Reading some of the comments and realizing about 80% of them didn't pay attention to the video and the information portrayed. This was captured in LOG format, Jerry DIDN'T record his video in LOG format. You're supposed to edit the video afterwards, not use the file as is. The reason he did was to show what the phone CAN do.

I know im 4 years late, but if you want to play with log footage you NEED lg's official log luts from their webpage to fix the colors, otherwise you still get weird colors when you color grade

I have the lg v30 but im experiencing difficulties with voice notes on whats app. I tried literally everything. I even changed the entire phone (warantee) but the problem stayed!!! The problem is when im recording a voice note and there is background noise the quality of the voice note becomes so bad u can barely understand whats being said. Do u have this problem? I wanna know if its a software problems cuz i sent my phone twice now to be fix but they returned it saying there is no problem at all. Keep in mind that when i record an audio using hd recorder there is no problem at all.

Does the LG V30 have a camera option similar to Samsung's Live Focus or Apple's Portrait Mode/Portrait Lighting/depth of field? I've yet to see anyone show this in any video reviews. I was ready to pull the trigger on this phone until I heard about bootlooping and soft- and hard-bricking with previous V-series phones. What guarantee is there that this phone will last even half as long as my iPhone 4S (which I'm still using)?

Not surprising, really, since unlike *any other camera phone on the market* - anywhere - it is a 10 bit sensor and not an 8 bit one. The heat generated by this is likely more than the industrial design can bear at this time at high frame rates and 4K definition. Perhaps the V40 or, more likely, the V50 will be able to cope. I'd take a 10 bit sensor ove super high frame rates every day of the week, as normal speed filming is 99% of my practice.

Well thank goodness I watched your video, nowhere has LG indicated that cine log is not available with the wide-angle lens. It is important to me that the wide-angle and standard footage be consistent. How can you keep clips consistent in a project when LG doesn't even let you use cine log recording for the wide-angle?!

Oh boy, here we go. First, that isn't proper LOG (log stands for logarithmic, and what it does is help the camera see closer to the way the human eye sees by bringing down the highlights and bringing up the shadows so that it can be corrected in post by adding saturation and contrast to get the maximum latitude from the camera's sensor). I don't know exactly what the "log" footage is on the V30, but it doesn't look like any log I've seen (it's even worse than F-Log and I thought that was the bottom of the barrel). Second, I'm not sure that you know how to color correct log, *OR*, the log has such a low bitrate that when you did try to correct it, both skintones (which looked both green and magenta) and colors were splotchy (see 1:42), but I will give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that it's the bitrate, because most of the AA videos, that I've seen, are beautifully done with proper skin tones and colors. I've never met you in person, but I know that your skin isn't splotchy green and magenta (because nobody's is). And in all fairness, the GH5 does the same thing to skintones with its 150mbps log and it's a symptom of too low of a bitrate. I also suspect that much, if not all, of the noise dancing around on your purple shirt was also due to the low bitrate and low light (high ISO), in conjunction with "log". Very, very few people need log, or should shoot in log and even fewer still will see any benefit from it, while most will end up getting truly horrendous results (again, see 1:42). Using it for shots inside your house, or office, when there's not a lot of dynamic range, or when the camera can't gather enough light due to that teeny tiny little sensor, isn't only a bad thing, it's the *worst thing* and that's why you get shots that look like 1:42. Log REQUIRES higher bitrates (we learned this from the GH5...again, after learning it from the A7SII, A7S, GH4 and others), because when you get to post, you're pushing the image a great deal more than when you are just filming with a standard linear format picture profile. 99.99999% of people in 99.99999% of situations will be FAR better off to just use a regular picture style/profile that gives proper skin tones and colors "out of the box". Log isn't a trick, it's not a gimmick, and it's going to make a lot of people create much uglier videos than they otherwise would have, because it's on a phone, which is already challenged by a tiny sensor, terrible lens, horrible software (for video), a ridiculously small aperture (no, it's not REALLY f/1.6 or f/1.9) and a stupidly low bitrate. Couple that with the fact that very few people know how to properly expose, color correct and grade log footage and you've got a potential disaster on your hands. I honestly don't know what LG was thinking. I really hope that there aren't people who go out and buy this phone expecting to get decent results using log. I suspect that, come launch day, we're going to see a torrent of truly terrible-looking videos from the V30 and I don't see how that is good for LG's reputation. I'm an android guy through and through, but this is one area where Apple gets it right, they don't overburden people with tons of picture profiles, they give you a couple and the videos they produce are often visually stunning without the need to post-process. 52mbps. Fifty-two megabits per second. You need, AT A MINIMUM, 200mbps to have log that is able to be properly corrected (that's not even taking the grade into account), if you're using h.264. The GH5's 150mbps isn't enough (I've seen evidence that even 400mbps isn't really enough). 52mbps is abysmal if you have to push that image around in post (and you do, since it's log). I hope, for all of our eyes' sake, that this is both the first AND last time we see "log" on a smartphone. Honestly, some of that unprocessed "log" footage looked like a clown vomited on my screen and I'd be happy if I never saw that again. Sorry to be such a debbie downer, but somebody's got to say these things. Also, I'm sorry for the novel-length post. TL;DR: Avoid log like the plague on this smartphone.

Afiq Qifa i bought it in India for the same price as one plus 5. I chose v20 over the OP5 cos im sort of an audiophile. The only gripe i have about the phone is that the included B&O earphones are overrated. They are at best average. Apart from that everything's awesome for the money.

I agree, I havent seen a camera review of the v30 yet where the ios isnt jittery and jumpy. Between the mediocre 5mp front facing cam and the poor performing ios, would be nice to see these things improved a bit in the final product.

No serious videographer is going to buy this camera. It's unfortunate, because it's going to require a professional colorist to make those videos even look remotely decent and those just aren't skills that most people have. With the terrible magenta bias that I saw, it's not going to be something that anyone who knows what they're doing with video is going to touch with a 10-foot pole. Yes, you can, somewhat, correct the magenta bias in post...or you could if you had a high-enough bitrate, but this phone tops out at 52mbps, so the image will fall apart the second you try to correct the white balance issues, leading to truly terrible-looking videos across the board. This is going to be a serious flop, in terms of video, for LG. Whether the phone, itself, does well, remains to be seen.

Yeah I've seen the same thing, you would have to buy a smartphone stabilizer rig, if you were wanting one with good built-in stabilization then I would check out the pixel 2. The conference demo looked very good and I've seen some other video test and they look good as well but it's still too early to tell still waiting on some reviews to come in.

For a Log profile, LG log profile is well-saturated. I dunno but i used to S-Log and it's great for post-processing. But a smartphone with built-in Log profile, 10/10 would buy it.
