The Evil Dead franchise is so fascinating to see with it's cinematography. Who knew a camera shake can scare the living daylights out of someone?!

1:47 "What could be lurking int he shadows is almost always more frightening than what actually is." So true, many a time a horror film loses its fear factor once you actually see the "monster" or whatever it is.

Yet another great lesson for me, Thank you again Ryan, I have recently entered into the first ever Face of Horror contest, hosted by Film maker Jim Vendiola...thought I might have a shot at going deep into the finals, until I've read recently that some entrants are internet influencers with millions of followers...truly bummed, also I sent a message to you and your brother about someone responding to some of these comments that might be spoofing FILM RIOTS email, and asking for responses.

Play back this episode in slow motion, pause at the scenes that you like, and take notes. About everything: make up, lighting, set design, etc to give you ideas on how to do your own scenes in your movie. Or try to recreate the scenes exactly to challenge yourself. Good luck with all your movie making adventures.

Great vid! I have a REQUEST please. I want to know how financially successful your films have been and how you monetised them. I know you’re hugely successful on YT and your films are a very high standard. I just want to find out whether that translates into sales? How do other low budget filmmakers get their work out into the world without a large following to promote to? Thanks, been watching since the revision 3 days. Used to copy your episodes to dvd so I could watch them on my TV, before I had a smart tv. 😊

Another extremely important aspect is "Sound Design"!!! NOT Music. But, Sound Design. Unfortunately, it wasn't mentioned here. By this, I mean all the "scratches, creaks, and moans", (figuratively speaking, although it can be litteral, at times). This can be extremely subtle, or "in your face" obvious. For example, in "A Quiet Place", every bit of "Foley" work brings intensity and dread in an intentionally quiet world. Another example, although quite over the top, is from the original "Evil Dead". It helps stir the imagination of what could, or not, be just out of sight.

Nice. I like the way you present the horror films like quiet place and werewolf by night. The other ones you guys presented, I've never seen because I'm not an R-rated fan also because I'm more of a PG-13 fan of horror films like Doctor Strange the multiverse of madness, I am legend, werewolf by night, a quiet place, forgotten and the eight legged freak and even tremors and also Jaws and jaws 2. Those are the horror films I like watching

Most of these techniques have become so ubiquitous and are so american-culture anchored (such as the camping light from under the chin or the typical Halloween setting) that they end up becoming clichés and thus, a disappointment for those who seek horror to emerge from within the story and not from visual tricks. It's like the current trend of heavily depending on CGI to tell any story.
