the "clipping" to occur. The connection to a universal variable may also make predicting the layout of the backrooms a possibility. I really wish that Kane's ideas warranted a full on original series off platform, because the amount of creativity on display here is truly worth the attention. Hope he has a long a fulfilling career, and the boundaries of conventional horror keep being pushed in unique directions like this.

I wasn't even all too confident in my understanding of the material, but it doesn't stop it from being fascinating. If you want a good look at how constructive and destructive interference works practically, I'd suggest starting by looking up the "double slit experiment". Even with visible light, splitting EM waves can cause a structured pattern of nullification and amplification causing a visible "shutter" pattern to appear, even when only two opening are present.

An idea that i just thought of: the backrooms have Infinite space and therefore infinite mass. An object with infinite mass can theoretically time travel as it bends spacetime which explains the time difference. This would also explain why people fall into the backrooms as space folds in on its self.

But an object with infinite mass and infinite space, what’s it’s density? We see in the backrooms that everyone is being pulled, well down. At least that’s what it seems like. If gravity works how it’s supposed to in the Backrooms, then the concentration of mass increases the further down you go and lesser upwards because if both had equal amounts the gravitational force from both sides would cancel out. It’s a wonder how the Backrooms hasn’t collapsed under it’s own weight yet. But the more probable explanation is gravity is also warped. Considering time is heavily linked to space which are both linked to gravity, the distortion of time likely means the Backrooms doesn’t have gravity in the same way we do.

The null zone being created by EM waves seems plausible to me. Remember, all of us interact with other objects that have mass with EM force, the electrons in the atoms of our body repelling the electrons in the atoms of, say a chair. If you were able to perfectly negate this force, you'd merge/fuse with the chair. Obviously impossible irl but could happen with a few glitches here and there. Great theory Mat!

I wish The Backrooms had a point where they explored an impossible intersection, which would compound the video game map theory. The one example I can think of was in the game Marathon, in a custom map where the devs decided to play with a part of their engine that had a glitch where you could have one hallway pass through another without either hallway seeing each other. I’ll try to explain with words, but imagine you’ve made a figure-8 map of a continuous hall. Of course and the center, the path would cross itself at an intersection. Now imagine a race car track of the same layout. You’d have to elevate one of the crossovers or else risk collision. This map took the idea of the continuous track, but *never elevated* the other hallway. To the player, there were no intersecting halls, just one long continuous hallway. It was only when you jumped back out to the map view that you could see the figure-8 configuration. What was really wild was that this was a PvP arena, so a friend and I wandered off in two separate directions, watching the map as we went. When we both arrived at the same X,Y coordinates, we couldn’t see each other. We were both in the same spot, but couldn’t see each other. As you can imagine, it was kind of a fun map because there were no corners to hide behind, you simply had to chase your opponent endlessly in an attempt to get them within range.

I'm a programmer & when I heard nullZones, I thought of null in the programming sense (something being defined as empty). For the most part, it seems the backrooms are indeed empty (of people). Plus that'd fit with the whole "no clip" concept which stems from video game programming. Definitely think the scientific definition of null also makes sense though (cancellation of 2 opposites)! Wondering if Kane Pixels thought of both definitions when he used that term...?

Another point about the questionable timeline - Kane used to have all his Backrooms videos in a playlist organized in chronological order according to the dates in the video descriptions. This order had his first video, "The Backrooms Found Footage," at the end of the playlist. But I noticed after he uploaded "Presentation" that the playlist has been rearranged to follow what I think is order of release - "The Backrooms Found Footage" is now at the beginning. With the time distortions proposed in this theory, that rearranging might (or might not) mean something about the accuracy of the official timeline. Whatever the case, it looks like from now on, theorists will have to keep track of the timeline ourselves..

Something to note about the theory that this reality is a simulated game: What are the coincidental chances of some guy who got separated through time manipulation being slung so perfectly forward in time as to interrupt a *VERY* important meeting between A-Sync and the US government? That really seems like a stretch, especially when you consider that something that created the world wouldn't want people noclipping into what is essentially debug and testing rooms in ways that would make its game start breaking.

A theory: The backrooms, being the unused assets of the universe, is somehow outside of space-time or the flow of time is being manipulated in or around the backrooms. Information such as radiowaves and sound waves from all across time is “trapped” in the backrooms because of the noclipping effect. I don’t know if this means that you could be walking around the backrooms and a gamma ray burst from a star would just appear in front of you. Properties of electromagnetic waves could also be different in “real life” and the backrooms so I have a small doubt about the null effect causing the noclipping (although there is much more evidence to support that theory). This could be why we get transmissions from the future.

When you mentioned the null zones, specifically the part about the EM waves of reality matching with the EM waves of the backrooms, creating a seamless gate or portal between the two, it just made that theory seem all the more likely. idk, food for thought

In video games(especially older FPS games), a Null Zone is a space in which is outside of an additive-bsp style map. Which the player accidentally accesses by reaching "leaks" in the geometry. In games that use additive bsp maps(Quake, Half-life, in comparison to subtractive bsp maps like Unreal), there are spots where if the geometry does not meet up properly, you get "leaks" where the light can bounce outside of the world geometry(bsp brushes) and go out into the null zone. A player can also fall through the missing geometry and essentially fall forever(or loop from bottom to top). I think this is where he gets this from, although scientifically, it makes sense too.

