I had an instructor who got killed doing a touch and go at an ALA many years ago. Terrific guy with a very professional attitude who made a few small mistakes. Aviation can be very unforgiving.

I operated a Pac750 out of this strip for about a month a few yrs ago. Not an easy strip for a trainee pilot, was preferred to land uphill and takeoff downhill unless the wind was more than about 10kts. Even with a full length uphill takeoff a left turn on takeoff was prudent due to the trees and hill on departure.

I'm positively flabbergasted by the sheer breadth of this investigation by the ATSB. I fly in Western Europe and although excellent, our NTSBs wouldn't nearly put so much effort in a general aviation accident investigation. That's good use of taxpayers money, well done Aussies !
