While we’re on ancient mythologies, the backrooms have always reminded me a lot of the labyrinth from Greek mythology. An ever changing almost alive place known to be next to impossible to not get endlessly lost in. I could even see where the bacteria monster could be a parallel to the Minotaur .

So that would mean the backrooms were BUILT to contain the bacteria monster. So who built it and what is their connection to the monster?

You might be on to something, my friend, that the backrooms are like the labyrinth. Considering, so far, we haven't seen the bacteria monster able to leave the backrooms and that whenever someone goes in there, that isn't a part of A Sync, always get lost and never can find the way back to where they no-clipped in. Like Siriuslymentalhatone said, does that mean the backrooms were built and if so, why did these people (or whatever they are), I'm assuming, create the bacteria monster or have a connection with it in the first place?

@@siriuslymentalthatone2528 matpat made a thoery that the bacteria monster was actually a normal bacteria but got stuck and came into the backrooms when it was opened, so I doubt the bacteria monster was a bacteria monster in the beggining and the backrooms was made to lock it in, but it's your choice to believe it or not

Just a small suggestion for anyone wanting to keep following this theory: look for feather imagery. A significant part of ancient Egyptian afterlife lore is the idea of weighing a person's sins against a feather, with paradise reserved for those whose sins don't exceed its weight. Similarly, look for scales. Without one or both of these elements, I gotta side with Matpat
@PeterEmrys2 жыл бұрын
same, without any of the elements that distinguish the Duat from other "otherworldly" settings, like anything about the heart weighing, or sun imagery for the journey of Ra, or a snake for Apophis, there just isn't enough for the theory to stand up.
@nachgeben2 жыл бұрын
Feather imagery is only important for certain ancient gods. The "feathers" you see often are actually reeds. Plants found on the edge of the Nile.
@viktoria_pikovsky2 жыл бұрын
I would add up another element to it- the monster named Ammit. It has the head of a crocodile, front body of a lion, and a back body of a hippo, and it eats the souls of those who's heart (oh, and btw the heart of the person was weighted against the feather, not purely their sins) outweighed the feather of truth. Ammit was an essential part of the judgment ritual, as it was the punishment for all the sinners in the form of eating them right then and there for all their sins.

I feel like an important point about the doors was missed. MatPat pointed out the "false" in false doors in Egyptian tombs and dismissed the connection to the Async door due to its functionality. But I think there's a good point to be made when you take into account the purpose of false doors. Yes these doors aren't real or functional, but the intent is that they are actual doors between worlds, allowing access from one to the other. And I don't know about you but that sounds to me like a perfect match for the door into the backrooms at the Async facility.

As a person who studies ancient Egypt, KV31 immediately caught my attention as a Valley of the Kings tomb, but when I checked and found that it was just a random mostly empty tomb, I just chalked it up to coincidence and moved on. Nothing so far has rung any "This is definitely drawing on ancient Egypt" bells for me. If Kane Pixels had intended the Backrooms to be the Duat, I would have expected some of the more uniquely Egyptian stuff, like some form of judgement to reference the weighing of the heart, or sun or boat imagery to connect it to the nightly journey of Ra, or a snake to represent Apophis.

That's just the thing that makes the most sense to me, except the idea of being led in by a Will o' The Wisp or any such corollary is missing. It might just be how in ancient stories the powers were personified and had some kind of personality that, even if said personality couldn't be understood, at least the moods of it could be recognized as human or human like. Aliens on the other hand are inscrutable to most who have said to encounter them. In this it's taken on another form and incorporated Gamer logic into it, with no "guide" or abductor involved at all, you just take a wrong step and boom, you just no-clipped into a developer area of the map. Have fun with the creatures roaming the halls. I mean, the thing that makes more sense than the Field of Reeds of Ancient Egyptian myths is, as someone else has stated, the Labyrinth of Minos with the Minotaur as the deadly creature prowling it's halls, ready to rend apart any who are unfortunate enough to find themselves there. I'm pretty sure you didn't just randomly pop in there. I'm positive that the King of Minos put criminals and traitors in there to be ripped apart by the abomination. There's more but I won't bore anybody who doesn't want the details. Suffice it to say, the only parallel I can draw from it is that a Kings' wrath (which may have been arbitrary and unfair) has been replaced with just random chance. No Kings, Gods or other powers, just random chance. I think it comes from many peoples' estrangement from religion in general and is relatable to modern people, especially gamers, who have experienced this in their favorite (or most hated) game and probably think it's a cool, modern "fairy tale" or urban legend, creepy pasta, etc. So, in short, I think that yes, it's just a modern take on the tales of old in which people, for some unknown and unexplainable reason, have found themselves in a familiar yet eerie and hostile world in which there is most likely no coming back from. Whether it's the Labyrinth, the Lands of the Fey or the Backrooms, it's basically the same idea with a different coat of paint.

