That explanation was very helpful. I always got confused with the timeline and thought that Tidus got transported through 1,000 years, but hearing that the dream is an actual place and Sin is guarding it by destroying any highly technological city makes sense. Also, I always thought that Zanarkan was the technological city and Bevelle was the religious city, but it was the other way around since Zanarkan was the one with Summoners.

3 Notes: I imagined Jecht's disappearance at sea was orchestrated by the Fayths as a part of their plan to end their dreaming and not just a coincidence. Rin should be gifting his equipment to us considering we're trying to bring the eternal calm The first time I played FFX I thought the name Final Fantasy was a reference to Tidus as he is, in a sense, the ultimate fantasy. It didn't occur to me that I had played FF7 so it couldn't be that

The explanation of how Dream Zanarkand is an isolated place, actually in Spira, rather than an alternate universe/1000 years in the past makes so much sense. Never once, for about a decade, literally, could I figure how Jecht came to Spira. (irony, since Auron was in Zanarkand for 10 years... lol) Your explanation seriously gives so much more love for this game from me and how Sin's purpose is very indirectly good for the sake of Dream Zanarkand and moreover the residents of Dream Zanarkand won't know of Sin either because they can't go to the rest of spira... you know some'd feel very guilty knowing they can leave in peace without worrying about Sin and well... you know, that'd just get complicated. Sin prevents this. Also there's a part where Tidus mentions fiends being very rare in Dream Zanarkand... perhaps those fiends "rode" Sin from Spira as Auron did? Afterall, Fiends were explained to be what occurs to the unsent, therefore, technically, ALL fiends are unsent (So Phoenix Down should kill them all, dammit!) Another thing to note was how 10 years needed to pass for Sin to return, Yuna to start her pilgrimage and for Tidus to get involved. The so-called coincidences seem so much more intentional when explained as you did. Btw I agree that what you said about Tidus vanishing is NOT a spoiler, and in explaining why you forgot to mention that Tidus said "I'm grateful." and how Tidus is hiding it from everyone (mainly Yuna) thus even he knows and, to be honest, someone would have to be pretty dense not to piece it together at that point, I myself figured it out the first time I played it and genuinely got sad, though something in me said "But... but he's the main character...and him and Yuna are all happy... Maybe they can save him... just maybe..." and of course anyone who's beaten the game as well as myself know roughly how that hope turned out... Yunalesca was right, Hope is... comforting... ^^; In any case, sorry for a super long comment. I seriously wanted to thank you for your explanation as well as these videos altogether. I've been watching them all in sequence and have learned a lot (and to appreciate the TKO!) I'm currently doing a playthrough of the international version on the PS2 since I never got to fight the dark Aeons/Penance with the US version, so I've been appreciating many of your tactics and comments along the way. *bows* thank you again.

I was so astounded by the revelation that the Zanarkand we came from was not 1000 years in the past, but was in the present. And that not only that it was itself and all the people of it, one gigantic enormous summon. And the implications it had for Tidus. And how it gave lore behind the "villan" Yevons motivation, revenge against Bevelle for his fallen city. This story is just so good. And the twist set up so perfectly.

I wonder why we can't travel to Dream Zanarkand with the Airship. If it is indeed a physical location in Spira, that is. Unless Dream Zanarkand exists only in a sort of bubble dimension, separate to Spira, but overlapping in space. I don't know. I also wonder if Auron aged while being dead because he was living in Dream Zanarkand. Clearly people in Dream Zanarkand can age (just look at Tidus). So I wonder if by existing in that dream dimension, Auron was able to naturally(ish) age. Just my ponderings.

If we tried to travel to dream Zanarkand sin would attack and stop us. While Jecht has some control at times Sin also acts as it is directed to and therefore will stop at nothing to protect dream zanarkand, which exists out at sea by baaj temple and not in another dimension. Dream Zanarkand is an Aeon.

I could never understand Bahamut’s fayth‘ s role. I mean I understand Yu Yevon used the huge Gagazet fayth to summon Zanarkand, but the Bahamut’s fayth is a separate fayth and not used for summoning Zanarkand right. So why is it he has access to dream Zanarkand and able to communicate with Tidus?
@lavinder11 Жыл бұрын
Because the dream Zanarkand and the people are basically aeons. I’m guessing that all the fayth can feel each other like a network. That must be a perk of being an ancient spirit without a body, but a curse too since you can never rest

3:05 I see parallels with FFXII, or the other way around. In FXII, only the characters Vaan and Ashe can see Ashe's dead husband, Rasler, and only Tidus and Yuna can see the Bahamut Fayth. I wonder if Square realised this.

