Yamaha Pacifcas on initial release (91/92), had, the high-end Japanese Warmoth neck models and Japanese Mike Stern Signature model (with a maple fingerboard). And later Killer 1221 models. So Yamaha are just, returning to this, with the new 2024 Yamaha Pacifcas.

@@trevorD1156 I think that's a bit harsh - it's obvious once you know but I've never seen Yamaha explain it themselves. Was just gna say that lmao. Even for their other models like the revstar professional, the dual humbucker model is RSP20 (2 humbuckers, 0 single coils) while the p90 version is RSP02T (0 humbuckers, 2 single coils which are p90s). The T in the RSP02T stands for the tailpiece that's only available on the p90 models

They look good but there is such a saturated market now that I’d be hesitant to drop £2k or even £1100 when they do essentially the same thing as others; certainly no better. Hard to see an advantage of these over Schecter Nick Johnston. And for 2k I’d rather save some extra and get an S style from a boutique builder. I love Yamaha but for me this is a pass.

And here's me, still with the Pacifica 812 and 921 I've had since the 90's completely unaware they were apparently not guitars for 'pros' until I read the title of the vid, haha. I'll give back all money for the tours and sessions I've done with them then! Seriously though, about time the Pacifica got some high end love again, if they're anything near as good as the original high end ones they'll be amazing. Must admit I hate the new pickguard design though, that weird straight cutoff is an odd choice.

@@Mahdcat what shocked me was how nice the neck feels, I don't typically like gloss necks but it felt so good and easy to play. I played a few $2000+ vintage spec fenders with nitro gloss necks which is supposed to be better but they were so sticky it was unplayable for me. I thought maybe they needed to be cleaned so I took it over to the tech in the store but it just made it stickier and the tech said the only way to make it not sticky is sandpaper. I've played PRS and Gibson with gloss nitro necks and they weren't bad at all. Crazy that fender feels okay putting out guitars like that.

These are beautiful guitars....but, Yamaha missed a huge point with these prices. The whole selling point behind the original "entry" Pacificas were that (short of a horrific selection of colors), those guitars could VERY easily be play by pro's. So, I get what Andertons is saying about what Yamaha has done with this series, but I don't see many people choosing this brand in this price point. That said, Yamaha makes brilliant gear at any price. Their R&D dept, and leadership, should be in the medical industry....we'd be cancer-free by now!

I've always appreciated how Pacifica's bridge humbuckers were on a ring instead of on the pickguard. I think that adds some body to the sound, and direct-mount continues in that direction. So its great seeing that here! Love direct-mounted bridge pickups! Plus a satin finish neck with stainless steel frets, even better! Not so sure about the pickups though but that's subjective. Me personally, I would swap the pickups ...but I usually do that to any guitar lol.

On Yamaha Pacifica the lower horn is further away from your fingers than in strat, so you don't bang your knuckles all the time to the lower cutaway like you do on strat, especially if you have bigger hands. And that has always been reason i have loved Pacificas, and of course PAC 904(?? can't remember right now) that had the perfect split hum bucker, because it was made using two actual single coils instead of split hum bucker. That was clever.

It's funny that a musical instrument shop like 'Andertons Music Co' dœsn't know the history of brands and models. The Yamaha Pacifica line when initially released in 1990 WERE high-end guitars for pros! They endorsed guitar virtuoso Michael Lee Firkins (and later on Mike Stern) and made the Pacifica guitars that were made in the USA with a price range from 699$ to 2599$! They had 3 tremolo bridge options: vintage (like Fender classic tremolo bridges), Floyd Rose, and Wilkinson. The fingerboard at that time was already compound radius, and the guitars came with Seymour Duncan pickups and/or Di Marzio pickups. The neck joint was a patented one (a bit like the Washburn N4 Nuno Bettencourt signature that came out around the same year) and there were absolutely no heel (!!!) going in the way of the left hand to access the high notes on the fingerboard that could have up to 24 frets depending on the models. So the title of this video makes me smile a bit...

@ChidOki
@ChidOki 8 ай бұрын
I’m going to push back on the “decoy” thing because there is definitely more assurance of quality in the Japanese made Pros…so it’s not straight marketing. The problem is, the differences are just not quite worth $850 of price difference imo. Assuming $150-200 of that is the premium hard case instead of gig bag, and maybe $100 worth of money or time potentially needing to set-up a made in Indonesia one (I’ve got a professional made in Japan Revstar and it is in perfect-to-play condition and intonation right away, and you get a hand signed note from the luthier who finishes, sets up, and inspects your instrument. I’ve heard many people say made in Indonesia are super solid but higher chance of needing to make some tweaks out of the box), the rest of the specs like you said between Standard Plus and Professional are so the same that the only difference left is the neck finish and then the Initial Response Acceleration thing that most people are skeptical of. I think I personally hear a small difference but it’s not “better”, just different. It’s definitely not enough to explain the other $500-600 of price difference for most consumers. I believe in the meticulous price and quality care Japanese companies put into their work, Yamaha just seems to overestimate how much their consumer base is willing to pay for that though. They did too good of a job setting up their Indonesia manufacturing 😂

Can't help but think that Yamaha would be better ,from a business point,to regain their lead in the £300 price point. I.e rolled fretboard, tusq nut . I've played better Jets and Ibanez than 112V

If it's anywhere near the quality of the MIJ earliest Pacificas (Rich Lasner designed 900 series and up), then they will have brought back the original concept of Pacificas from the L.A. custom shop (called the Yamaha guitar development in California). Those were meant at the time to cater to the pros and compete with the best on the market. They were pricey too. A 1412 in 1990 was around $2,000.(in today's money $4,000 or $5,000)

I have a Yamaha Revstar standard 2023 modesty priced at, I think £649.. but £1000 For a Pacifica ?. I brought a Cort Raw edition great guitar. The same type of spec for half the price.. Sorry yamaha to expensive. Needs to be more competitive on the price as i find the £500 to £1000 price point to be most competitive these days. Great Review as always tho guys 😊

How can these two not know that "12" at the end of the model number refers to the pups configuration. 12: one Humbucker and two singles. 20: two Humbuckers. 02: two singles (typically P90s) and the rare and fabulous mij 904: four singles with the bridge pup being two separate single coils arranged like a Humbucker but different.

Well, there's those now discontinued Yamaha SG models. SG 1802;1820. Those were the best in my opinion. However, Yamaha's new Pacifica range is raising eyebrows for sure!

They sound great, but £2000 for the Pro is a bit much.... I'd much rather buy a used '80s/'90s MIJ guitar and have it refretted if needed, for a third of the price.

@@BkBk-gy6vr because the resale value is terrible on yamaha. 50% it's original value as soon as you step out the door. Fender hold their value much better.

I think Yamaha are one of the most underrated guitar brands out there. You'd be hard pressed to find another manufacturer that offers you more value for your money. The quality of their guitars and their attention to detail are excellent. I own two Pacificas, a 112 and a 311, and I love playing them. Though I do dream of one day owning a "Made in Japan" model! But first, I need to get a little better on the guitar, and I need to save up enough money.

"come on daddy" is it in Pete's contract to make every video slightly wierd? I love the sound of those pickups though, very crisp.