On a similar note, is "The Backrooms" even the same for all or any given human today? The dilapidated and haphazardly organised office aesthetic is by far not universal as a standard of mundanity among humans alive today. Not even in North America, Europe, or East Asia would it be consistent. The more common "office building" or "institutional building" (like a government building or school) I'm familiar with would be a combination of brick, stone masonry, and cast concrete, with wood panelled partition walls and largely exposed wood or steel support beams depending on when it was made or how large the initial project of addition was. Even then, I rarely am in office buildings so they would not be "mundane" for me. So then, would different regions of the Backrooms be different according to their corresponding geographies or vary by the human who gets caught up in them? Also, if the walls of this entire structure is made of gyprock (like a "typical" modern office building), then why hasn't anyone just punched and kicked their way through in a straight line until the get out another side?

I find the backrooms so interesting because of how it represents the human condition in our modern, mundane, urbanized world. It’s a dream-like manifestation of the loneliness we feel in a “rational” society that values efficiency and reason over passion and creativity. The endless halls of yellow wallpaper and fluorescent lights reminiscent of an ordinary office building. The Backrooms are a prison not unlike the prison that an office building is or a school is or a hospital or any institution in the western world. It’s a prison that we have created to constrain individuality. Maybe the monster represents authority, it mimicking a human like the way authorities pretend they are helping you, like how they have justified your 9-5 workday or school day as being rational and necessary and for the benefit of all. But in reality they are bacteria, parasites that are always watching, enforcing, driving the paranoia, keeping you running endlessly through the yellow labyrinth of a rational society with no escape.

I definitely read it very similarly, but to me the bacteria creatures feel a lot more like they're our fellow man, just twisted beyond recognition. It's kind of the idea that we're all alone in this corporate hellscape thing and anyone/anything else we encounter, we can't even read it as human. We can't communicate with each other. Even people that travel in groups can get torn apart in the blink of an eye. Really goes heavy on the themes of isolation! (Fellow English nerd here to appreciate you)

Something that these kinds of communities do, they can't separate inspiration from allegory. It's entirely possible that the backrooms were inspired by egyptian tombs... And that's it. The backrooms aren't necessarily some allegory for egyptian tomb raiding and pharoahs' curses or whatever. They're creepy but cool underground tombs with cool naming schemes and interesting architectural designs. The Backrooms clearly wants to be its own thing. If it draws on inspiration from real life, that doesn't make them one in the same, just masked through layers of allegory and storytelling, it just means that art imitates life.

The backrooms simply draw upon the uncanny valley, the side of it that has things you can recognize but not understand, (opposite to uncanny things we understand but appear to be senseless or out of place) The term backrooms is from 2017 i believe (4chan) but the actual sharing of empty forgotten places like offices, factories and such were shared around the internet under the universal term uncanny as early as at least 2003 (had my first (private use) pc in 2001 then my first with internet in 2003) and uncanny scenes have always been an obsession to many humans I used to find backroom* (uncanny places) as well as what we now collectively classify as cursed or blursed images on all kinds of forums and irc's back in the day. Used to find most when checking archives (it used to be normal for people to have some directory open for people to peek in) some still exist to this day but they arent as interesting as the early 2000s. What people seem to have lost grasp to these days, is that the meaning to a word almost always predates the word coined to it, a word is coined when enough people recognize a specific understanding.

I got a theory. About no-clipping. You have said in many other videos regarding the backrooms That the world is a simulation broken when Async got acess to the backrooms. Well, what if the no-clip into the backrooms thing is that the world/simulation has as a anti-virus program or something like that who teleports you to the backrooms and not into an endless void beneath the intire world. Thats proably why you can see there is a split second of darkness before a no-clipping occurs in a Kane pixels video. Its a programmed safe-lock that prevents you from glitching the simulation out too much and harming it. So you get teleported to the backrooms instead of the real world so you can't break the world/simulation too much and potetially crashing it... But hey! It's just a Theory, A backrooms theory! Thanks for reading my comment!

