I'm enjoying your honesty in these early videos as inexperienced sailors. It's nice to see you showing people that you don't have to be an expert to just get started and learn. Ego-free humility is an admirable trait!

Make your own lazy Jacks. Very easy to do the only rigging non-sail related just rope guides for for lowering main sale. There all called inlets from the larger body of water to smaller body water (lakes ocean or bays) just remember you can go out a inlet but can't go in a outlet .

Before I visited Nassau, I heard the hotdogs were like $10! So,when I finally went (on a cruise), I went straight to Hard Rock, got my shot glass (for my massive collection) and went straight back to the ship! In other words, I still don't know anything about the Bahamas. I do like Thommy Bahama btw.
@BeauAndBrandy5 жыл бұрын
We have done the SAME THING on a cruise to Nassau (actually we didn't even get off the boat). We have to say though, Nassau doesn't even hold a tiny flame to the rest of the bahamas, its night and day!

I can't think of how you can add lazy jacks and still use that god-awful rotating, furling boom. My recommendation is to ignore the rolling boom and put in lazy jacks with slab reefing. You can add a roller furler for the head sail later (hanked on sails aren't that bad). The modern mainsail furling system either furl into the mast or into the boom. The difference with the modern boom furling is that there is a fixed outer shell (to attach lazy jacks, boom vang, etc.). Maybe you could fabricate some sort of shell around your boom, but you are better off just locking it in place and ignoring the rolling "feature." You might also look in consignment shops for a replacement boom (there should be some left from the last hurricane).
@BeauAndBrandy6 жыл бұрын
That’s the dilemma...that dang furling boom. We need to add slab reef in and then we can do the lazy jacks!
@CheersWarren6 жыл бұрын
You could add clip on lazy jacks and remove when roller reefing. We had a really long bungee cord with shorts bungee attached every 18” that we strung along the boom to quickly tie it up . Warren
@BeauAndBrandy6 жыл бұрын
@@CheersWarren that's a great idea! we were just talking about something along this line, but way more complicated! thanks warren!! always appreciate your advice!
@CheersWarren6 жыл бұрын
Sailing Saoirse Hi actually if I remember right I had one end of the short bungees tied to the long one and then the hook end could just be hooked anywhere along the long bungee. 👍cheers Warren

@peterfields12096 жыл бұрын
Even with lazy jacks, when I am flaking the mainsail, I pull on the leech at each fold to get a nice flat sail on the boom. Without lazy jacks, you can tie the sail to the boom while flaking (any 12-18 inch lengths of smaller line will do) at around 3 foot intervals to keep the sail tamed and making flaking easier.
