My theory: Arthur Leigh Allen was the original Zodiac killer, but others were either copycat killers or he passed the torch. That would explain such wildly different m.o. and physical descriptions of the suspect.

+Shadrac Mould [m] Heh. All good. It's a weird movie to be sure. Part of what I didn't harp on was that this is a movie about giving up. Everyone slowly melts away and there is no resolution for anyone but Graysmith. That's why the interaction in the hardware store is so important. Everyone else has moved on but he stuck with it, and by virtue of sacrificing every aspect of his life to this conquest, he is the /only/ one that gets resolution. This is funny because this passed on to the audience as well.
@sawaugust
@sawaugust 8 жыл бұрын
Yeah this movie was simply about the investigation and how the police handled it. Also how Mr Graysmith became obsessed with finding the killer. The end of the movie just told us the last big update that happened in this case. Now days there are more theories and new stuff being added as time goes on. I loved this movie!

1 - Man that footage from Zodiac still looks crisp as heck 2 - The Game = highly underrated movie, it was my first exposure to Fincher, and after that I was hooked 3- I still remember that basement scene with the poster...and him just down there...and the implication that the home owner might have been the Zodiac....that tenseness, man. It was in the original cut as well as the director's cut 4- You know I am gonna vote for Big Trouble In Little China, but I'd be really interested to see or read your further thoughts on the movie Zodiac if you ever think to do something else on it. Really enjoyed this video man! Great stuff as always

When I saw Modesto California pop up on the screen I recalled that George Lucas is from there, and also realized he's about the right age, so just for fun I Googled "George Lucas Zodiac Killer" and somebody already wrote a book about him being the Zodiac that is only *probably* a joke. So that's a thing...

Docktor Jim He used the song once to emphasize a point in a movie in one of his reviews, cuz he thought it genuinely worked despite being a corny pop song by a boy band. He got a lot of slack in the comments about it, so then it became an inside joke to overuse the song in future videos where it didn't fit and wasn't necessary, just to piss people off while winking and nodding at them.

I love this film. It’s such an interesting mystery and such a great story that I don’t even care that we don’t get answer to the mystery. It’s one of those films that immerses you in a time period without being heavy handed with the overuse of stuff like 60s/70s pop culture references, songs from the era or any attempt to shoot it like a film of that era. I dunno, that just makes it look much better and more realistic.

Thankfully, the scene with Greysmith getting all freaked out and paranoid over Bob Vaughn IS indeed in the Theatrical Cut! That's my personal favorite scene in the whole movie, right there. It's SO masterfully written, blocked, shot, acted, edited... it just builds so much tension and it feels legitimately creepy! I love how Bob Vaughn slowly and gradually goes from being this regular everyday guy that Greysmith is getting some info from to just getting under the skin with his creep factor that's ALL just in Greysmith's head. 'Cuz in the end, despite Greysmith feeling all but certain he's about to DIE from this dude, Vaughn just... sees him out and politely bids him goodnight (all the while probably feeling more than a little creeped out HIMSELF by Greysmith's screwy, paranoid behavior and was likely just glad to've gotten him the hell outta his house :P)

Ha, the one time I didn't vote for zodiac. Excellent review as always, when I first went to college and no one else has moved into the dorms yet, zodiac was the only dvd I had so I watched it at least fifty times. I remember thinking for the first time "this movie is nearly three hours long, but it could do with being a bit longer". Also this time I vote for la confidential, since everyone else is voting for big trouble and I'm a hipster.

I'd love to see you do L.A. Confidential, because I feel like I really didn't "get" that movie. Something tells me another title is going to win the vote, though. In other news: I have a suggestion for a hot take: Watch 2009's "Agora." I thought the movie had a lot going for it, but critics shredded it and it was quickly forgotten. Give it a shot.

+oshox100 [m] Was Agora the sequel to Baraka? Was it a series of seemingly unconnected shots of lots of stuff from around the world?

+Chainsawsuit Original No, it was a heavy-handed Rachel Weisz movie with some decent (IMO) cinematography

LA Confidential! Another great review btw. Your analysis is amazing. For being not syndicated, you have an amazing knowledge of film. More than any of my professors did anyhow. You're right up there with Stoklasa which is a great compliment as far as I'm concerned . Keep up the great work!

+Justin Clark [m] I like that you can say Stoklasa and I know immediately what you mean. I will take that very generous compliment!

Glad that you finally got to do Zodiac, any chance of a MWM for The Game? As much as I would love to see LA Confidential, I have to say Big Trouble In Little China.

Big Trouble in Little China. Out of curiosity, do you have any plans to do any animated films? There's not a whole lot of this kind of in depth analysis for animation, which I think is part of why it's not taken as seriously.