Here's my theory: The backrooms isn't actually another dimension. I think it exists directly parallel to our own reality. The KV-31 project saw researchers using magnetic distortion to manipulate reality. What ACTUALLY seems to have happened is different. I believe a hole was torn to a vacant space. A space BETWEEN realities. A place that had no form, an empty void. Notice that I say HAD no form. The thing about holes is that things tend to fall into them. The very moment the first threshold was torn open reality came flooding into a previously empty space. What we see is a vacuum filled so fast that things weren't given time to settle. After all if you open the airlock on a wooden chair it's not likely to hold it's shape. And so too is it within the backrooms. So you have an unstable reality that's just been born. What happens next? Well it's a hole. What happens when you continue interacting with an already torn hole? You guessed it! It tears open even wider than before. Just as objects warp when entering the backrooms, so do living things. Humans have a lot of parts. So does a car. You know something so small that warping it slightly changes the whole structure? Bacteria, viruses, and mold. The people who enter have so many parts that as a whole being slightly changed or warped through time has little effect. As for those small things brought with them? Not so much. For some the bacteria/mold on their person could mutate eating away at them until they're a mummified mess. Others may just bring a little too much pollen in with them. Ever find it odd that A-Sync has it's employees wear full on hazmat suits into the backrooms? Well I think you should. There is zero reason to expect diseases or hazardous discovered reality. Unless what you're worried about is what you're bringing in with you... Lastly the girl. The one from found footage #2. At the end the lights we see are rather reminiscent of the effects used when the first door was being opened. I think what's happening here is a new door being opened. A alternate universe A-Sync is opening THEIR first door. Or perhaps time is bending here and this IS the first door being opened? Who knows.

After they end up finding them again, the aliens consider destroying them until Picard explains that humans love mysteries, and the first time around they'd made the mistake of leaving too many things that the crew would immediately suspect as being unusual, meaning they'd feel compelled to find out why.

I preferred when it was just a liminal space that vaguely implied there might be a monster. However, I have watched every one of these videos out of curiosity. Why? Since the back rooms might be set in a different reality, it’s possible to link another popular horror story fandom thing, SCP, to ASYNC. For example, in this reality, SCP took the form of ASYNC and instead of containing SCPs like the way we know, they contain them in a place where they literally can’t escape. Each level of the back rooms is a containment cell for each SCP, or multiple SCPs can be stored in one level. The random stuff like the signs in the house and the rope, could also be SCPs since we know that there are SCPs that look seemingly normal but have something behind them ( for example the pill bottle that can cure any disease ) People nocliping into the back rooms is a mistake made by ASYNC, however they don’t really care as they know they have to do whatever it takes to defend earth against SCPs
@h.m.tolympic46692 жыл бұрын
The backrooms may be similar to that one SCP. You know the milk cartons with the missing children who disappeared when they fell into shadows? People from all over the world and everywhere in the history and future of the world could all be jammed into one space, which may be why nobody seems to notice so many people disappearing.
@obsidiandave75662 жыл бұрын
Personal theory: I think the backrooms is the minotaurs labyrinth from Greek mythology. Just because it fits so perfectly with the native story. I think the backrooms are leaking into reality due to how in Greek mythology the labyrinth was a huge super structure of endless hall ways and corners with seemingly no exit thus no entrance which is why you will need to open the door to the labyrinth but I assume if the door is open for to long the door expands and makes gaps in reality that objects can no-clip through. The bacteria is the minotaur due to how if people back in those days could see the bacteria they will make a guess of what they are looking at which is a man with a bulls head. And lastly to fit with mats theory, what if the creator of the labyrinth didn't build it but rather program it? Let me know what u think about this. If mat sees this I so Wana see your opinion about this.

