This is even cuter when you look at both sides of it. He left her to get a new diary for her and likes her just the way she is. His wife cheated on him, but she chases him down in the snow in her undies and admits she made a mistake and likes him for who he is too. It's like they both have never had a love like what the other person gives them :)

Bota Box That’s why this is my favorite romantic comedy. I don’t care if it’s not realistic. I want someone to love me the way I am like Mark Darcy and Bridget Jones love each other the way they are. Unconditional love. I got it from my parents but haven’t met a guy yet who felt that way about me. About ready to give up on love. 39 years old I have only kept a few romantic comedies. They seem to be getting crazier and crazier. I would never run out in my underwear. Lol.

The role was actually written with him in mind. Bridget Jones' Diary was based off Austen's Pride and Prejudice. While Helen Fielding was writing Bridget Jones's Diary, Colin Firth was playing Mr Darcy on the BBC miniseries version of Pride and Prejudice. Therefore, the character of Mr Darcy in Bridget Jones was inspired by Firth's portrayal of Mr Darcy in the BBC Pride and Prejudice miniseries that Fielding watched while she wrote the book. So he kinda was always meant to play Mr Darcy on Bridget Jones.
