What a great battle against one my favorite enemies. Wiegraf's story arc is fantastic. A revolutionary fighting the for the greater good corrupted by his thirst for vengeance. Just great story telling and really some great epic battles.

My memory of this fight goes back to my first play through and not saving before the castle. Made it to Wiegraf only to be absolutely bodied 1000 times, only to have to completely restart my game. Never knew about the chameleon robe working on Lightning Stab until years and years later. God I love this game. And this fight is one of the reasons.

If you're gonna do the Yell/Tailwind+Accumulate/Focus strat, I'd say turn Ramza into a class that you want to master. Usually by the time you're done with the battle, Ramza will have 9999 JP to spend on said class. Easy Mastered Samurai FTW

@J7Jase the next time I go into this fight, I plan on making Ramza a White Mage/Dragoon + Jump, Mana Shield, and Manafont. Challenge myself first and see if I can kill Wiegraf without needing the Chameleon Robe. Thinking I might go with Dragon Whisker over Holy Lance so that Ramza can damage the Demons during the Belias fight

My go to, has been having Ramza as a squire with Auto-Potion, Dual-Wield, Move +2, and will spend several turns using Focus and Tailwind until I can get 2 turns in a row to land 4 hits. This can one-shot him in both forms if you're patient. Make sure you have only X-Potions and that Ramza knows X-potion

I used the Accumulate/Yell cheese against him, sweest avenging of my childhood ever. The moment Velius entered the fight, Ramza had like 5 or 6 turns to slap that goat to kingdom come.

back then to 98', for 13 years old and dont know how to playing properly at first time, this fight is hard as hell... when i reach hp 300+ and full diamond equipment i got self confident at battle of riovanes castle, but then i had a mistake and trapped in save point before duel against weigraf... unfortunately my 300 hp get quickly ass whopped when weigraf lightning stab hit me 3rd times and i cant destroy his equipment because maintenance skill... so that times i realized im fxxked wiegraf always become my fav. villain, especially his point of view about conflict, goverment and human beings... he simply talk about the reality and injustice, no bullshitting politic or idealism... wiegraf has good intention but unfortunately he drove into wrong path, and even worse when his sister died.

Yeah definitely was a tough fight the first time back in the day. Even with high HP Wiegraf can take you down lol. But same I really like Wiegraf as a character and this fight is just so famous and infamous and one of the most epic things about FFT.

Even as a child I always used a separate file when I saw a point of no return, and this game showed me how good that was, because Velius' battle wrecked me a lot of times, and I had to go back to my other save before going into Riovanes to grind. Nowadays I know grinding is not even necessary, but as a child the first thing that comes to mind when you face defeat many times in a specific battle is to grind 😂.

I sometimes neglect Ramza so I’ve had success with guns and auto potion as a Chemist, although I like the idea of Dark Knight Ramza vs White Knight Wiegraf!

That can work too depends on Zodiac signs, the gun equipped and so on. And have the other characters take care of the enemies in phase 2

i remember in the PSX version ill usually use a lancer/dragoon with sorth charge, the spear let you to avoid the counter and the jump... well youre not in the map, usually help after the morph too

The only thing is Short Charge doesn't lower Jump times and quite a few things like Dance, Sing and even Archer abilities. Jump is heavily based on speed and CT of target which sadly dragoons lack

oh yea that reminds me. that is a way to prevent him to do anything just regular melee attack. I did that on one of my playthrough it was easy. although his demon form really annoying so I just do focus and yell anyways lol just less rng and saves time

I always steal a blood sword early on to use in this fight.

It can work but I don't consider it the best or recommended choice just because you need to go up to attack him and he has Counter

the most common method to beat him is auto potion with only x potion for 150 heal or critical hp with like 97 bravery and then use steel to boost 100 so u can always use critical hp. and ramza squire class with the double attack from ninja. focus and yell combo. and tip make sure u do have an extra save file in case things go wrong cause this is one of the battles where once u are here u cant go back.

Thanks I mention quite a few strategies in this comment for use in the video. I also talk about other details and the Zodiac signs as well since as Capricorn and Taurus the 150 won't completely out heal the 168 damage to you.

