Rob is responsible. How else would you explain the casing evidence? Why would Ron have one of his casings on Melvin’s property? No other reason but to kill him. Ron had motive, opportunity, a propensity for violence against Melvin, shot at him earlier after he crashed his car into him, and his truck matched the description of the one that the neighbor saw.

It’s really not since they were able to prove that the shell-casing on Ron’s property makes the casing found in Melvin’s barn. Ron had no reason to be on Melvin’s property, and for there to be a matched shell-casing, unless he was the killer.

It looks that he was convicted due to the testimony of two inmates that said Harshman confessed to them in killing Melvin and swore they had no benefits from the testimony. Since the defence was not informed of these testimonies where actually both inmates had agreements with prosecution, in 2018 Harshman conviction was overturned. The judge ordered Harshman to be freed with a new retrial to be done within 90 days. It looks like in front of this situation, Harshman agreed to a third degree murder and was convicted to 20 years jail time wich were to be due on february 2021. Probably he is a free man now. Nice to put in the spotlight the forensics of every crime, but creators of this show should also talk about all the other elements that contributed to the convictions.

@@addoneforthem Yeah, his original conviction was overturned because of due process. There was much more evidence besides those eyewitnesses. Anyway he was about to get a retrial but in 2019 Harshman took a plea of "no contest", got a new sentence of 10 - 20 years, got credit for 19 years time served and is probably out now.

His sentence was overturned because a state trooper testified that the cell mates who testified against him were threatened and coerced into testifying. In 2019, Harshmans sentence was vacated and he was set free. He was 70 at the time.

By saying that you're not saying that you think he didn't do it is revealing that there was enough to convince you otherwise. All of the circumstantial evidence as well as the casings lined up along with the witness account of his truck there at the scene of the crime; if he didn't do it then who did? Where is his gun? He had a solid motive and opportunity. This otherwise would've went on as another case where you knew in your heart the perpetrator is guilty, but not enough evidence to convict.

Plot twist : Teresa ( Harshman wife) asked him to purchase the pistol to kill him. So once Harshman bought it, he give to his wife because she said she want to over the relationship by herself but instead Teresa gives the pistol to Melvin. Melvin fake his own death by shooting the pistol somewhere else and take the shelf casing and put it at the scene. On the day of Melvin disappearance Teresa asked his husband Harshman to call Melvin wife Joanne to check if he's at home alone. This is to create evidence for the police that Harshman know that Melvin is at home alone. Melvin has ransacked his own house and leave the scene with his car. Teresa probably asked his husband to come pick her up after she kill Melvin,but she never go to the scene. So when Harshman arrived to Melvin house,nobody is there so he come back home. When he asked his wife, Teresa probably saying the same,that Melvin is not home,she get scared and throw the pistol on her way back from there. And now this create eye witnesses that they saw Harshman car near Melvin resident on the day of his disappearance. Teresa later divorced her husband Harshman and live happily with Melvin in his new identity.

Many keep laughing at how the detectives say Melvin wasn’t one to up and run away except for the time he went to Montana with a married woman but I believe they said that since there was further evidence that Melvin didn’t leave willingly, and the fact that it was a one time thing, and just wanted to get his life back together. I felt bad for him and pray that he’s resting in peace. Ron is guilty due to the casing evidence, his propensity to violence towards Melvin, and motive.
