A quick explanation on the queue skipping: when one line gets too long, people automatically make a second line. This is to allow your car to have some engine and, most importantly, brake cooling after the lap to avoid overheating, damaging, or even catching fire. A second queue forms. On busy nights/days, you'd see 3rd and EVEN 4th queue! It's also how the highway etiquette applies by using the so-called "zipper" from 2 lanes into 1. It's an exceptional situation that has a peculiar reasoning. There is no real right or wrong here. When I know how busy it is, I'd back off sooner to allow some queueing. If I'm surprised by the queue that ends at almost the Gantry when I'm coming in hot after the last corner, then there is no way I'm going to hit the brakes and just let the car boil there for 30+ min.

Thank you for explaining. I was actually wondering about it. Here in the USA, other drivers would easily get triggered by the perception of people cutting in front. Seemed that's what that BMW driver felt in this video. But hopefully most drivers at the ring are mellow and understand this is how things work at the track.

YES YES YES MORE AMERICAN CARS PLEASE! It's so great to see mustangs, camaro, and chargers, and challengers on track. I know it's very rare but seeing how those cars perform on such an iconic track compared to in video games is amazing and I wish more people would bring more high-end American performance cars to this track and make great videos like this!

In Poland they even had to update the traffic rules to mandatory obey zipper/lanes joining signs and mandatory let cars from the left lane join the right lane (each car has to let 1 car through). And still everyone "politely" stays in right lane and sometimes even block the ones who follow the rules and drive on the left lane.
@JerainJezza
@JerainJezza Жыл бұрын
It should be mandotary to make 3 lanes, 1 left to stay on track and with the two right lanes you zip in like on the road. When everyone stays only right on a busy day, the line will reach the last corner and that would be very dangerous.

The SS 1LE has been an SCCA darling and an absolute performance bargain for quite some time now in the US. The motor is bombproof and the ride (when not ringing its neck on-track) is very, very good. Easily could be used as a daily between track events, and for very little money in consumables. Given his proximity to Laguna Seca he'll have HWY 1 from Monterey to SLO to blast when not doing track days, which isn't a bad life for a car lover.

I had a 2018 ZL1 and just sold it last fall and bought a brand new 22 SS 1LE.. The drag pulls on the highway were fun but you just can't wring the car on track without blowing off the tires in every corner exit and gear change. I enjoy the N/A power with a manual to autocross and have track days with.. Its so much better than the mustang and challenger its not even close..

@Clutch_Kick187
@Clutch_Kick187 Жыл бұрын
@@xtnuser5338 I get your argument but it was not only the power.. there were heat issues as well.. Not sure where you are located but here in Midwest USA.. the tracks are much slower, and don't have these high speed tracks like the ring.. Its not even close.. So my average lap times are the same, best laps better.. And the ZL1 would get hot after 3-4 laps, and the ss 1le can do 40min session without a sweat.. The tires also last much longer, as I went through 5 sets of rears in one year in the ZL1 and made it all of 22 with 2 sets on one less track day with much more time on track.. I also cooked the brake rotors and pads in one year on the ZL1.. Its not just about having power, its consumables and heat..

@@Clutch_Kick187 Sure I understand. I was a track rat in my Exige, and I continue to be a track rat in my GT3RS down here in Texas, so I know what you're talking about. I'm kind of surprised you got a whole year out of the pads honestly. How many sessions, or weekends if you prefer? The Exige was REALLY good on consumables, since it's low powered and light weight, but getting six or seven full two-day weekends on the pads was about it. The guys I know with Camaros and Mustangs and the like are usually lucky to get half of that.

@@xtnuser5338 The factory pads made it 3 track days.. and were completely fucked.. I did some research and found the magic sauce.. Raybestos ST-43.. They literally lasted 13 track days.. I tried Carbotech, Powerstop, and Hawk on the ZL1 and all of them were junk.. I heard from a Corvette Zo6 guy about the Raybestos ST-43 and they are the exact same pads for the 1LE and are amazing for longevity and literally pull your eyeballs out the front of your head without being an on off switch..

