Just how safe is your fast food?
In this episode, Matt Allwright and Chris Hollins follow the food inspectors as they check the standards in professional kitchens and food outlets across Britain. Fast food is a massive problem for the food inspectors and tonight it’s ‘Nightime Terrors’ as take-aways in Southend come under the scrutiny of veteran food inspector Steve Ramm.
Are the kebabs and burgers being cooked correctly, and do the people cooking know the food hygiene rules?
In the country Sara Procter tackles a Suffolk pub landlord whose standards have been slipping. Meanwhile in London, Chris Hollins and food inspector, Ben Milligan go to City University where the students learn some shocking lessons about food hygiene.

I noticed that. I think the issue was the original broadcasts used music that the BBC had the rights for. Whoever owns the copyright on these shows now has to use library music instead and it drowns out the spoken audio too.

The scores on the doors system is completely flawed as any business with a 0-2 rating are allowed to stay open. They should be closed immediately, and fined. Too many don’t give consideration to the health of their customers and the effects food poisoning could have. Local council/government need to be much stronger on this.

We'll never know if the man selling the apples is ligit. He can't complete a free form, IMO is bonkers and should be forceable removed if he didn't. This is peoples health at risk. The pub, The Crown, seriously pissed me off. People will be going there expecting decent pub grub, only to be served tesco ready meals, no doubt at a premium price. If you cannot cook mate, close the kitchen or hire a chef, either that or write on the menu's, that the food isn't fresh. I would be royally pissed off if I went for a meal in my local pub and was served a tesco ready meal that I could have nipped out in the car and bought myself. I bet the locals weren't too impressed when this episode aired, that's for sure.

Elizabeth P .....take my advice Elizabeth and NEVER eat anywhere outdoors unless youve asked to see their kitchen first......if they refuse then walk away...........your safest bet is to actually make your own....recipe books are cheap

I think doner joints are terrible. The stuff tastes disgusting and has probably been prepared and cooked in dirty kitchens. I know a village near to where I live and there are two of these places on the same street within a few metres of each other. I do not know why this was permitted. Still this is the sort of rubbish that many young people wish to eat these days. God save their guts is all I can say.

I remember reading an extremely funny book by an American author whose name unfortunately escapes me, in which he described how the meat which is sliced off for the kebab reminded him of a dead man's leg. This book was published over 30 years ago. Things have not changed much.

One of these presenters has his own unique style, leaving the viewer interested in what he is saying and doing. The other is a generic anonymous sounding presenter off a production line of presenters.

I knew a woman who's sister was an environmental health inspector working in Glasgow, who told her they could close down 90 percent of the Asian takeaways but they weren't allowed to.

The more affluent an area is the higher quality of the food sold; so the most deprived areas will have the cheapest poorest quality Doner Kebabs. A large Doner Kebab should cost at least £7

20 000 cases of food poisoning a week is fk all in a country with a population of around 70 million. Many of those cases would be people coming back from a foreign holiday with a stomach bug too 😂