I always assumed Dream Zanarkand was _inside_ Sin. Like, the Sin armor not only protected Yu Yevon, but also the dream city too. This is because of how there's like part of a city on Sin's head, and how when you fly inside him you find part of the ruins of Zanarkand. But according to the wiki Yu Yevon, "sent the dream city out to sea." So you're probably right, it's an actual city somewhere that no one can find it.
@SP-rp4lk7 жыл бұрын
Connor Tyler always wondered about the buildings on his head. But yeah, definitely not inside Sin. Unless Sin can swallow himself, since we saw him attack DZ in the beginning of the game. :D

Connor Tyler there is no official "canon" explanation for it. It's left completely up to us to piece together from what we have. For the last part, EVERYONE is made of pyreflies. Not just the unsent. See the sending scene in Kilika, pyreflies leaving the human remains.

The story as how you tried explaining is very much like the movie The Matrix... the only difference is the matrix is still alive and well (at revolutions end) -- putting in context Yu Yevon the likes of The architect. When is it ever revealed that Dream Zanarkand is an actual physical location existing within the same world as Spira? I'm not doubting you, I just can't seem to remember that ever being said in the game.
@Dansg0810 жыл бұрын
Think of it this way, dream Zanarkand is effectively an Aeon (it sounds stupid, but that is the case, remember there are probably hundreds/thousands of survivors acting as fayth in Gagazet). It is summoned for eternity by Yu Yevon who is using the survivors as fayth. Dream Zanarkand is as "physically" real as the aeons are in the game. The reason it confuses is because dreams in the world of FFX are not really like our own. The dream of the fayth is materialised through the summoning that Yu Yevon is doing. The summoning is what makes the dream "real".
@KHmixerX10 жыл бұрын
dansg08 That makes sense. I always assumed Dream Zanarkand was an isolated location existing in some sort of alternate plane of existence. I never considered that it could be an actual location within the same world as Spira. The fact that it's always night in Dream Zanarkand always made me think it was somewhere else entirely as well. The only thing that really kills my theory and lend weight to yours is Jecht. How the hell would be have gotten to Spira if it wasn't an actual physical location on the planet? Lol
@Dansg0810 жыл бұрын
Well exactly. It's definitely a physical place that exists in the same plane/time as the present-time Spira in-game. According to the Scenario Ultimania guide (which is I believe one of the most in-depth pieces of literature available on all things FFX, and is in Japanese only), Dream Zanarkand is located near Baaj Temple on the map. Of course Sin could have dumped Tidus anywhere after the 1st encounter, but a nearby deserted place seems like a good start (it's also close to Besaid, Sin couldn't really dump him too close to Besaid since he'd probably attack the town too)...

I understand the concept of the fayth dreaming to create the summoning (such as when an aeon is summoned it becomes "real" and corporeal) but why is it that there are only certain individuals that were designated as fayth in the temples of spira? like, okay, you've got basically the whole top of mt. gagazet as one solid block of fayth that are helping to create yu yevons summoning of "dream zanarkand", but why is there only one single fayth (for example the little bahamut fayth kid)? like how did they get designated and singled out to become specific aeons and placed in the temples? I'm not sure if any of this makes sense but I tried to word it the best way I could lol

chris mcdonald they explain this in the game that Tidus isn't from 1000 years in the past. The fayth kid tells him he literally lived and was born in a dream of the fayth. Tidus only thought he was from the past because Wakka tells him in the beginning that Zanarkand has been in ruins for 1000 years. He assumed he time traveled because he doesn't know that his Zanarkand is not the same Zanarkand that is right by Mt. Gagazet. Dream Zanarkand is not physically and has never been where the Zanarkand Ruins are right now
@Chronosonder6 жыл бұрын
Love your commentary mate. One thing I have never understood is if there is a 10 year calm after defeating Sin, how does Jecht/Sin bring Auron to Zanarkand? Is Sin literally just reborn right after Braska and Jecht defeat it? If so, why is there a calm for 10 years? I think that is the only part that I haven't figured out.
@Dansg086 жыл бұрын
That's a really good question. I would assume that since Sin starts off as "small", before it can become the space whale that we all know and love it stays away and waits until it is strong enough to start attacking. During this time I assume it can still move and traverse between Spira and Dream Zanarkand. Also, the calm doesn't last 10 years. Remember when Chappu died. We don't know exactly when Sin returned for real once Braska died, but it wasn't 10 years for sure.
@JasmineJasmineJas6 жыл бұрын
@@Dansg08 maybe it's because there's no reason to attack. if sin only attacks when dream zanarkand is in danger, or when machinas get too advanced, maybe during that "calm" zanarkand wasn't in danger and there was no dangerous machina around

