It is such a grind to get there. Usually I end up messing around with different builds on the way there, making the grind even longer. Definitely worth it once you get there.

I'd argue that having 1 Dark Knight is more than enough, and it should definitely be Ramza who's the candidate for it. Besides Luso, who you can only get mid-game, Ramza's the only one that can relatively "easily" unlock this job. Just learn Gained JP Up, Focus and Yell, and have him start with Black Mage. He should be able to master the Black Mage in about 2 battles (approx.) while also permanently killing 8 enemies total, especially if he's at 50 speed and 99 PA. Maybe just do all that Black Mage grinding at Zeklaus Desert and the level-down tile, not to become over levelled. After that, its all just physical jobs to get JP on, so meanwhile have someone talk sense into Ramza and lower his Faith early to 3 as magic is for sissies and Ramza ain't one. Meet the Dark Knight job requirements and maybe, just maybe, you'll have Ramza as a Dark Knight somewhere in the middle of chapter 2 if you're playing more or less naturally with a few random battles here and there. Why should Dark Knight go to Ramza btw? Well, looking at the Beoulve family, both of his brothers are competent magic-sword knights, I always felt that Ramza got totally screwed over (bad genes from his mother or something?) along with Alma, and now there's finally an opportunity for him. Plus from a role-playing perspective, after Delita and Ramza lose the real battle to Algus, and Tietra dies, Ramza could be just like Gaffy and go full emo-mode. It just makes sense in my book. :D

Very nice comment and yeah I agree Ramza can get Dark Knight the fastest due to his abilities and it fits him in my opinion as well and nice tip on lowering the faith stat too. I love Ramza but his faith is just high so he can get blown up easily in Chapter 1 for sure lol. I just want to say it was a game design choice lol. Because in actual lore and canon he owns like everybody and everything in game lol. If I recall Alma has an insane MA stat lol so she could do some insane stuff with the Math Skill lol. And yeah agreed the Gaffgarion OG Dark Knight 👍

Just to follow up with a side-note, assuming you are at Zeklaus Desert and maybe had something like 5 kills approx. on Ramza from story battles (crystal/treasurefy enemies) up to this point, I tested how long it would take if you are totally focused to get Ramza to a Dark Knight. It is roughly 1.5 to 2 hours, if you stay at Zeklaus and do the Tailwind + Focus strategy. I had him remain at level 6 as that felt correct for the story level roughly. At the same time, an Orator would lower his Faith to 3 (that's just my style) and another two Orators would go around scaring the bejeezus outta the monsters to 0 Bravery, so they'd just run away as helpless Chickens. I had a Knight also Speedrend them so they'd never get a turn :D

Fashion is ALWAYS worth it! I do wish that you could recruit a Dark Knight generic in wotl in a side quest, though. I'm not about the grind on repeat playthroughs

Thanks so much and it is a single player game after all. While it's good to strive for balance, at the end of the day it's impossible. This is coming from a guy who played at high levels of WoW pvp and heroes of the storm.

I just started playing this game and I want to proceed with the story after having full selection of classes and understanding of each. I just visited the 1st castle in the game (and bought a bow and heavy armor), and unlocked ninja with some random battles. I already mastered squire on the second battle where delita joins my fight. Almost there. I hear talking about the desert but not sure how far am I from there.

Got 4 dark knights my recent play though with a lvl 8 onion knight. Depends on your play thru goals, you will eventually get it out of Boredom. My only plans this play through was 1 max onion knight n dark knight.

I always thought that the Dark Knight helmets (on the sprites) didn't look that good. But the rest of the armor is pretty cool. Idk maybe it will grow on me. I know the mime sprites did.

It is a bit grindy but I love playing this game and I've done a lot more horrible grinds in other games but at least it keeps me playing FFT lol

Is it worth it? No. Want to use it without ripping your hair out? Train 4 female units simultaneously with Dance and get them and Ramza (with Sing) to spillover JP boost each other as they get job levels. Want to make it easy? Get the Tzepish Tweak mod and get 5 Samurai 5 Black Mage. A slightly weaker version but reasonably obtained and, since it's already a mod, you could mod it further to just not require other jobs.