This is hands down the best performance bargain car in America right now. I had a BMW 340i and a friend had a M240i which competed in the same race class as the SS 1LE and we were being totally dominated. Thanks for the video Misha :) I drove a 2012 Camaro SS on a road trip in USA. Didn't really want it to begin with, but the other American car I had ordered was not available, even though I had booked a specified vehicle.. Took the brand new SS with 400 miles on the odometer and added 5500 in a couple of weeks. It was such a great car

I have an SS 1LE that I track 4-5 times a year. It's my 2nd car. I'm curious why you sometimes wish you stuck with an SS vs. ZL1? I'm constanly looking at ZL1 1LE's because they're so damn cool but hesitant to buy one because I frigging love my SS.

@@jackb55391 The SS is just far more of a track car imo. Perfect horsepower numbers and everything you can want out of a track car. I feel that 650 is too much at times. Sure it’s extremely fun to stomp on the gas pedal and hear the supercharger scream, however on the track I have to manage the throttle so much whereas in the SS I could just be flat the whole time. ZLE takes a lot of patience and getting used to whereas the SS is a big miata. Plus the SS 1LE wheels are far better than the ZLE’s 😂

@@aaron_1le456 good to know, thanks! I need to manage throttle on exit with my car but can see how you would need to be way more cautious. It's more of I wonder what 650 would be like vs. actually wanting more power lol. I remember when i was a test-driver, i left germany to go to Detroit to test drive this very model from the video for GM for a couple of months, and right before i left i did some test-driving on the beemer M4. Got to Detroit, got inside an SS first day at work and immediately thought to myself "wow, this is way better than the M4". Camaros are as underrated as a track-car just as much as M4s are overrated...Camaros are awesome. After those couple of months in Detroit testing this car i really grew to become a little bit of a fan of it...

I feel like these cars are SO close to amazing. I almost bought an SS, found one for an AMAZING deal when I was buying my last car. ($20k CAD). My only problem with it was how BIG it felt. I'm a short dude, barely 5'5, and the visibility on the roads, in parking lots in the Camaro etc just felt TERRIBLE. Like a boat. The windows, dash and hood just felt so high around me. I'm sure on backroads and on track it shrinks around you, but considering I was buying a daily, and I'd be spending 80% of time in traffic, parking lots etc, I just couldn't get over that. Mustangs are MUCH better that way, but unfortunately, they seem to hold their value much better and as such, couldn't find a nice Mustang GT for anywhere near the same price. So I ended up going for a Civic Si, which is a funny car to cross shop with Camaros and Mustangs, but I actually am super happy with it. I never regret my decision, but seeing this video DOES make me wonder what if, because this seems like a helluva good time on track

American cars generally are over-engineered from a cooling standpoint. Given that a good portion of the country is way hotter in summer than almost anywhere in Europe. 45C isn't uncommon in large portions of the southwest, and it can hit 40C even in the northeast. We do love our AC too, and it better work when it's 45 out. :)

Great to see! I lived in Germany for a 3 years until 2021, and had a F87 BMW M2. I was able to clock a 7:52 BTG time, and according to my Garmin Catalyst I was on pace for a 7:47 lap barring traffic and mistakes. I got back to the States in 2021, and bought a 2018 Camaro 1SS 1LE. This thing is a level higher than the M2. It handles a lot like the M2 did, but it has a stiffer chassis, more mechanical grip, and the eLSD is perfectly tuned. Based on my experience with the M2, I think I could do something like 7:43 on the Ring. In professional hands I am certain the car can do 7:25 or so. Enjoy the Camaro, and I hope you have a chance to do more track days on the Ring. I have no doubt with more time and driver mod you can get into the 7:4x range. Good luck!
