I ran in Rotterdam in 2010. The course is really flat and I had a feeling that the whole city was along the course cheering on that Sunday. It's a great event and a wonderful atmosphere that they have there. Good luck!

Sage, you're the best. I love how even though you're a superstar runner, you're so easy to relate to as a person and a runner. You're a great vegan role model. Also I love how you always convert your distances to km and your temperatures to C for us non-American viewers. Good luck tomorrow!!

You sound a bit down? I hope not.. regardless of your performance on Sunday, know that there will be runners in the race that are doing better than they would otherwise have done without your advice and inspiration (I will be one of them - you are a key influencer in my decision to go plant based and I am a better runner on that diet than I was while eating meat). See you Saturday!!!!!

Great to see you running in Rotterdam! After I decided to do my first marathon (Rotterdam) 3 years ago I found yourchannel and have been following you ever since. Your channel definately gave me motivation and lessons to achieve and improve my goals. Hope you will achieve yours. Good luck!

Your thoughts on thinking realistically, nervousness, confidence, etc tend to mirror my own prior to races. I'm like 40 min slower than you in marathon, but I think we all share in the struggle to push at the edges of our abilities. I appreciate your willingness to share your training and mindset from beginning to post mortem on races. It helps us all relate to each other regardless of skill level. I have a marathon this Sunday and I am trying to maybe run under 3hrs. Like your OTQ time, it will be tough and probably take a perfect day...but I am going to try just like you. All you can ask of yourself is your best effort on the day, after that the rest is out of your control. Good luck man! I will be rooting for you to have a great day!

23 of 14549, 2h23, not bad at all. I ran the Manchester marathon on the same day. 4h31, my worst time in 3 years. But my daughter got a PB at 4:11 for her 2nd marathon ever. So happy day. Keep inspiring us, whether we are running marathons on 2h20 or 5h.

When I was a kid... I didn’t have an angry mad bone in my body... my soccer coach used to yell at me during games to get mad... at the end of the year he gave me the get mad award.... I’ve carried that for 30 years... I still don’t get mad very often... but when I do... I run .... fast.... fast as I can... if you wanna borrow my get mad award... you can! You can 2:18... if I can run a 7 minute mile at 45 years old after close to 20 years of Marlboro lights... you can run whatever you want... close your eyes... relax and ignore too many numbers.... just run.... run like the wind! And where them fancy carbon rockets.... you have the tools... crush it like you can!

It seems like with the very elite top 5 runners, physics wins out the most. Kipchoge and Farah are naturally amazing runners for due to their hard work, determination, body structure, focus, training, etc.... But, Kipchoge weighs in at 123 lbs and is 5'6" tall. Farah is 128 lbs and 5'9". One could make the argument that Farah does exceptionally well in the 10000 meter due to being a little taller, and thus having a longer stride length. It's a back and forth battle for sure. That's besides the point. The lighter runner coupled with exceptional physical ability is the recipe for a sub 2:05 time. There's less pounding on the bones and joints during the long term. I've always wanted to see Kipchoge run a trail race. I think he would do very well, but I just wonder how well.

Hey Sage, because of your past, your experience and recently running so close to 2:18, I believe you can realistically run an OTQ. That could be this weekend or some other time. But honestly what is the point? As you said, you are a Trail Ultra Runner. I passionately would love to see you exclusively focus and progress on the Ultra Trail World Tour. Or even just iconic races such as Western States (which you could win) and even Hardrock.

You are awesome Sage, but you are a bit hard on yourself. Sounds like you feel you have something to prove, and need to defend yourself against keyboard warriors that have the answer to everything. You are just as awesome if you run a 2:25 as if you run a 2:18, most of the people who "know what you do wrong" will probably struggle to get under 3 hours downhill with the wind in their back, or even complete a marathon. You are a source of inspiration and knowledge for so many people! I wish you could find peace in knowing that, and not feel the need to defend yourself. I'm rooting for you, I hope the stars align to give you a push so you run the most confidence boosting Marathon of your life!
