On the brief comment you made about kids being addicted to those candy bars, that was the entire point of the episode: to educate kids about addiction. It's not a dark secret or concerning, it was deliberately included because they wanted to teach kids the dangers of addiction in an effort to make sure they did not get addicted to things even worse than candy bars. That's not concerning, that's a brave move that trusts kids to handle difficult topics in an effort to protect them. Personally, I think such a decision by the show should be applauded, it was a necessary lesson for kids living in the modern world to protect them.

They even explained the mechanics of addiction on the brain in the episode. It was a great way to show the dangers of addiction without going to the drug territory. Foods can be addicting too and if kids are taught to watch out for that, they will know to watch out for even more addictive substances like drugs when they get older.

Well, I'm starting to think that anthropomorphic animals and pets in arthur are actually different species that still look similar. Kind of like how monkeys and human evolved from the same species, but split off into their own branches. Pets and anthros in Arthur are like that, but instead of splitting off long ago, they split off fairly recently. Of course, theres probably a lot of holes in this theory, but that's just what I thought lol.
