I have an uncle who tried to keep every single toy he ever had and keeps them in a room. The room doesnt look creepy, its actually quite nice. He takes extremely good care of every single one of them and (I'm not embarrassed to say this) even plays with them to this day. He says that he used to believe that toys were alive when he was young. He says he does it for the nostalgia. I give him the toys that I have lost interest in. One issue with this: Mr. Potato Head is the only type of toy we see controlling their own severed body parts. When Buzz's arm falls off, it's dead, devoid of life. Same with Woody's arm in the sequel. There's clearly a center of consciousness for these toys

Keep in mind that the toys can also gain the trust of animals. For example in TS2 when Woody yells gotcha! To Andy's dog he plays along, however when Andy does a similar trick he just gets ignored by him......... Imagine the allies the toys can gain O_O

I was always terrified of the toy story movies as a kid, still am actually 😅. If they did come to life they would probably hate me, let's just put it as I got distracted easily and liked to chew on anything. Over half of my disney princess toys that had that plastic thing in their leg so it could bend ever so slightly ended with it poking out through their chewed ankles :( I didn't want to mistreat my dolls but it was habit as a kid. I also lost all their clothes so they were pretty much all naked. My stuffies I would be more safe from though, love those guys :D

One small problem with the ending. Mr. Potato head taking over a tortilla is an ability exclusive to him and any other potato heads. Buzz and Woody have both lost in arm at some point. From that point, until they were re attached, Buzz and Woody had no control of the arm that they lost. Woody even lost control of it when his arm was only partially ripped off.

A human knowing about the masquerade would be VERY powerful. They could, for example, 'play' with something really powerful/dangerous like a construction vehicle, stick some googly eyes on it somewhere, name it, etc., until it's considered enough of a toy to come to life. Totally agree. When I hold an object I don't have "physical control over it", I can just manipulate it with my hand and fingers. Mr. Potato Head was dragging the tortilla around by his arms and legs, that's why it kept flopping around. He never had direct control over it.

Once, when I was in a really depressed state, I made a really crude drawing of a stuffed bear with a missing button eye, stitched parts, and stuffing falling out and wrote under it "you don't need to be alive to be broken" with a tear under the button eye. Then, after cuddling up and crying with my giant teddy bear (he's like 3 feet tall), I went back, erased the frown and made a smile. I have at least 100 toys and, unfortunately, most are in an old VINTAGE chest in the garage but I remember each and every one of them. Even before I saw this movie, I've always believed my toys were alive in one way or another and that's carried with me through all my toys into my 30's! I literally sleep with 4 stuffed bunnies under my arm, my giant bear sits in a chair next to the bed with my mom-made Raggedy Ann and Raggedy Andy dolls, and a ceramic bisque doll from the 1800's from my great-great-grandmother from France! I don't care what others say; to me, ALL TOYS HAVE SENTIENCE. ❤

This whole thing could be avoided if they would just let humans know they were alive... the creators of the toys don't know they're alive (uh... probably at least) and the kids don't know they're alive. Even toys like Buzz and Forky who didn't think they were toys at first strangely stopped moving when humans were around, to keep it secret. Its ingrained into their very existence, whether it was told to them or not, yet they have the ability to defy that rule if they choose to. (If they ever make a Toy Story 5 I'm seriously hoping for a plot about a human legit finding out about it and having actual conversations with them). And interestingly enough, even the "free" toys like Bo and Woody still need to be played with. They actively go to playgrounds and carnivals so they can get played with by human children, so that means there is _something_ that requires them to be played with somehow, its their driving force. But being on display also counts, if Toy Story 2 is anything to go by. This implies that they need human interaction of some kind... if they go to long without it they could theoretically die. Why else would they dread it so much? They treat it like the worst case scenario (second only to the dump).

Original Buzz had gotten a personality by Andy and Andy's other toys, and getting stuck in another box didn't change that fact. Display Buzz had been on display and had gotten power by the children watching him, but he wasn't truly alive until he was interacted with, even if another Buzz was the one interacting with him. The scene at the end of the movie is non-canon.

Have you read the series The Stuff Of Legend? This series is a perfect example of something similar when it comes to the world of toys. It's similar to toy story but has the pleasure of being almost unlimited in terms of content, which means it's dark, dystopian, and the closest example to toys becoming able to fight for themselves that I know of. It's just different enough to not be a rip off but still really good. I recommend a read. The beginning book is called "The Dark" or "Book 1: The Dark"
