The clap between Tidus and Jecht at the 4:00 is the breaking point for me. I cry every time. Much like Tidus' story, my dad sometimes felt scary and distant in my childhood. Now as an adult I understand how much he sacrificed to support me. He really did do his best. Now in my 30's and he in his 60's, my dad is my best friend. That clap symbolizes so much in the relationship between fathers and sons and the "passing of the torch". Men aren't always the best at verbalizing their feelings, but those high-fives and pats-on-the-backs are our way of saying "I love you. I'm proud of you. You did good."
@RazorbackDevil11 ай бұрын
Spot on. You nailed it. That clap was the best part of the ending for me. It says everything that needed to be said between Tidus and Jecht. Kudos to you for recognizing your dad, I feel like too many people nowadays just let anger consume them.

Yeah, that single moment is so profoundly effective. It's a really beautiful example of how to pack a big dose of emotional content into something small and understated. The entire storyline is brilliant. Tidus as a character, from the very start of the game, was the positive guy that wanted to fight to live against all odds. Yuna on the contrary, was the one that was fighting knowing she would die, and she was ready to accept that fate. Therefore, at the end, it is incredibly well written the irony that their roles were reversed.

What gets me about this scene is that, for all of her life, Yuna has been raised and lived with a sole focus on other people. She is expected to die for others. She does everything with the expectation that she will literally sacrifice her life for the benefit of other people. She has never asked for anything for herself, really. And yet, with Titus' help, she is able to break the cycle of sacrifice. She has done something that saves herself, and all future summoners from needing to make this terrible sacrifice. And, for the first time, she asks for something. She asks for Tidus. And the answer is no.

Yuna doesn't see Tidus when he stand next her because she's looking at the sun. Rikku cope the situation trying to bargain that they'll see each other again. To tell you the truth, everything about Tidus' character was far more relatable and tragic to me than Yuna's character. The whole time he speaks to himself about going home....longing for a place he'll never return to or see again. And then later, seeing him confirm to himself he has to let it go all the while still keeping a positive outlook for Yuna is the quality of a true champ. Tidus is truly an exceptional character. Moreso today imo than I had ever thought of him over 20 years ago.

I think the saddest part is that at first, Tidus tries to stay strong and take his leave without any fuss --- but then Yuna runs to him, and unable to touch him she utters that simple "I love you." When he turns around, his expression suddenly becomes vulnerable and sad, as if he's realizing just how much he's losing by saying goodbye. But in the end, he's okay with it if it means not only saving the world, but letting Yuna have a chance to finally live her life.

I honestly have mixed feelings about FFX but this ending is one of the best endings I've ever seen. Narratively and thematically it's beautiful, and the direction in this final cutscene is perfect: Yuna sending Sin and the Aeons in slow motion, the musical symmetry between the start and ending of the game, how the theme of Zanarkand is intertwined throughout. That shot of Tidus against the sheer blue sky as pyreflies spring up around him is a defining image from the whole series.

I think it bears remembering that before showing how nihilistic he had become due to repeated abuse and trauma and loss, Yuna did actually have a crush on him. She admired him. Was genuinely interested in him. And he seemed to repay that, to the extent he was able. It always struck me that in their wedding scene, he doesn't look like an evil person getting off on being cruel to the hero, he looks genuinely hopeful in that little smile he gives her. And despite the inherent grossness of the situation, the kiss he gives her is soft. It's important to remember that Seymour was also a victim of and broken by the very cycle that Yuna was trying to destrpy. Not to mention his father's zealotry and bigotry and his mother's despair. That doesn't mean his actions are justified, just that it's important to remember everything isn't always so clear cut.

That clap between Jecht and Tidus, man ... That is a killer heart-strings moment. That and the "Never forget them" sequence are among the best video game moments of all time IMHO. Such a positive, accepting view of transience and death. Just beautiful. I first played this game when I was in 6th grade. And have played it many times through since then. It is among my favorites, and definitely the best FF IMHO in terms of emotional, character-driven story telling. Seriously, I cried the very first time in my career of 20 years playing video games while watching this ending. As an adult. But I guess it catches you the most when you played the whole game, when you witnessed all the moments of hope, anger and desperation, and you took every hopeful moment for a glimmer of hope for a good ending of Tidus, Yuna and the entire group... The scene at 2:49 is hard to take. Finally, at the end, Yuna tells Tidus these three short words, while he stands with his back to her, crying about the fact that just happened moments ago. I`m still getting goosebumps while watching this. The game reflects the finiteness of excistence perfectly in the form of Tidus and Auron as well. It just touches you and you`re starting to think a little different about the real life as well...

