It was a really good and clean first episode of the LP. I dont think Ive actually ever seen a FFXIV LP where the streamer has prior knowledge of the game and they show people all the useful info especially about ARR 😊

Just an FYI, make sure to enable enemy list - it will make it way easier to cycle between enemies and put DOTs on them. It is also really nice if you will play things like a tank, because you would be able to see all casts by enemies and select the correct target if anything needs to be interrupted. I know this feature does not exist in other MMOs out there, but it is extremely helpful and in harder content even mandatory to have in an easy spot to notice the casts (if you ever decide to delve into savage/ultimate).

This will be a great perspective for you since you know a lot of what's coming but will have forgotten or not noticed a lot of the base world building from your first playthrough. This game rewards additional playthroughs and watches with strict adherence to its lore and lots of foreshadowing. Especially if you take the time to do the alliance and 8 man raid stories alongside the msq. The narrator for ARR is David Lodge, the voice of Louisoix from 1.0. Louisoix was the primary quest giver in 1.0.

Yeah, exactly! Even the playthrough 2 years ago I was hearing all about Endwalker referencing ARR events and feeling a bit bad becuase I'd already been forgetting them - this refresher will go well I think!

Mentioned on the other video, but my brother and I just started this game again. We made twinning characters; he went Roegadyn and I went Lalafell. Found out about the naming conventions for Lalafell and thought it was quite funny, so we decided to reference the Danny Devito movie Twins and make us look the same with matching names. It's been fun seeing people's reactions to my brother roleplaying a Roegadyn that thinks he's a Lalafell. You may end up seeing Boinga Bunga and Doinga Bunga since we are on the same server coincidentally.

I loved this first episode and I'm excited for what's to come! You may have touched on this in the video but will you be covering other side content outside of just extremes? Including things like triple triad (and the gold saucer as a whole), treasure maps, fishing and so on. Or is your plan to focus on the main story given that's already so long to get to Endwalker? I feel FFXIV's strength is how it has so many different games within itself so it would be interesting to see that showcased! Also, given your character's name (and what you talked about during your JW LP) can we expect to see a disco elysium LP at any point?

Yeah things will all be canvased! I'm not sure how deep I'll go on all of them though (runtime, I hope you understand). Disco is a scary project but one I'd love to do!

I just finished watching your now 2 yr old comparison video of GW2 v FF14 and am so excited to watch you get more into ff. Ngl I expected wp to just continue with Endwalker but tbh this is good refresher for the whole story. I barely remember anything, especially since I only experienced the story by watching let's plays and cutscenes.

another thing why 1.0 was so bad was the job system it wasn't connected to battle/crafts jobs yet so you could start the game as a lvl1 goldsmith or a lvl1 fisherman and you can probably guess those jobs aren't meant for combat but in the open each character had to do a mandatory battle tutorial and for the none battle classes that means you had to use your only damage skill "throw rock" to fight a tutorial trash mob that basically was a boss battle if you started the game by yourself. and if I'm not mistaken the starting job you picked was your main job ie story progression was lock to that job level which is why they lock you in to only picking the battle jobs at the start of the game.

so because if how the job system works Range DPS get the short end of the straw as most of the other Range DPS are locked behind the Main Story Quest of the first expunction kind of like white mage your mostly stuck with that job until lvl60-80 at lest for bard healer gets a second job with summoner at lvl30 so something to be a bit mindful if you like the play style of archer/bard its going to be the only available job like that for a long time.

god played a part in the 1.0 each one would give you a element resistance its its type and a weakness to its counter and a minor boon to the rest. but they removed element damage/ resistance for just physical or magical damage types so doing fire to a fire elemental will still do just as much damage a using blizzard or a water move on them.

There isn't just 20 random names; that's the total character limit. There's a limit for first name, a limit for last name, and a limit for it all together.

I don't know if you said it in the stream, but assuming this stream takes a while, and if you're starting from scratch it will, will you pause to do streams of GW2 when it gets an update then jump back to this? Or try to alternate between them? Not that I mind either way. I resubbed to FF cause of this to remind myself how old I am cause I haven't played this game for almost a decade and I have ZERO idea what's going on plot wise. My MSQ was the end of Heavensward and I was like... okay, stuff if happening. WP streaming this would be helpful. lol

@@WoodenPotatoes Appreciate it. And for what it’s worth, I only call it out since the ad frequency on this vid is materially higher than what I’ve seen on any of your content up to this point. I’m about an hour in to this video and have been presented with at least 6 ads… maybe more. Usually I’d get maybe 2 by now. It could easily be something YT is coming over the top & doing (which would make sense given their recent track-record of pushing ads into everything, including paused videos…) But honestly, suffering through a few more ads per capita of WP content is a burden I can bear. Just kinda sobers you up from being immersed in the content 🤷‍♂️

At 2:14:40 there is little skip in the video. Not sure how much content is missing as I was not watching LIVE. Any idea what happened there? maybe you know what it is. I was thinking of installing this game and giving it a go myself alongside you but bad timing for me right now. I may give it a shot in a week or so if I have more free time. Also just noticed it is 140GB which is going to take up a huge chunk of my drive. It's around twice the size of my GW2 installation (although that is not updated for maybe a year now) which put me off installing it for now.