Lol that works and man. That mod is good but that name choice by him was just bad. I made the mod popular by calling it 2.5.

The thing is that the game showers you with soo much good units that going for the grueling task of unlocking Dark Knight is not worth it at all aside from completion sake. If I was going to change Dark Knight Job Requirements, I would keep the Mastering of Knight and Black Mage, Samurai at 8 and Dragoon at 4 while changing the 20+ confirmed kill into grabbing 5 Soul Crystals. This should reign on the overly grindy nature of the job so you can have it at post mid and into some of the late game.

I feel like the DK's stats should be a bit better overall too. I mean all that work and you have HP barely better than a lot of other units lol. Although their equipment options and PA are so solid.

I think for females it is definitely worth it, especially with Key characters like Agrias because of the Move +3 being accessible to Bard for Males but not Dancer for females.

It's a very powerfull job, but the requirements are so heavy that even one character reaching them breaks the story mode. Gafgarion's Fell Knight, for a much lighter requirements, would be perfect for story mode. It's great for PvP, thoug.

It can but thankfully its a single player game so its up to player choice and what they want to use and so on. In the late game Gaffgarion Fell Knight is inferior though in my opinion since he can't equip Knight Swords lol

Learn all their abilities. I recommend JP Boost and have multiple characters in the same job at the same time. All that spillover to help learn faster

Its worth it on at least ramza or a regular. You cant beat the armor and weapon set combined with its abilities. It basically allows you to have a slightly weaker version of thundergod cid, that can heal itself and do aoe dmg. Its worth it. The earlier the better.

It was a design choice by the development team. Gaffgarion also can't equip Knight Swords too sadly lol and his stat growths are also different. More Speed and HP but DK wins in PA and looks lol

It’s worth it but by the time u get a dark night job unlocked it’s just too op. And it’s like the character will be to over powered compared to all your other characters. I wish they made the dark knight job a little more balanced. And easier to unlock so you can play as one earlier in the game.

I mean yeah sorta but at the same time I think there are a lot of things that do insane damage you could probably clear the game faster even without getting Dark Knight. Their stats really aren't that great besides PA as well. But I can definitely see your point

If you're looking to have 1 or 2 Dark Knights around or before Chapter 3, the grind is worth it. If you're just trying to clear the game at a steady pace or speed run, skip this class. Personally, I love the Dark Knight class

Dark Knight isn't available in the PS1 version sadly. Only through mods like The Lion War. That one it requires Wizard Level 8 and Knight level 8.

I just got to Dark Knight with Ramza shortly into chapter 3.... I honestly didn't really mind the grind but I'm kind of dissapointed, my two Jump Ninjas are far stronger, and Ramza as a dragoon casting tailwind would be stronger it seems. Is it just because its still early on in the game and I don't have good gear/I just unlocked it? I'm lvl 53 as are 4 other characters, or at least close to that, my Jump Ninjas absolutely decimate the maps and I have a lvl 8 blk and wht mage and a decent summoner with arithmetics conpletely unlocked with a decent spell book and all of those do far more damage than Ramza as a Dark Knight right now. Also, don't spoil anythinf for me, I still have yet to play all the way through FFT, I've started and fell off probably half a dozen times, I'm 40 years old and I think I'm finally gonna make it all the way through. So no spoilers, just wondering why its so underwealming at first.

I won't spoil it but the Dark Knight's abilities, PA, and later equipment options are really strong. If your objective is to beat the game or do damage then I feel other things can do it just as good. Hope that helps out without going too into detail and spoiling anything.

​@J7Jase nah yea thats perfect and what I figured. Thanks Quick question, does the game get significantly harder? I feel like I grinded too much, its so easy now its almost boring... I'm actually thinking of restarting the game its so bad lol. My arithmetic basically decimates the field and my jump ninjas easily mop up whats left, every battle lasts maybe 2 turns, especially the story battles. I'm lvl 60 now with Ramza, i think the othe 4 characters are like 54 or so, and I'm just past the Weigraf fight in chapter 3. Does it get harder or is the rest of the game just going to be a breeze, i mean I don't mind being a little OP but this is ridiculously easy right now.