That doesnt make any sense: - Sin was created to protect Zankarkand. Sin attacks Zankarkand - Why Sin was created after the war? Couldn't they make it before and win?
@Alexis52246 жыл бұрын
Bowl Man Sin acts on instinct. Yu Yevon gave Sin some objectives. One was to protect dream Zanarkand. The second one was to destroy any machina or highly technological advanced city. Zanarkand was a very advanced city so Sin destroyed it. None can control it. Sin actually is a beast acting on instinct, Yu Yevon lives inside it through merging with the Aeon. Sin was created so that it would destroy Bavelle that back then was using highly advanced machina. Zanarkand was using summoners though they were powerless against the machina and so to win against Bavelle Yu Yevon, Zanarkand's leader, created Sin.
@aro79753 жыл бұрын
I wonder if the fact that someone from the dream world (jecht) that yu yevon created with the faiths became sin, that it would be the reason why all this mess is happening in the first place for yu yevons initial plan. Jecht is a dream created by yu yevon, that slipped through the cracks and ended up becoming sin. So that may mean tat also maester Seymour was also wrong in thinking that If he were to become sin, that he could make his own decisions freely. I don't know and probably forgot something obvious, but maybe the only reason that jecht can orchestrate a plan while actually being sin, is because he is a dream and the fayth had complete control and compatability with him when he merged to be the final Aeon, so its like the fayth had a hidden trump card to try and destroy yu yevons plan from within.. Maybe once, yu yevon had been aware of this plan, but as time went on he just became an automated process to never allow the city to be destroyed, while the fayth have to deal with the dream for eternity.

Ah I understand your question. Well considering Dream Zanarkand is a dream/summoning of Yu Yevon, him and the fayth of Zanarkand could easily reconstruct anything that was damaged or destroyed during the attack. So yes, it was being destroyed but it was probably "reconstructed" again soon after. This is never confirmed though, as the only time Dream Zanarkand is mentioned after the beginning of the game, is when Tidus speaks of it.
@murfeel11738 жыл бұрын
Either 1: Sin probably attacked because the Fayth want Dream Zanarkand to end. They're tired of maintaining it. Or 2: Sin probably didn't mean to attack, he was just trying to get close to Tidus, and the same way his toxin negatively affects the people of Spira, his very presence tears the fabric of space in Dream Zanarkand, so he has to keep his distance from everyone and everything.

@timvanderspek81087 жыл бұрын
Wow, I loved your explanation of the plot. You answered a long nagging question of mine: where the flip is Dream Zanarkand located? I never considered it might be an actual physical location, but it makes sense. It's a little strange no one ever discovered it; if Sin was acting as its watchman though, that could work I guess. There's one question that's never answered, and I can't work it; maybe you can answer it? Why are people like Mika, Auron, and Seymour(all unsent, basically) able to retain their human form and memories? We learn early on that the dead become fiends if they are unsent, so why didn't they turn into fiends when they died? The game never really expands on how unsent humans are different from fiends (besides the obvious stuff), so can anyone explain this to me?
@SP-rp4lk7 жыл бұрын
Tim Vanderspek Sin isn't its watchman, hell it attacks DZ in the beginning of the game. Sin's purpose is to eliminate anything that starts getting too technologically advanced, so they don't acquire the means to discover Dream Zanarkand. My guess is it's simply way out on the sea, and no one has the will or the means to go explore. The unsent are explained a bit in game, something about having a burning desire/something important to do to stay in Spira. What qualifies? /shrug. Believe it was also said that unsent turn into fiends when they start giving into the hatred/despair/other negative feelings. We see Seymour and Yunalesca certainly being very... fiendy in appearance.
@timvanderspek81087 жыл бұрын
Well, this is all conjecture - it's never stated in the game, after all. However, Sin acting as a watchman does make sense if you keep in mind one fact: Jecht's personality is able to influence Sin's actions, to a degree. So when he 'attacks' DZ, Jecht is trying to bring Tidus to Spira; however he can't keep Sin's violent tendencies in check. Throughout the whole game, Tidus encounters Sin at least six times; does anyone really think that was just coincidence? Jecht, as Sin, is drawn to Tidus, so it's no surprise that Sin overrides its watchman job to get to Tidus. But of course, as I said in the beginning this reasoning is never actually backed up by in-game information.

Hey Dansg08, If Tidus was from Dream Zanarkand, 1000 years after the destruction of the actual Zanarkand, then why the opening cut-scene at the beginning of the game where Sin destroyed Dream Zanarkand? Would Dream Zanarkand still be at least partially destroyed before the fayth resting?

So wait, Yu Yevon is protecting dream Zanarkand, and Jecht grew up there as well. Dream Zanarkand is a physical location in the world. In the opening scene, Sin destroys dream Zanarkand. So this brings up a couple questions. Why would Yu Yevon, who's summon is Sin, go and destroy dream Zanarkand? If he's not in control of the summon, and the summon being Jecht, is Jecht the one that goes and destroys dream Zanarkand as Sin? If so, how does Jecht even figure out where dream Zanarkand is if he himself thought there was no way back to the home he knows?

How did you came to a realisation that Dream Zanarkand is actually a real place that physically exists in Spira? Because I never really saw any real proof that it was in-game. If you say because Sin is guarding it: Well: I think maybe a part of it. Thanks to Jecht becoming Sin. But I do not believe Sin is guarding Zanarkand at all. But what exactly said that Sin is definitively guarding dream Zanarkand and makes it a physical place in Spira?

Daniël Fuhres Auron and Sin itself being able to go there is proof enough. I agree that Sin isn't guarding DZ. Sin is simply programmed to destroy technologically advanced cities/people. Inadvertently it helps keep DZ concealed, but also caused the attack at the beginning of the game.