@@lolko7090 no he said what if they were driving on a spot were the waves canceled each other off (paraphrasing he didn't say driving he said moving over) I mean both are theories but then there would be more people clipping through with cars than people just walking or standing/sitting/sleeping anywhere, because a car driving would cover more ground, so if there is a spot where the waves cancel each other out, everything passing through there would clip, which means more cars than people, same if a type of car would do that. On the other hand if its a spot in both time and space, it might be more plausible. I see it more making sense if the car somehow randomly affected the spot, or again it was not just a point in space but also time.

When I was younger I used to have a fear of being alone, and whenever I would go into a city with parking garages (or whatever they’re called) I would get scared, so if I was walking on the sidewalk at night and saw a dark ally way, boom instantaneous fear, walked past an underground chained up parking lot, boom terrified, and the back rooms were my biggest fear, an empty, quite, disturbing place, if someone know what this fear is called please tell me, and if anyone understands me please tell me your experience with this fear, sometimes I even thought there were monster in there, for underground parking I always thought their was some scary tree monster that had root like tentacles and that’s why the parking garage were always locked to keep the monsters trapped

Hey! I may have an idea for the "Null Zone". In some video games, there is no boundary or skybox (generally its more common with skyboxes than boundaries). So, you can technically go on infinitely upwards or downwards. The more you go, the more degraded the game gets, i.e, more jittery, more unstable, and you keep going until the numbers get too high and it gets so degraded that your game crashes. Where the degradation begins, is called a "Null Zone" in some games. My theory, is that the more you go down in the backrooms, the more distorted and broken things get. This would fit the theme of video games and going outside the boundaries. P.S, Aeraki#9214

Yes, a Null Zone is a space in which is outside of an additive-bsp style map. Which the player accidentally accesses by reaching "leaks" in the geometry.

It's not that the computer "doesn't know". "null" means nothing, literally. You can have a variable called "job" and assign it values like "Janitor", "Electrician", or null (nothing, AKA no job)

@@sarkos2003 Yeah what I meant is that the information in question doesn't exist. I realize that "doesn't know" was a weird and kinda confusing way of putting that. But also, correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't no job be stored as 'Unemployed' or something along those lines? Because null isn't zero, it's null, nothing, no data here. The computer has information on this persons job.

I have a theory the videos are already in order based off your time theory where null zones create a rift in time so if one person no clips on one side of the null zone passing through it will teleport(I cant think of another word)them to the past so therefor the videos are in order and anytime we see glimpses of the future/past or just freeze time while the cameras are still in sync with the world but the people are not so all the dates are invalid as people no clip into the backrooms which would explain the time differences. So what im trying to say is The null zones based off the time a person entered the backrooms glimpse them to the past/future for a second. So time is frozen except for the time a person enters null zone which give them glimpses of the future/past

the idea that the backrooms would mess with time in some way makes a lot of sense, people have always thought the simpsons could tell the future in their episodes so that might be why that was the show clip chosen

I have a theory, you said the plot of the book “the yellow wallpaper” which has a woman who tries to free another woman trapped in the walls and then becoming her. The entities try to free your soul and end up “becoming you” by infecting you. The backrooms aren’t the scrapped or unimportant ideas in the AI, it’s the AI’s attempt to trap the entities by no-clipping them into “the yellow wallaper” style rooms. But I don’t think the entities are actually just entities that spawned there, they were people. Let’s make an analogy; let’s say people are like grains of sand in a sifter(the sifter being the 3 dimensional plane in-between the backrooms and the real world) whenever a rock gets too small, it becomes sand and falls through the sifter. But I think that “getting too small” correlates to the early stages of getting infected and becoming an entity, therefor trapping the hosts into the backrooms and the older entities “help” the hosts because they’re undistinguishable from a normal person. This is the act of getting trapped in a room and becoming an entity. PLEASE make sure he sees this

I know no one big will see this, but I want to respond MatPat’s theory (just for fun I guess). I personally think that the backrooms aren’t video games, but they are programmed, so that is why there are all of those flaws that are in video games. So it isn’t something big like the world is a simulation, but it shows us there is someone (or something) that can “program” the backrooms (just like programming a game, like writing its code). This means that person, persons, or force can control the “code” of the backrooms, or had/could have control the “code” of the backrooms. That force is still unknown, and I don’t think guessing is safe to say now, but at the moment that is besides the point. Now about the book and the entities. I think the entities might either be people who no-clipped, Async workers, or anyone else whom no-clipped, worked at, or visited the backrooms. I think it all goes down to the book. The people were stuck in the backrooms, went crazy or insane, and slowly became indefinite or definite entities of the backrooms. After so, the entities try escape the backrooms by finding new “Null-Zones” which they can no-clip back to reality by. This is why in “Backrooms - found footage” the camera no-clips back to reality. This can also rely on what MatPat is saying in 14:44. I think the glitched reality will be the concept that will be the backbone of the backrooms from now on. But that’s just my theory. No one really asked but it was fun to write, I hope you enjoyed reading it too.
