As a Korean, here are some interesting facts. • The individual who sung the Kellogg’s Onion Cereal Song was Korean Singer Tae Jin Ah (he is a famous trot singer). He remixed one of his songs called “I am Sorry” which was released way back in 1990. • The Music Video is basically apologizing on not releasing the flavor in the first place and they will fulfill on their promise of releasing the flavor even if it doesn’t sell well.

As a Korean citizen who lives in South Korea, let me just add these points: - Just like the English memedom of the internet, Korean has it's own large regime of stupid memes (almost always based in Korea, since we're the only country with it as the national language). This 'election' was one of THE LARGEST memes back in the mid-2000s. Everybody called the ads as propaganda material for Checky and 'questioned' (in quotes, bc who takes memes seriously) why there were absolutely no pro-Chaka campaign material available anywhere on the internet. Since then the meme has died down (as all memes do) but there would always be an extra meme from time to time, most recently the '15 year anniversary of the dictatorship of Checky'. - (due to its frivolous noise marketing) Every KZbinr or BJ in Korea immediately reviewed the Onion Chex once it was released. The common consensus is that it's not bad as a substitute for actual onions for certain soup-type cuisine, which is rather common in Korea. Some say that it tastes better eaten raw, without milk. Some suggest using soy milk instead. As its intended use as a cereal, the reviews are rather divisive - some find the onion-y spice of the cereal to be a surprising taste while some treat it like a he(double-hockey-sticks)spawn. - I bought a pack for my family. I hated it. My mother hated it. My dad loved it. Since my dad comes from Gwangju, where traditional Korean meals are more predominant than Seoul, this might be a sign that the Onion Chex appeals more to people who have rice/rice-based cuisine in their common diet - a theory based on somewhat fair reasoning. However, if we want to test that hypothesis, we're gonna need a larger sample size than 1 household. - Yes, it smells and tastes just like spring onions to a large degree.

mat, but there is something you missed. what ACTUALLY happened at the vote was the trollers found out that if you refresh the page, then you could re-vote for the flavor. so the trollers spammed green onion flavor and then kelloeg realized it so put chocolate by a WAY WAY head first so that the trollers couldn't catch up. that is what actually happened.

Won't lie, that would be my logic too. There are a million chocolate cereals that taste extremely similar so tasting one basically means tasting all the others, but i would be 100% hyper curious as to HOW an onion cereal would be like in general. I'd be thinking "Would it be that bad, just weird, or unexpectedly good?" and would vote for the onion just to find out since the chocolate option i already know the answer to.

I used to live in Korea and I actually voted for green onion thing back then. I genuinely wanted green onion flavoured cereal, no joke. Good thing I finally got to see that happen. Trivia: there is no original Chex in Korea, only chocolate Chex and its variations, and this new green onion Chex. Bit funny considering that chocolate flavoured Chex is the most uncommon Chex in the States.

I feel like you left out a significant reason to choose the onion option: genuine curiosity. If you have two options, one predictable you have experienced a million times before (like the chocolate flavor), and one wild, unpredictable one (but still low risk), I feel like many people would choose the latter just to see what happens. Like, I personally would like to try the onion flavor over the chocolate one, because I assume I have tasted something similar to the chocolate one before, but certainly nothing like onion cereal.

Yes, I agree with you- that would one be a one time experience so they should of made it the winner of the week or for a short period so people can buy it and still make a profit since people are curious of the flavor; and later on people will come back for the chocolate favor since it's they already tested the onion flavor. So overall they could of handle this situation a little better and people would actually like what the company is doing.

I'm sure I've seen a variation of this vote marketing where they bring out the products before or during the vote. So there's a rush of customers buying twice what they would normally to try both flavours before they vote on their favourite. The best one stays on the shelf for a limited time or permanently. And it works out great for the customer and the company. There's no need to rig the vote. Both flavours clearly exist and can be tried beforehand. The votes are less likely to see trolling. The customer gets to experience 2 new flavours. The company gets exposure and an increase in sales during the campaign. The only people losing are the ones who don't like the flavour that wins and really, they're not losing much.