You think this about the Kane Pixels series or the original backrooms? And are you saying the 2 are the same or that Kane’s direction is inspired by the labyrinth?
@davidhong19342 жыл бұрын
I've always seen the Backrooms as the result of an algorithm that duplicates rooms. Specifically: - input a model of a given room - generate a random number representing the total number of rooms to create - create an empty linked list - fill linked list with, each ssigned an arbitrary number of attributes and connections, with the connections dependant on the total number of rooms For the most part, the algorithm peforms as intended. However, it was also only intended for the original yellow wallpaper room, which was the simplest possible definition of a room. It was not intended to handle things like props or furniture. I think that's what went wrong with the chairs. The algorithm took in an object and tried to treat it as a "room". No matter how much it stretched and pulled, the chair wouldn't become a room. Eventually, it threw an error and moved on.

I mean, when it comes to theories like this Backrooms=Ancient Egypt the thing that I always think is, "So what?" It's all good and well if these parallels exist, but in terms of storytelling, if that's the start and end of it, why does it matter? So there are parallels. What does that say about the story that the creator is trying to say? What does it say about the setting? Is this foreshadowing? Can we gain more insight into the nature of what's going on through this connection? What can we learn from this? So if I came across this theory on my own, I probably wouldn't think much of it either. Because other than a surface level connection, what else is there to this? It's cool and fun and neat and all. But if there's no more deeper meaning or insight we can gain from it, I don't put much stock in it. You know. What's the point and all. It's also why the vast majority of "The main character is dead!" or "This series is a drug trip!" theories don't appeal to me. There's nothing else behind the "So what?" other than sheer edge. And I don't find being edgy for the sake of being edgy to be very interesting nor enlightening. Now if this Backrooms was paralleling specific Egyptian myths or practices that could tell us more about the origins of the Backrooms, how, and why they exist, and to bring a greater meaning or something to find in all of this... Now THAT would be much better!

And the backrooms being like a tomb of itself with twisting cooridoors just like a tomb is said to have to confuse intruders and even traps and "monsters" in myth my question is, why CAN'T it be inspired to be like that? because HE said so? because to him it's too far fetched as he makes Sans is Ness, Mario is a phyco (i mean he might be lol) but for every stretched out theory, and his latest one of FNAF mind you saying Golden freddy never existed even though Scott MADE IT CLEAR that the books even if they have some puzzle pieces to the game it's not correlated 100% either so the whole "book about how an indie dev creator is forced to make a game and is hypnotized by a disc" Doesn't 100% fit well into the theory of the Games being just that yes there's FNAF VR but how does that explain Security Breach? not only that in FNAF VR no one was pushed to be apart of the developing team, the only messed up one was Jeremy because of Glitch trap, There are no hints besides "by a mad man who made indie games" with a picture of scott it felt like more like a self own then saying "nah none of this actually happened." And how would a person know, legit, of a family name of Aftons and that still connecting to Security breach? that the afton family in a sense with a horrible version of spring trap how could someone of a dev make pretend characters, only for them to be true? so for someone who claims this is too far landish likes to say things don't exist anymore because of a book that isn't 100% connected to the main game series....

@@savageratentertainment I don't really see why MatPat can't put out a video explaining why he believes a theory may be wrong. Theories that were later proven incorrect have existed all throughout history, the first theory regarding elements believed water to be the the main component of everything, and nowadays we know water isn't even an element. You're also ignoring the fact that he has publicly said he doesn't believe all the theories he makes, and even said he dislikes the "Golden Freddy doesn't exist" one, that he's just putting it out there for discussion. I don't get why everyone gets to criticize and berate him when he gets theories wrong, yet when he disproves a theory, everyone starts defending said theory. FNAF is also a terrible example. Everyone in the fandom has stretched anything elastic in it because otherwise it's impossible to make a cohesive theory out of it. In fact, of all people, he has the most right to talk about theories stretched too far, because he has been in that position multiple times, and his situation is even worse because he has actually been harassed over it, something that the people whose theory he's disproving won't (or hopefully will not) ever experience. Theories are made to reason something, and anyone is welcomed to disprove them if they can, even the biggest lunatics out there.

Some other connections I can think of: - The A-Sync logo looks like a pyramid - Just like how KV31 designates one specific tomb, it could also be the designation for one specific entrance to the backrooms. - Tombs are more common than we think. They could be anywhere, like that guy's backyard. And there could be many more tombs that haven't been discovered. Just like entrances to the backrooms, they can appear anywhere and there is no real way to know where they are, or when they will appear. People accidentaly stumble into them. - And also, just like how desecrating a tomb would get you cursed, perhaps the backrooms cursed our reality when A-Sync started with KV31, hence why a lot of people started disappearing into it and why they seem to die of the mold infection when they spend too much time in it.

