The Reason this is the place to come for many tutorials is the interaction on the view is slow enough that Simons explanations keep pace ( steady or slow enough for me anyway ). the free tutorials are excellent and the added value of the Patreon is very much a piece off added value. I now feel set to make some movies, my photography is good enough for me on Flickr, my video skills fall flat because of buttonology mostly. I now have a few items I feel I can press the buttons on with a level of success. what the video looks like we shall have to see.

Awesome video. Just started experimenting with iPhone filmmaking. It's a great tool to utilize. I actually use it as a pre-visualization tool where I don't need a permit or insurance to go to a location, shoot some quick video, or explore camera angles, and audio ambiance and either take stills or video to send to DP, Production Designer, Audio person, and editor. Technology is moving fast.

As usual a concise and well made video! I watched it even though I decided to no longer use FiLMiC Pro and uninstalled both the iPhone and the Android version. The legacy version does not appeal to me because I've lost any confidence and trust in FiLMiC Pro and its developers. First, they announced outrageous subscription fees (5.49€ per week IIRC), which they later changed multiple times. Then it has been completely unclear, whether they would honour those who previously bought the "old" version. And finally, they changed their data privacy policy and I do object to the excessive amount of data collected for a video app.

well i think the fact they are giving us a stand alone free version is sufficient. i am thankful for that. i dont see any reason to upgrade to 7 or to pay a fee to use something i already paid for outright. i wont be subscribing and i do respect they gave us a version 6 (which i paid for) free of subscriptions and free to download in the future. this is adequate and makes me not curse there names. i would suggest just grab the legacy version and be happy with your purchase. honestly lumafusion and filmic pro are the best photography/film apps you can get on mobile. im here with you and i think we should be grateful that they at least gave us version 6 without the need to upgrade or subscribe. hope you at least use the V6, i mean you paid for it :)

I am unsure if I will continue using Filmic Pro because this weekend I was using the previous incarnation of it just fine, but it must have updated and when I went into it, I was greeted by the new version, which would not let me export any of the footage I had shot in the earlier version. I eventually resolved the issue by downloading the legacy version, but the lack of warning Filmic gave users has more or less soured me on the whole thing. I will keep the legacy version since I paid for that, but I highly doubt that they will be getting anything more from me for the forseeable future. I will instead get a dedicated camera for video work and edit and grade in Resolve, or just go back to Super-8 and 16mm since I work primarily in both formats anyway.

Great job! Nice deep review. That convinced me to never switch back to FilmicPro :)) I use filmic for almost 4 years, but it`s time for a big change. I now prefer to shoot raw videos. The quality is far away instead of any h265 log looks better than iPhone prores. The color grading in post is the best posible, only downside of raw containers is the massive storage... approx. 8GB/min, a 256 device is too undersized but external storage save that issue. Al the best and keep up the good work!

@@ernestacosta2431 The way of working with MotionCam is slightly different from the standard h264/265 codecs, considering that you must process the mcraw containers (preferably in the desktop app for processing speed). workflow is similar to the one from Blackmagic in Davinci Resolve. There is nothing complicated, and the results are impressive, of course as I have the problem of storage space, but for small projects, I fit in the internal 256 GB, but I am considering buying a 2TB T7 HDD for future projects As far as I know, a plugin for Premiere Pro appeared on their website, but I still prefer Davinci, it seems better at raw editing and colorization. Another fine video. I've been familiarizing myself with v 7 for a day or so, and one thing I've noticed is that it's difficult to keep the iso/shutter speed locked. Anytime I make a lens change, or go into a sub menu, (say, WB) the locked feature disengages and iso changes. Also, I've found that there isn't parity between the iPhone 14 Pro native ability to shoot 4K/60, on Filmic it's only available at 1080P. Minor annoyances, but love the look of the new interface.

I am so disappointed that the new company decided to take this approach. They sent me a survey a while back asking about how I felt about a subscription base which I said i was against, but maybe enough people didnt take the survey so they went with it anyway. I think the better approach would be to keep the app free, but make the majority of premium features as paid. If you want basic 1080 or HD shooting you can, but if you want pro level 4K you need to pay, As technology improves and phones adapt more to 8K, and higher, screens and cameras, that is when you just make future releases and updates as part of the subscription. This is just such an awful approach and as more and more app developers become skilled there will be much better options to compete with Filmic in the future. Given the feedback I’ve seen online a lot of people are not happy about this change because they feel something already paid for is now being taken away and will not get future updates. So disappointed but I guess at the end of the day if you are just shooting for fun you wont pay it and find another app, but if you use for business you might consider paying as a business cost.