@@J7Jase yea thats why I think critical hp is better only if u can calc it including his crit hits. I mean I have no issue with critical hp recover. very easy to get and good. I mean its good anyways cause u need to have high bravery. cause 97 percent bravery = 97 percent it will work. basically one percent each

@@J7Jase oh and I saw a video where a monk can do 360 even at early level and double attack from a ninja skill. and then do like 500 at least because the demon boss be charging a spell lol. so I guess it isnt that hard of a fight lol

The best luck I had against him was to use Guts/Squire "Shout on the edges with Monk using Dual Wield from ninja. Punched his so hard with a few rounds.

i didnt use tiailwind but when i killed him i just used the basic knight class but with dual weird from ninja and use item from chemist then i just used rend speed so a revserve tailwind used same strat on final boss or maybe i did have tailwind? dont remeber but definitly rend speed the basixc knight class is way underrated

There are several ways you can go about approaching any fight. Although I'd still prefer damage over rend speed in most cases in my opinion. But play how you want as there are various ways to tackle the game.

Tem várias estratégias mas eu prefiro usar a opção de 2 Espadas, evoluindo pra ninja, na hora da batalha só vou evoluindo speed até 20 e depois ataque até 20. Ele é fraco máximo 350HP quando virá monstro fica entre 800HP. Um ataque de ninja já mata o pobre do wiegraf

Master lancer. Jump destroys Wiegraf. Velias too. Agrias, another lancer, priest, and Mustadio chemist. All auto potion, throw away the two hi potions you get from the battle before. Definitely tortured me my first play through. But after my third, I always dreaded this battle, but hitting lv 40, not too bad.

For the first phase it depends in most cases no as base lancer/dragoon won't have the speed typically to land on him. But in the second phase it definitely can do some damage.

arithmetician owns the game. have ramza and 1 mage become black mage and with arithmetics as 2md job skill. and u can easily 1 shot most enemies with holy or flare.

Blood Sword damage just falls off and it become obsolete rather fast.

This anti protagonist wiegraf is the pinnacle of Thanos if you're not prepared (newcomers) in which you gonna have too restart a new game😮‍💨 . Wiegraf grifts you no joy and no sorrow just agony🎭 but here we are of today knowing his backstory , I'm not into politics but I remember a KZbinr reviews wiegraf ideology to how these puppet politicians are of today. Their damage goes bananas even more so while unarmed lol. Some people like monk better with dual wield but I like the higher speed and base move with Ninja personally lol

@J7Jase that's a cool right on. Never knew that or bothered because they seemed to get a stupid high damage buff anyway and you have gems like Concentration and Defnese Boost to round you out there as an overall team unit. Since this is a solo fight, speaking of the Esper fight at Riovanes, I always tended to rely more on Concentration, as the shield presents an issue and you can easily circumnavigate that with high speed, dual unarmed attacks and a helmet slot that can further buff (something a Monk does not get, for example, and would have to sacrifice Dual Wield in order to get Concentration). I'm not sure man, as a veteran player I would almost rather go into the fight as a time mage (or something with time magic as a side ability) and just buff and manipulate the fight. Once you know the fight is immenent there are about 50 things you could do about it. Honestly I don't even go out of my way to plan for it anymore.

@@ransomdekafenya2584 nice yeah concentration is overlooked and I did mention it in the video too and yeah one of these clips I had Wiegraf block me like 4 times lol. My first ever playthrough he kept blocking everything although I just had to land my attacks. And same. Once you know how he works this fight is very doable. Still love this game though lol. Makes me want to do some solo class challenges though not too Kaizo but can be challenging

@J7Jase if by solo class challenges you mean running 5 bad mothers all the same class, I highly recommend. Super fun way to play the game and it forces you into limited equipment use, or to use your ability slot to kit different, and shows you how diverse you can truly use each class. Back when the multi-player was still up on PSP my friend and I use to do basically "necromancer" fights where you kept one reserve and zombied the rest of your whole party. It can be a lot of fun.

When I was a kid I diacovered the glitch where if your a monk with Dual wild you will miss him first time then critical hit him second time and win and it happens everytime its a glitch

Not really. Heavy armor starts to get weak in later Chapter 2 because almost all armor gives only HP and no other benefits. It's a bit more complex than that

@@J7Jase perhaps, but having Ramza stay a monk, having accumulate as a skill under guts, and equipping a bracer and heavy armor, you really only every needed to use wave fist/earth slash/chakra and you could wipe most levels.

I just use Lancer with jump, easy day. 1 or 2 hits.

Bad strategy for part 1. Jump is too slow. Change into a Thief or Ninja for more speed

It depends in most cases base Lancer won't have enough speed to land on Wiegraf and it also depends on Zodiac sign too.

@@J7Jase the only way I can see lancer outspeed if the level up and down glitch and u get lancer to 50 speed max. or if u use lancer 2nd skill and your main ability is squire lol
