during the 90's and 2000s at our state fair they had a mobile Arcade Ally, and I saw a Strider machine. However I did pass on playing it because they had a Splatterhouse cab..... other than this fair I never saw them again in the wild. BTW after that one time seeing the Strider Cab they replaced it with a NBA Jam cab the Splatterhouse cab remained until the mid 2000s.

one the reason why they opted to not have all of there machine have light up marque to keep cost down but I don't know it true or not. the ones that have light up marque are Golden Tee, Limited numbered limited edition Marvel's super heros, and the upcoming Atari Star Wars coming in November, and they're all over 400 buck plus come with a riser. Plus I do believe the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle one will likely have a light up Marque as well I'm not sure. also a couple of the upcoming new machine will have speaker above the monitor.
@AvengerII5 жыл бұрын
These things are mass market -- they're not gonna have all the bells and whistles. Frankly, light-up marquees and button lights aren't worth it unless you're playing in pitch black. The controller parts are what I really don't like even less than the so-so speakers. They're cheap knock-offs and not as durable as the parts they make for Japanese arcades and quality joystick controllers sold for the PlayStation and XBox consoles. Those cab controllers I would swap out for quality parts if I planned on keeping this cabinet for myself. The only problem is the faceplate for these cabs is made of thick MDF. That makes mounting many alternate arcade parts iffy. If you were going to install Japanese parts (MODERN design), you'd be better off rewiring an old joystick controller made for a game system/PC or getting a custom faceplate made of metal to drop in as a replacement. That ends up being a lot of money to customize these things. Still, it might be cheaper to customize a mass-market cab like this than trying to build something from scratch unless you have cheap parts (I've got spare controller parts lying around from a few years back), a free obsolete computer, and access to a woodshop that would let you make parts with their tools for a nominal ($40 or less which would be cheaper than trying to buy all your own tools!).

@@AvengerII keep in mind that arcade 1 up first wave of machine last year had a few hits and misses. they manage to make some improvement with the new wave of machines. arcade fans do like the light up marque for nostalgia purposes. they product wasn't meant for purist
@AvengerII5 жыл бұрын
@@chrisstory563 I'm not THAT much of a purist myself. I don't care about the marquee lightup. I'd be more upset about the controls and whether such a cheap computer like the Raspberry Pi does emulate that well. Apparently, it works well enough for 8-bit and 16-bit emulation but 32-bit emulation is out of its range. It's fine enough for most games through about 1994, prior to poly-pushers being the thing. It's not going to run the Sega Model 1/2/3 games or PS1/PS2 games well like some people hope.
@JB-ym4up5 жыл бұрын
They do make full size 4 player boxes with all the fancy stuff and 3k games for about $3k+. On a per game basis it's cheaper, and up to 4 players (one I looked at had 6 buttons 2 joysticks and a track ball per player) would be more fun. Dollars per hour of entertainment, the $150 unit is probably better. Guess I'll need to be saving up if I want that authentic 4 player gauntlet experience.
@chrisstory5635 жыл бұрын
@@JB-ym4up there are some downsides to that. many of the so called machines may contain pirated and imperfect games that doesn't have all the roms and stupid clones. also run a risk of having illagel XXX games from Japan. there are companies that put out full size muilt-game machines like dream arcade but they run on windows plus they charge you more money for extra stuff like a spinner, wifi adapter, and etc. At games is putting a cheaper version of those type of machines but at game don't have a very good track record as of lately.

We're really living through an era where these retro-machines are big. This won't last forever... Maybe a few more years (2-3 tops I'd give it) but it's big now probably because of the retro-nostalgia. You all DO realize these are NOT true reproductions of the classic arcade hardware? They're using cheaper microprocessor components called Raspberry Pi which run emulator programs like MAME. It's literally a sub-$150 minicomputer with all the modern parts (hard drive, USB ports, etc.). It's alright and will emulate through Capcom's CPS-2 system fine but it's not a good emulator for PS1 games or later. I seriously doubt and am sure it won't run the Sega Model 1 or 2 games smoothly. VERY sure it's hopeless for Model 3 as well. It just doesn't have the horsepower to push polys fast enough. The arcade controls themselves are a mixed bag. A lot of people don't like ball handles on joysticks. I prefer them myself but I NEVER liked the bat handle joysticks they used in the US arcades and HATED the Happ/iL pushbuttons. WAY too big for more hands, they had poor, unergonomic button layout and I just prefer the Japanese style ball handles and pushbuttons since I've had the chance to try them about 12 years ago. There's no comparison in the sensitivity between Japanese parts and Happ/iL. Happ/iL IS easier to get in the US now... all the usual computer parts stores are carrying them and sometimes even Wal Mart or an out of the way place has them. The iL brand is better... It's the same style/design as Happ but it's made in Italy and they have tighter quality control. Happ is made in China and it's very inconsistent. To be fair, sometimes even the runs of Japanese parts have quality control issues, too, but they're generally more consistent than Happ is. The only way I'll get one of these cabs is if they get a Darkstalkers collection. I might spring for that but I would probably upgrade the controls. The knock-offs of the Japanese controls aren't as good as the real Japanese arcade parts. It's not hard to rewire these things and there are plenty of guides to these things online including video tutorials.