So, I sort of thought the connection between the backrooms and Egypt was that the Egyptians believed that you were only truly dead once everyone who is still alive forgets you existed, and there's this one theory I heard that the backrooms are where forgotten things go. Also, archeologists putting up a metal gate so that looters wouldn't steal anything, and Async wanting an enclosed space around their portal so that it would be more secure is just standard protocol.

It has always been like this, sadly. Adding lore to something usually takes away the scariness of it. The first Kane Pixels backrooms video was creepy and fascinating because it was centered around a real human, with human reactions (like saying "this isn't real, this isn't real" whenever he found something absurd) and mannerisms (like the camera movement). It gave us an accurate perspective of a person lost inside an insane place. Now we have humans in hazmat suits with high technologic equipment exploring said insane place. It hardly feels eerie anymore, and being eerie was the backrooms whole thing. Adding lore is great for storytelling, but terrible for uncanniness. It literally means ending the mystery.

I think I wanna view this entire theory, more as a neat symbolic parallel, rather then something that majorly changes the story... Having these cool parallels to already kinda similar concepts is just something fun for fans to spot... Example: In "The Matrix" (1999), number of Neo's room is 101, a reference to Room 101, from infamous book "1984" that, like Matrix, is about a man against an unfair despotic system that uses lies and deception as it's main weapon. Even the soul purpose of the said room in the novel is to subject prisoners to their worst fear, and brainwash them into submission, topic that's playing major rule in "The Matrix". That Easter egg doesn't prove that these two stories take place in same universe or anything like that. It's just a nice detail creators put in to either honer their inspirations, or further establish theme of the movie,...I think same is happening here.

Grass is a plant with narrow leaves growing from the base. A common kind of grass is used to cover the ground in a lawn and other places. Grass gets water from the roots in the ground. Grasses are monocotyledon, herbaceous plants. The grasses include the "grass", of the family Poaceae (also called Gramineae). Also sometimes it is used to include the sedges (Cyperaceae) and the rushes (Juncaceae). These three families are not closely related but belong to different clades in the order Poales. They are similar adaptations to a common life-style. The true grasses include cereals, bamboo and the grasses of lawns (turf) and grassland. Uses for graminoids include food (as grain, sprouted grain, shoots or rhizomes), drink (beer, whisky), pasture for livestock, thatching thatch, paper, fuel, clothing, insulation, construction, sports turf, basket weaving and many others. Many grasses are short, but some grasses, like bamboo can grow very tall. Plants from the grass family can grow in many places, even if they are very cold or very dry. Several other plants that look similar but are not members of the grass family are also sometimes called grass; these include rushes, reeds, papyrus, and water chestnut. Grasses are an important food for many animals, like deer, buffalo, cattle, mice, grasshoppers, caterpillars, and many other grazers. Unlike other plants, grasses grow from the bottom, so when animals eat grass they usually do not destroy the part that grows. Without grass, dirt can wash away into rivers (erosion). Graminoids include some of the most versatile plant life-forms. They became widespread toward the end of the Cretaceous. Fossilized dinosaur dung (coprolites) have been found containing grass phytoliths (silica stones inside grass leaves). Grasses have adapted to conditions in lush rain forests, dry deserts, cold mountains and even intertidal habitats, and are now the most widespread plant type. Grass is a valuable source of food and energy for many animals. Lawn grass is often planted on sports fields and in the area around a building. Sometimes chemicals and water is used to help lawns to grow. People have used grasses for a long time. People eat parts of grasses. Corn, wheat, barley, oats, rice and millet are cereals, common grains whose seeds are used for food and to make alcohol such as beer. Sugar comes from sugar cane, which is also a plant in the grass family. People have grown grasses as food for farm animals for about 4,000 years. People use bamboo to build houses, fences, furniture and other things. Grass plants can also be used as fuel, to cover roofs, and to weave baskets. In English, the word "grass" appears in several phrases. For example: "The grass is always greener on the other side" means "people are never happy with what they have and want something else." "Don't let the grass grow under your feet" means "Do something". "A snake in the grass" is about a person that will not be honest and will trick others. Grass is sometimes used as a slang term for cannabis (also called pot, weed, or marijuana) Now go touch some grass