Out of curiosity why is everyone saying they're sad? I know at that moment it was probably saddening but the comments saying she was whistling but he'll never return confuses me if at the very end it shows him rising from the water. Even though it's ambiguous, one should still be able to tell that he must still be alive and coming back in some way.

***** The writing and the music was what went away after 10. These are two fundamental aspects of any game or story and without them a game simply feels... empty. No coincidence that Sakaguchi, the series creator, and Uematsu, the great composer, left shortly after FFX. When they left, there went the masterpiece of a series that was Final Fantasy. And all we were left with were cheap imitations, shadows and dust to remind us of better times and better works of art.

@nina991654 жыл бұрын
Mr 888 it’s a long story so I’ll give you the short version. I’m skipping over a lot with this. Tidus(the blonde guy) is seemingly sent a thousand years into the future. He and the other characters has to take Yuna on a journey to get a summon to defeat a monster called Sin who has been destroying the world for a thousand years. After he’s defeated he comes back to life 10 years after his defeat. Tidus found a way to beat Sin for good. It turns out that the summon they wanted to get was the cause for sin coming back all the time. The summon is made from the power of thousands of people who are in a coma-like state. They’ve existed for a long time. In this state of theirs, they’re dreaming. Once Sin is defeated they’ll wake up and everything they dreamed will disappear. Turns out Tidus was part of their dream but was forced out of it and he thought he was transported a thousand year into the future. Once Sin was defeated for good the sleeping people woke up and Tidus started to disappear from existence.

LOOK AT THEM FOR GOD'S SAKE!! PS: If you want not to cry, just stay focused on Wakka's face at the beginning. It helps. Just a little, but it helps.

@@MyWatchIsEnded This was a sad ending. I remember putting the joypad down after 78 playing hours and turning everything off. Then silence...silence. Sin was defeated and destroyed. Spira was free. The eternal calm descended. But at a terrible price. Yes, the cost was high. Tidus's story was over. Poor Yuna...separated forever from the one she loved. It was indeed the end. I went to bed. There was a calm that night. Then the sun rose that morning, and I realised it was time to move on...

@@evertonporter7887 I felt like I became part of these characters stories and significant to them so when they finally said goodbye it hit me hard and then the high five became cathartic to me as time went on. I only remember it now as the game that made me feel again in regards to wanting friends and a lover. It actually helped me sort through some issues I've been having emotionally so it was worth every second. Except that damned dragon on the airship. I wasn't high enough level and I had to restart my game all over lol.

I always burst in tears and emotions for Yuna and Tidus, the moment she fell while trying to hold him back always get my eyes wet, this is the most beautiful and also saddest love story in the world of videogames, I feel poor for the kids nowadays, they only know about guns and magics, not like the good old time of ffx and PS2 ;.;

Please excuse this rant. First, I enjoyed FF7. I liked it a lot. But I admit I am biased in favor of FFX, my rant is about my gripe with people downplaying FFX. Some people complained that FFX was too convoluted a story, and that's fine up until they start fanboying about FF7. Really? Sephiroth = Very well built-up character. Develops God complex and apex predator mindset after discovering his origins. Almost rightfully so considering his talent and dominance Sin = A force of nature essentially considered to be Heaven's wrath and judgment on humanity's mistakes. Tidus/Jecht Relationship > Cloud/Sephiroth While Cloud's relationship with Sephiroth goes from hero worship to vengeance/justice, Tidus is Jecht's son. Jecht is introduced from the very start. Remember the sports announcer that hero worships Jecht? Tidus is inevitably compared to Jecht his whole life, even in Spira. Tidus's story arc revolves around coming to terms with his father and becoming satisfied with himself. Tidus/Yuna Tidus is literally the dream that pushes Yuna forward. He is (literally) the dream that pushes Spira to new tomorrow, and his growth (and eventual death) marks the release from the cycle of death and of sin. The sins of those who came before: Jecht, ancient Bevelle, ancient Zanarkand, etc. Yuna is a half Al Bhed summoner from Bevelle. She is the amalgamation of change. Instead of a Zanarkand summoner, a Bevelle summoner. Instead of a complete rejection of machina or Al Bhed, she accepts it. The both of them are internally and externally the signs of change. The both of them are the world's strength. Tidus an outward strength born from within (dreams) and Yuna an inner strength born from the outside (her love and consideration of all people of Spira). FFX is far more dependent on emotions. It's somber and melancholic from start to finish. FF7 was actiony and less emotional in the beginning. It then builds a lot and very heavily as the game progresses.
