I know the engineers work it out, but my primitive mind looks at anything that can catch the wind, and I think about the weather in Thailand, and I think "It'll never take that!" Every stadium, every gym, every mechanics' workshop, I look and I think that force when the wind hits that must lift the foundations. I lived in a tower block in Glasgow. The top could move about a foot in the wind.

I totally get why they want the roof up first. I have a lot of respect for these hardened Issan workers. Making that kind of work in the scorching heat is no joke. That is something that is not easy to understand from a video, it must be experienced.

fantastic altho i do have some concerns.... the concrete pillars need to be braced from one bottom corner to the opposite top corner (diagonally) on everyside to brace it together to stop it from swaying in high winds and possibly clapsing. but it does look like its going to be a magnificent building. keep up the good work damo.... 👍👍👍
@lifeinruralthailand2 жыл бұрын
Be reet, every building in this village has been built this way for the past 50+ years and most of Thailand I suspect - no problems 👍
@remnant8882 жыл бұрын
It does seem like the perpendicular brick wall will act as the bracing required to prevent swaying of the building both ways... No real danger here though swaying is real in some bamboo hits that's not braced... 😁😁
@Brettly012 жыл бұрын
so the walls inbetween the concrete posts will be made from brick and not bamboo.?

One observation that I have, having poured quite a lot of concrete in my time is the concrete those guys are mixing has a very high 'Slump'. I guess there must be a good reason for this in Thailand?
@philiphildebrand14192 жыл бұрын
Civil Engineering Consultant Here: It's not good to pour concrete directly on grass and topsoil since this can frequently lead to cracks. If it's not too late, have them strip off all the organic material like grass etc and about 10 cm or more of soil and build it back up with a couple of layers of well compacted non-organic clean fill.
