I love the DVD show so much....a common reoccurring camera shot involves the characters closely clumped together on couches or at tables like in this episode with Buddy, Sally and Millie practically sitting in each other's laps at the dinning table. The writing, timing, character ensemble is pure comedic joy---and now 60+ years later, viewing from today's more sophisticated technical capabilities just makes the clumping scenes all the more funnier.

@@dsscam what is interesting is when he played an old man- Great uncle Jebediah who leaves a riddle for Rob in a film....it was how we thought of an old man at that time and he is nowhere near that portrayal!!!

That was a common practice in the 60s. Either Bewitched or Petticoat Junction had the most cast changes. Petticoat alone had 5 different openings. A new one for each major cast member change.

7:44 Stacey did get married first according to one early episode. Nobody who wrote this brilliance would ever have believed people would be watching repeatedly on a computer every day 60 years later to ever worry about continuity. Laura could've just hidden it in the disappearing rock in the basement.

Lyrics to the Dick Van Dyke Show Theme One of the gems from Dick Van Dyke’s appearance on Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me was the revelation that the theme song to The Dick Van Dyke Show had lyrics. They were written by Morey Amsterdam, who played Buddy Sorrell. So you think that you’ve got troubles? Well, trouble’s a bubble So tell old Mr. Trouble to get lost! Why not hold your head up high and Stop cryin’, start tryin’ And don’t forget to keep your fingers crossed. When you find the joy of livin’ Is lovin’ and givin’ You’ll be there when the winning dice are tossed. A smile is just a frown that’s turned upside down So smile, and that frown will defrost. And don’t forget to keep your fingers crossed.

The reason television was great then... Americans had a work ethic. We took pride in doing out best. Writers out-wrote themselves. Actors achieved greatness. Producers produced a great product, every week. People believed in God and went to Church. These shows all have a theme of morality running through them. Right and wrong are clear, family values are respected, and America was at its height as a world power.

@@xxwhispersxx2856 i agree it weren’t the best back then also you forget the war but there were some things they did that was way better than it is today for example racism on black people was due to the lack of knowledge about them remember where people was told from there great grandparents that black people were evil and had tails that’s why segregation happened so it’s good we live in the information era when such things can be easily searched. And I feel like the big problem is people instantly assume back then was terrible because men beat there wives you have to realise if a guy has no morals and is abusive regardless what era he’s in he will do so it’s unfair to compare. The original commenter was right back then had a way higher morality while nowadays it’s cool to have no morality and people wonder why the worlds becoming more dangerous..

@@xxwhispersxx2856 even down to how they dressed showed a high moral compass and watching respectful shows and pictures also influences you to be respectful too society needs more morality while nowadays most women don’t think they’re worth two cents or they don’t wear skimpy revealing clothes and don’t get me started on men’s dress. Also look at the difference in the music back then to now no gangster rap no drill no nothing it was either love songs or comedy songs the pictures didn’t even have swearing in them and men and women in pictures had to have separate beds while nowadays some children are watching pictures with sex scenes in it I remember watching such pictures growing up with my parents and it would be so awkward and embarrassing degeneracy and morality declines every year now

Funny, I could see the mother's point of view (scenario) and boys can be a bit smart to their mothers sometimes. And mothers often get shut down and can't say all they want to sometimes.
