I met Nikki Giovanni twice and she reinforced my sense of self. My heart aches at her passing.

I actually met Danticat too, at a book event she did in Brooklyn more than a decade ago.

I spent a lot of my life not crying too and being proud of it, until I discovered that crying is cleansing/healing.

Her life has been filled with so many interesting and wonderful events. I learn so much every time I hear her speak🫶🏾🫶🏾🫶🏾

She was jaded by her experience with her father, as she should have. I watched her discussion with the Late James Baldwin (PBUH). She was 28 her view of men has not changed. "Black men are crazy/Black women are phenomenal." Both are true. And as we all are connected, so is the opposite. I do not excuse the poorly aimed angst of any man regardless of culture. But understaning is a muscle.
